Scoutcast Episode 267 – Lucky

Do we make our own luck? Or are there unforeseen events that can conspire to ruin even the best Fantasy managers’ seasons?

In this week’s Scoutcast, David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the role of fortune in Fantasy football as we look to introduce a ‘luck league’.

This is one of a number of new and revamped features we trialled following the international break.

This saw the return of old favourites, including Rough with the Smooth and clean sheet predictions, as well as a new version of Fantasy Island Risks that focuses purely on low-owned gems.

Our Community section has undergone a late spring clean too, focusing on the week’s key teams, players and talking point to allow us to have more in-depth discussions.

But as with all trials, some things don’t quite go as planned.

The introduction of forfeits for the Scoutcaster with the lowest monthly score and an unexpectedly controversial quiz proved to be more works in progress, which will be put back on the shelf for the time being.

Among all the upheaval we also find time to ponder going without Liverpool’s pricey talisman Mohamed Salah and frisk the fixtures to analyse the teams with the best upcoming run of games.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Looks good. Mhki to Maddison for me and since you're on WC why not get an better option than Robbo maybe Chilwell or Pereira. He has awful fixtures coming up

    Good morning all
    This is my current squad:
    Fabianski - stekelnberg
Mendy - Robertson - shaw - wan bissaka - peltier
    Odoi - salah - hazard - Walcott - Frazier
    Kamara - Aubumeyang - Aguero

    Resisted the wild card
    2ft. 0itb
Suggestions? Thinking shaw (if injured) to alonso but who funds it?
Also looking to get Kane soon

0.3 short for that move could do it for robinson out

If you are serious about getting Kane, you need to downgrade Salah, Hazard, Auba or Aguero. Out of those I would probably go for Salah to a option that frees up money for both Alonso and Kane. Especially considering you still have a wildcard to bring him back in.

Tempted to hold the free transfer, 3 potential injuries but taking a hit to get Alonso would give an even thinner squad!

Absolutely - I don't see Cardiff scoring in a month of Sundays though.

A hit takes away his CS so you have to hope he gets attacking returns and though he has been doing that to be fair, the rate at which he has is not sustainable(I hope :))

In a similar position. Squad needs surgery but dont want to use WC. Hold the ft, ride out the storm and you have a mini WC next week

      1. Eden Wizard
        • 6 Years
        6 years, 3 months ago

Exactly! It's only 1/2 mini WCs away from being good.

    3. We Go Again

Same position here. That 2 FT will be more useful next gameweek to make a squad surgery.

    Currently on WC and wondering:
    A) Salah + Henessey
    B) Mane + Ederson (have them at 9.9 and 5.5....so 1 more raise in order to gain +0.1 from both)

If I wait I will have to do 2FTs to get them back in and also have Moura and Pedro which are not secure except the coming GW....

    1. Jealous Viper
      • 6 Years

A for me though Hennys fixtures take a really bad turn soon so you need a decent backup. Ederson frustrating to own. No saves or bonus and Salah should outscore Mane

Have both mhki and Fraser but with Lowton and Robbo coming in for them. If signs are looking likely Fraser doesn't start think I'll swap Mhki out. Do I swap to Maddison or persist for a week and get Richa who could easily blank against Arsenal

    1. Bunk Moreland
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 3 months ago

I'd back Richarlison to score against Arsenal tbh, especially if they persist with Cech. But if Richarlison is the one you want, and you really rate him over Maddison, I'd hold as you got decent subs coming in.

I wouldn't do that even for free. Selling the best player in the game and a talisman striker for a hit?

If you want to risk Salah-less, do that transfer alone as I agree Hazard is looking likely to get the points the upcoming fixtures. Then use the money next week.

You're taking out one player who isnt sure to start for another who isnt sure to start. Pedro will most likely start (and score) this week but you'll have the same headache next couple of weeks

Not a bad idea but I'll hold onto pedro for the next 2 weeks then. Give Arsenal the benefit of doubt though their defense looks shambolic

It's probably Gomez' spot to lose, but Lovren will get a lot of matches as well. Both are injury prone, so I think Klopp will manage their minutes.

any thoughts on this WC team lads:

    Henn/Hamer
    Alonso, Mendy, Cook, Bennet/AWB
Hazard, Salah, Maddison, D.Silva/Rich(to save next week transfer)
    Aguero, Ings/Quaner

    i can play 442, 352, and 451 in gw 5 if necessary

    thx in advance

    1. Bunk Moreland
      • 9 Years

I would change the GKs, as Hamer may have lost his place with Lössl impressing (remember, Lössl was first choice last year anyway) and CPL bought a new GK this summer. Hennesey is doing fine atm but with a few bad matches he could be dropped.

Otherwise it seems quite balanced, I also have 3-5-2 formation but if I were on a WC I would switch to 3-4-3 due to no viable 4,5 striker.

I dont know, maybe D Silva - he is a good option but he frees up enough money to go Kamara and Ings to, f x, Mitro and Wilson (if you rate them as better options than Ings).

Ings is an injury risk. Best to spread the cash from your midfield in case you get left with only one striker in the near future (who may also be rotated)

You rode out half the storm with Rich so the horse has already bolted.
2 GW's and everyone will want him back.
Your side was designed never to play 3 forwards so unless you want to change the structure I see no point in those tfrs

No, lol. You will definitely want Rich in the coming GWs. Downgrade Silva maybe and get in Mitro/ Wilson (Although Wilson may also be an injury risk)

Yeah, it might work. Though conventional wisdom suggest going with 2, max 3 big hitters. Your 4 means you are relying on Ings to stay injury free (for what other options are there in his price bracket?) which seems unlikely.
