Fantasy Football Scout Cup – Semi-Final Draw

Our Fantasy Premier League Cup has reached its penultimate stage as we reveal the four managers to make it through to the semi-finals.

The draw has been kind to the two highest-ranked remaining competitors, who swerve each other in the last four, which takes place across Double Gameweek 37.

With a rank of 1,880 Batmaniac is the top placed manager in the competition, after seeing off BroTown Tindersticks in the quarter-finals. This high-flyer has booked himself a semi-final clash with Boxing Can Girouds, whose 11,947-placed team overcame dmcqt in the previous round.

Both these semi-finalists have only their Triple Captain chip left to play, having used the Wildcard in Gameweek 32.

However, underdog Boxing Can Girouds may have the advantage. He has already spent a transfer hit in Gameweek 36 to bring in Man City pair Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus to join the likes of Harry Kane and Paul Pogba.

Meanwhile, Batmaniac used just one transfer to bring in Spurs full-back Ben Davies last time out and is currently without any of Pep Guardiola’s troops. At least one four-point hit seems likely if he is to make the most of City’s favourable home games against Huddersfield and Brighton.

The other semi-final encounter sees 5,861 placed PetesBlair square up to the round’s lowest ranked manager 2EyedTurk, who is in 25,071 spot.

As with the other semi-finalists this pair only have their Triple Captain chip to call on.

The lower ranked manager also has the advantage in this tie in terms of Man City assets. 2EyedTurk defeated UTK in the quarter-finals with an impressive score of 66 thanks to his three City stars, Jesus, Sterling and Leroy Sane, who between them netted 28 points.

PetesBlair meanwhile only had Jesus among City assets in his side in a quarter-final victory over Mr Cookie. It seems likely that Sterling will be one of his key targets, with misfiring Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez potentially getting the boot on the back of five straight blanks.

The full quarter final results can be found here, while the semi final draw can be found here.

Kane has looked slow and lacking confidence ever since he claimed Eriksen's goal. City score for fun and Spurs don't.

2 hits on paper atm. Got Klavan, VvD and Zaha. Thinking about getting Tadic, Smalling and Cedric in for those.
Could get Arne instead of Tadic or could even keep Zaha and limit it to 1 hit.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

If you were top of the world

On last night's Scoutcast we were joined by FPL number one Bharat Dhody who told us what it was like to be top for 18 of the last 19 Gameweeks.

If you were number one how would you feel? What tactics would you adopt if in Bharat's position - just a few points ahead of the chasing pack? Would you go maverick? Go dullard?

I would be obsessed with making decisions. I think it would ruin the rest of my life to be honest.

Assuming I wasn’t going insane I would probably play it fairly safe captain wise but have a few differentials

VIP tickets to a Prem Lg game and basically a holiday in England to go with it....which is especially great if you don't live in England.

There was one year where the prize was tickets to a PL pre season cup in Asia.

You actually get to go to 2 matches 🙂

Pre season cup in asia would be quite cool if you also got 7 days all expenses paid holiday in asia. Its a less attractive prize if all it was was a 1 day round trip to watch Kashima antlers versus hull in Shanghai.

Well when I was in the top 50 I triple captained Andy Carroll, so obviously I'd overthink it and put the triple captaincy on Foden.
He sounds like he is very rational, so will keep playing his own game. His Willian to Ramsey move could be very cunning if Willian misses out on the Huddersfield game.

With a very weak defence and no Sterling, Bharat may not be able to take full advantage of his Bench Boost.

Which is a bit strange, because for most of the season he spent more on defence than most of us and played 4 at the back 21 times, with more success than on the 12 occasions when he played 3-5-2 or 3-4-3.

I think this year's winner is a toss up between Bharat and Rizwan.

            Depends on the situation.
If there was only one close rival, then I might consider making defensive moves against his squad.
But if there were a number of rivals and they might all be making different punts, then I would probably just pick the players I expected to score the most points and hope for the best.

I'd probably be aggressive and go for the juggler in the final 4 or 5 GWs. If he had gotten in Steling for Mahrez two gameweeks ago for example (a bit Captain Hindsight I know). One thing for sure it would be hard watching the games without a beer or two in hand!
Just watched the Scoutcast and he was a breath of fresh air, seemed a lovely guy and gave some good input. All the panel were good last night to be fair with no hogging of the mic 😉

Was OR2 after GW31 in 14/15 season after playing maverick without Kun while most had him. The magic carpet ride ended in Easter when he bagged a hatty v QPR at home.

Should I have taken a hit to get him? Maybe - but I was going for broke. Eminem said it best....

don't know how he does it.
Been in top 50 for about a month now. Forgotten how i played to get here. 2nd guessing everything and already tried to outsmart myself with the FH and cost me 20odd points and top 20 OR.
Spending more time looking down to work out how far i could fall with a disasterous end than looking upwards.
Never been this high in 10 years of playing.

Think I would be obsessing the last month. Pretty obsessed now and I am not in top 3,000. Would go Dullard with capntcy choice but get a few differentials in I fancied to do well. Would look at teams closest to me and see what player could hurt me the most. When you are ahead it is about limiting the damage from certain players and trying to get some differentials in that could hurt your rivals

His not getting sterling last week hurt him, which shows how making early transfers could pay off. But it's probably what took him to the top. Wish him all the best. Great scoutcast.

Current #1 here. Just thought I'd nip by and detail how I went about bottling it:

12h to deadline: Got into office, did some work then casually started browsing the web for some info from the press conferences.

5h to deadline: Somewhere along the way I found out that transfer deadline isn't on Saturday as is typical, but rather its TODAY!! Panic. Panic. Panic.

4h to deadline: Busted out of office and did some concerted research --> making the optimal number of transfers was costing me a staggering -16 (Bailly Christensen Willian Mahrez Barnes TO Stones Chambers Ramsey Sterling Ayew).

2h to deadline: Tried working up the courage to do it and then found out Chilwell was out too... -20!!

10m to deadline: Lost the nerve to pull off -20 and opted for a more conservative, relatively speaking, -12 (Bailly Christensen Willian Chilwell TO Chambers Bedanek VDH Sterling).

5m to deadline: decided to go check out how many hits #2 had taken and saw that he'd made no transfers -- had he not realised today was the deadline?! Could the Gods really be so kind?! Cue day dreaming.

30s after deadline: OH F**K!! Realised that I'd forgotten to pick my captain (damn you day dreams). Wanted to pick Jesus but I've ended up with last week's captain --> Kane. Cue meltdown.

What next? Well there'll be non-stop praying, especially for Kane to outscore Jesus, and if by some miracle I do end up 1st, it'll probably be thanks to this rather sizeable cock-up.

        GTG?

        DDG
        Danilo - Morgan - Kiko
        Son - Sanchez - Sterling - Xhaka
        Kane - Jesus - Austin

        Ryan - Lowton - Gross - Tarkowski

I know the defence is pretty bad but really wanted to afford Sanchez as a differential

This has to be the most justified -12 right?

Bailly Lowton Willian Lukaku—> Smalling Vertongen Sane Jesus (-12)

I don't like -12 htis but if Smalling and Vert keep 2 clean sheets each then that already sort of makes up the points hit, before considering the likely attacking returns from Sane and Jesus. So it is probably justified yes.

This is the gamble in it all I agree. My concern it’s Morata and Girouds form. Willian played 9 mins in the last 2 weeks. City look very explosive so I think I’m happy to gamble on it

        Bottomed on the last post...

To bring in Ederson, I need an extra £0.1m so considering replacing Barnes with Jordan Ayew for a -4 hit.

Would you bring in any other double gameweek players for a further hit? I'm chasing 35 points to the person top of my league.

        1FT, 0.7m ITB
        Pickford (Ryan)
        Smalling, Chilwell, Bauer (VVD, Lowton)

Ya, I don’t fancy Ayew to be honest, but Newcastle looked dire at Everton GW35 and the have 2 away games so it put me off Perez. He was the only other option I considered. Good luck mate.

        Wood/Lowton to Ayew/Smalling (-4)? Boring I know!!!

Would have the below for Bench Boost

        DDG, Fab
        Davies, Maguire, Smalling, Yedlin, Ogbonna
        Sterling, Sane, Son, Pogba, Arnautovic
        Kane, Jesus, Ayew

B - if Salah option still stands. Sane might be at risk of rotation but Ayew has much better points potential than King.

I sold him last week for Sterling for -4 and just wish I done it sooner, I held onto him too long thinking he is about to come good and never did.. doesn't look like doing anything really and in the last two games played quite deep to pick up the ball.

Lingard, even though he starts games he has gone of the boil and think his nice purple patch is over.
Willian could be in jeopard of starting games, however he could score well against HUD if he starts or comes on as a sub..

            Son Sterling Mahrez Mili (Cork)
            Kane Jesus Vardy

            0FT 1.4m ITB

I probably need to ship Bailly, as my Burnley defence isn't much use this week, but it's whether it's worth a hit.

            a) Mahrez > Sane (-4)
            b) Willian + Bailly > Sane + Smalling (-8)
