World Cup 2018 – Team Analysis – Denmark

Christian Eriksen is the standout World Cup Fantasy asset in Denmark’s ranks as they compete to get out of Group C.

The Scandinavians are heavily reliant on the Tottenham Hotspur man for their goals and assists, making him a prime candidate for Fantasy investment.

We’ve got everything you need to know about Denmark.

ROAD TO QUALIFICATION

It took some time for Denmark to find top gear in qualifying but the manner in which they finalised passage to Russia was truly devastating.

Coach Age Hareide now has the ‘Danish Dynamite’ capable of playing a direct attacking style of football shown best by the 4-0 thrashing of Poland last September and a 5-1 win over Republic of Ireland in the play-offs.

Denmark’s first five games in UEFA qualifying Group E left a lot to be desired, though. In that run they lost to Poland and relative newcomers Montenegro before drawing with Romania.

There are some detractors who claim Hareide’s side is still capable of such unconvincing performances. All involved in the national set-up will be working towards replicating the heights of the second half of their qualification campaign in Russia.

Denmark were undefeated in the final five matches of Group E averaging 2.6 goals per game. After a 0-0 draw at home against Republic of Ireland in the play-offs, they turned on the style to record a crushing 5-1 victory in Dublin.

The emphatic nature of their form over that period has generated optimism among the fans that Denmark can make it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. A lot of that will depend on the performance and fitness of their key players, who are the secret to the team’s success.

Either way, they will be an exciting prospect to watch even for the neutrals.

These are some telling words from coach Hareide: “At the last European Championship a lot of teams defended deep and then tried to launch a counter-attack. I don’t have the patience for that. I want to go forward as quickly as possible. Other teams can defend, Denmark wants to attack.”

UEFA QUALIFYING

Most starts: Christian Eriksen, Simon Kjaer (both 12), William Kvist (11), Thomas Delaney (10), Kasper Schmeichel (9).

Most goals: Eriksen (11), Delaney (4), Nicolai Jorgensen, Andreas Cornelius (both 2).

Most assists: Yussuf Poulsen (4), Eriksen (3), Jorgensen, Cornelius, Pione Sisto, Henrik Dalsgaard (all 2).

THE KEY TARGETS

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen (£9.0m on McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy) is in the form of his life for the international team.

The 26-year-old is well-clear at the top of Denmark’s goal involvement chart and is the only member of their squad who can offer consistency of Fantasy returns at the World Cup.

Eleven goals and three assists is nine goal involvements (14) more than the squad’s second best player in that respect; Yussuf Poulsen with five.

Eriksen has been an elite level player for several years at Spurs, involving himself in more than 20 goals per season for the last three campaigns in a row, but it is only in the last 18 months that he has become so influential at international level.

The key development has been coach Hareide’s insistence getting Eriksen on the ball as often as possible and building a team that facilitates that tactic. Denmark’s direct approach and set-piece responsibilities make Eriksen a strong candidate to consider for your team.

At the opposite end of the field, Denmark’s hopes for success also rest on the shoulders of Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m), 26 years on from his father winning Euro 92.

The Leicester City man is the established name in goal and, like Eriksen, has become a hugely influential figure in Denmark’s squad under Hareide.

With the attacking approach of his team-mates, Schmeichel is likely to have plenty of saves to make, which could benefit managers playing Fantasy games with added bonus points for that action.

In FPL this season only Lukas Fabianski saved more penalties than the Leicester City man too. Despite their style of play, Denmark have still managed clean sheets in seven of their last 14 matches and Schmeichel is the most assured of a start in defence alongside centre-back Simon Kjaer (£5.0m).

THE LONG SHOTS

The aforementioned Yussuf Poulsen (£6.5m) has to be looked at as an interesting budget option in attack, although he is not known for his goals.

Capable of operating either as a winger or a striker, Poulsen is an important link player for Denmark. That’s why he recorded more assists than any of his team-mates during the qualification period. The one negative from a Fantasy perspective for the 23-year-old is his game-time, though. Poulsen started just six of a possible 12 qualifying matches, often a victim of rotation.

In fact, a large bulk of Denmark’s attacking players have fallen foul of Hareide’s preference for making changes from one match to the next. The 64-year-old likes to use different formations depending on the opposition.

Denmark remain very direct in every possible set-up, but personnel and formation can often change.

Eriksen and Kjaer were the only individuals to start every qualifier while just four outfield players started more than eight matches on the road to Russia. That, combined with an over-reliance on Eriksen, is why forward assets such as Nicolai Jorgensen (£8.0m), who recorded two goals and two assists in qualifying, or Pione Sisto (£6.5m) are risky Fantasy selections.

Rotation is also a risk at the back as Andreas Christensen (£5.0m) and Mathias “Zanka” Jorgensen (£5.0m) compete for a centre-back berth alongside Kjaer.

The Chelsea man is the more established name with two more caps to his name (14) than the Huddersfield defender (12) although neither featured in recent friendlies. Each of them offers appeal at different ends of the pitch so it’s uncertain which of them will get guaranteed game-time in Russia.

Only Marcos Alonso recorded more shots in opposition penalty boxes (40) than Christensen’s 12 (11 of them headers) among Chelsea defenders this season, made more impressive by the fact that the latter only started 23 matches. On the other hand, Zanka ranked fifth among all defenders FPL’s Clearances, Blocks and Interceptions statistic in 2017/18, with a score of 337.

Drake and Pusha T are currently dissing each other via tracks and sh1ts getting epic. It's been building up for a while with lowkey swipes at each other (and others affiliated with them) but has escalated of late just before Drake releasing the self-proclaimed "biggest album of the year", and Drake is taking a beating after The Story of Adidon by Push

Biggie's flow was better, technically he was more sophisticated.
2Pac's strenght was how true he sounded and how well he was transfering emotions on to tracks.
He was so charismatic people really listend to him.

It also helped that 2Pac wasn't an ugly lump like Biggie was. Far more marketable.

Yer biggie had a great flow , only Big Pun maybe could rival him.

Pac gave you emotion and the things he rapped about grabbed you. He also had 2 or 3 different voices which gave him more styles.

                      Both great to be fair

Well Benzino owned " the source " magazine and he used to rate him self and other top rappers high in his magazine. He used to give Eminem average ratings so it kicked off

I think Eminem created his best ever track out of this battle called " the sauce" and also a great one called " nail in the coffin" but I think Benzino really nailed it with "Die another Day. " Just on how brutal it was.

Most will probably say Eminem destroyed him though. Eninem was great when he wasnt doing that chart rubbish. There will be something on YouTube about it I'm sure

Yeah, Eminem ripped him to pieces on a lot of his tracks (got all of his albums barring the latest album).

Never heard any of Benzino’s stuff though so was intrigued as to what he said.

                    Thanks for the insight.

It could never be on the same level but considering how sanitised the world is in 2018 it's very impressive.

Drake also has a lot to lose from this, he comes out looking goofy and he can never take the "hip hop throne" (not an actual thing, referring to how his status as a legitimate and truly game changing rapper is being put under the spotlight) and will have to settle for being a generally untalented individual good at churning out pop hits

Pusha T laughs at Drakes friend and producer OVO 40 for having Multiple Sclerosis and likely dying soon. Idk, it's pretty personal for a PR stubt. This is surely damaging to Drakes album coming out soon if he doesnt respond well. Maybe not his pop fans but his rep will be in tatters in the hip hop community

None of this lot is worthy to shine Chuck D’s shoes. That’s the king of hip hop right there. Never, ever, bettered.

Is it like a beef over who is the most politically correct?

I miss the old days when rappers had genuinely good lyrics and talent and when they had a beef it was serious and they used try and kill each other besides trying to take shots on twitter.

Fwiw Pusha has been in the game for 20+ years now, and The Story of Adidon has some very clever lyrics and lots of hidden meaning and shade as well as some nasty insults. He also somehow managed to dig up a photo of Drake non-ironically doing blackface and put it as the song cover, and exposed his secret illegitimate child. Pretty bad stuff

Hi guys. Is anyone on here at the moment playing the Sun World Cup game? How do you get past the Privacy Policy pop up?

I can login with my existing login ok, but as soon as I do I get this popup regarding their Privacy Policy. I press accept but nothing happens and the rest of the fantasy football stuff behind the screen is all greyed out. I've tried it on Chrome, Edge and Firefox and it's the same on all of them.

Is it a setting on my pc or is it them, do you know?

Unfortunately there's going to have to be a bit of a harder line on the language stuff starting next week if it continues.

If you're going to keep trying to beat the banned words filter with a bit of disguise, on words that are clearly not allowed, I'll have to do something about it and I'd really prefer not to

Isn't 'beating the filter' just self-censorship?

Like how TV bleeps swear words but you can tell what the swear word was meant to be (making it a sort of balance between censorship and maintaining the actual message)

There was a time earlier in the season that filters were relaxed here, but now it's tighter than it was before if you include moderation.

Just an observation... I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it, nor the effects.

Jurassic Park 1 is amazing. One of the best films ever.

However, the sequels are pretty poor in comparison imo.

The only sequels I can think of that outdo the originals are Godfather Part II and Aliens.

It would help if Geoff could list what "swear words" are allowed on here. Obviously it'd be OK to post them - mild ones I mean. Just be useful to know where the line is, rather than inadvertently get a post "modded"

I'm not sure why a site aimed at adults needs to worry about swearing but if it is we need to know where the line is.

Agree. Its a bit annoying when a relatively inoffensive longer post gets modded because the words "w*nker" or "t*sser" are in there. Of course a mistake you only make once, but still.

I don't really understand it tbh. I've seen people say it's about sponsorship, advertising etc but Twitter allows swearing for example and they have no problem getting advertising

Swearing is part and parcel of football as well, which is the subject of this website.

"Harassment, defamatory remarks, abuse, threatening behaviour, harmful, obscene, sexist, sexually oriented, homophobic, racially offensive or any objectionable material, will not be tolerated."

This is all fair enough and common sense. Doesn't mention swearing per se.

Maybe Geoff needs to review the Ts and Cs before he starts modding posts that don't breach the above. He's new I guess.

Yes, there is a difference between swearing "at" another user (clearly not acceptable) and merely swearing at a situation - "what a ****ing goal" or "OMG Kane". The latter is very different.

They also mention:"Disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour is outlawed"

Some who visit this site could/will find swearing "offensive". That's it. It's as simple as that.

Having said that, we've relaxed some of the banned words very recently and will review again.

But when were criticised for moderating a user who uses the "c word" it's bordering on ridiculous. Cleary such a term can never be permitted for use on the site and for us to be criticised for moderating that is really very disappointing.

And for those who point to the fact we run ads for 18+ services (which are Fantasy Football games btw). Yes we do, but Sky run betting ads before, during and after their football coverage but they still have to apologise for every swear word uttered by a player during a match. It's not like Thierry Henry can swear at Jamie Redknapp at half-time just because Ray Winstone has been pushing bet365 during the break.

I swear like a trooper but it's common sense that it can't be permitted on public website and forced on everyone who visits it. We don't need to post a site of banned words - just don't swear or attempt to swear when posting on the site.

It could offend and there's no need for it to discuss matters on a Fantasy Football site.

                      Yes, that's possible.

When it comes to improving HomeCrowd, allowing folk to swear in an acceptable way isn't really top of our priorities. We can look at it though.

The Sky analogy is way off, but it's your site. You may as well just say "I don't want swearing on here". Nobody can argue with that.

The actual mention of 18+ services in relation to swearing is "way off" - we don't ban swear words due to age restrictions.

There are those over 18 who can/will find swearing offensive and that's why we don't allow it.

It's not a crusade really. It's a question he's asked. Taking it as a crusade is being very over-sensitive

I actually don't really swear much myself, just think it's part of normal life, and especially with regards to football, so I think it's unrealistic to ban it altogether.

It’s been like that since your first post on the site. In fact it’s been far more strict - our banned list is smaller than it was back in the day when I used a third party filter.

Ah right, OK. I wouldn't really know cos I never try to post swear words myself. But I know others do.

Maybe have a word with Geoff as I think he maybe confused what the rules are. Either that or he's trying to make a name for himself early on, but I honestly don't think that'll do him any favours in the long run. Less is more where moderation is concerned IMO. Should be invisible.

I have to disagree. I've spoken to Geoff a little bit off the site and I think he's gotten off to a great start on the job.

Like Moyes succeeding Fergie, he had some big shoes to fill and he's stepped up amicably for me.

We can't be invisible when when posts are made criticising mods for removing a post that uses the "c-word" and when there are users continually attempting to test the filter. It's disruptive and can't be ignored.

I can assure you, we all want to be hands off and leave you guys to it but there also has to be a line somewhere.

This is one of the things that's difficult.

Every morning for the last few nights I've logged in and found c word posts, or worse, have been removed. If a user tries that and are disguising it, they know it's not allowed and will be removed - but then they complain and get other users bothered because of they hear 'moderation'.

That is always something that will be removed and those users know that

There are a few threads now where this has been talked about so I won't repeat too much, other than saying generally I agree.

It should be invisible, but that's hard when users post content they know will be removed, it gets removed, and then they're very vocal about having it removed when that was always going to be the case and they knew that before posting.

And again, it's mostly c word level stuff that is prompting these talks, and I'm not really willing to revise our stance on that stuff

The problem is that people get worked up because there is moderation but the majority of the stuff that is removed is pretty clearly inappropriate. I'm never going to post all of the comments that have been removed for people to see - that kind of defeats the purpose of removing them in the first place 😀

Anyway, I'm locking this now because I've posted my thoughts and we've had a good discussion on it but if it gets too many threads it will slow the site as we've seen in previous days. Anyone with any further views on this can mail me or Geoff.

In the meantime, Geoff will review the ban list and we'll also put the idea of auto subbing swear words rather than banning on the roadmap. That could work.

Exceptional talent and really demonstrates out pulling power that we've managed to sign him from under the noses of the likes of Citeh and Barcelona. I think the price is more likely 25-30m. Media always suggest we've paid more than we have to make out we're doing a 'Citeh'.

Fred as a strong defensive work ethic, his tackling skill is not the best but he uses his balance to recover the ball back. Good passing with both feet doesn't matter if it is a short or a long pass. It would be a great addition to United's midfield, playing alongside Matić and releasing Pogba from defensive duties.

Aye, I've been supporting that duo since day dot.

Think they have muted me now due an unfortunate Tadic incident 🙁

Doesn't matter of course as not concrete, but rumours over the opening Prem fixtures been posted on here yet? I'm probably doing some good old fashioned diall up work..

You have more than GW1? Either way, it won't be too long before they are official.

No, just GW1 allegedly so doesn't mean too much.. Unless you plan on using the WC in GW2!

              Just in case, I had:

              Fulham Vs Newcastle
              Leicester Vs Watford
              Wolves Vs Chelsea
              Arsenal Vs Brighton
              Man City Vs Everton
              Liverpool Vs West Ham
              Burnley Vs Spurs
              AFCB Vs Cardiff
              Huddersfield Vs Palace
              Saints Vs Man Utd

Probably wrong but I'll keep an eye out!

Plant based. Cured her of a very serious illness.

It's the only food that doesn't make me feel bloated and sluggish after I eat it.

I'm all for vegetarian mate but it does not cure a very serious illness. Either the illness wasn't very serious or the diet and recovery are coincidental. Sorry but I'm sick of reading rubbish about alternative medicine that actually ends up killing people because they don't seek proven treatment methods.

    Non Football related comment.

Just watched “Maze” on Netflix. IRA film based on true events with Tom Vaughan Lawlor. Good watch.
