How Mohamed Salah is faring in FPL compared to last season

After studying how Sergio Aguero (£11.4m), Raheem Sterling (£11.2m) and Harry Kane (£12.4m) have fared in 2018/19 compared to their best-ever Fantasy Premier League seasons, we now turn our attention to the most premium of premium picks: Mohamed Salah (£13.0m).

In this mini-series, we look at the key underlying statistics of some big-money assets and analyse how the figures from this campaign are matching up to their stand-out FPL seasons in the past.

For Salah, his zenith was a record-breaking, 32-goal 2017/18 in which the Egyptian racked up 303 points in FPL.

Very few Fantasy managers are expecting the Liverpool midfielder to match that haul of last season, which is, of course, a bit of an issue given that Salah’s price has rocketed up to the £13.0m mark.

Salah’s “triple-hundred” in 2017/18 came courtesy of 32 goals, 12 assists, 15 clean sheet points and 26 bonus, scored at a rate of 8.42 FPL points per match (PPM).

The former Chelsea and Roma midfielder missed only two Premier League matches altogether, with just two of his 36 top-flight appearances coming off the bench.

Salah is an ever-present this campaign, averaging 6.25 FPL points per match.

With competition for attacking places at Liverpool perhaps fiercer this season than it was in 2017/18, we can surely expect Salah to miss out on a few starts as the fixture schedule gets ever-more congested, though Jurgen Klopp has resisted the urge to rest last season’s talisman (in the league, at least) with three months of the campaign already gone.

If Salah avoids injury and goes on to make the same number of league appearances in 2018/19 as he did last year (36) while scoring at his current rate, we can expect the Egyptian to rack up somewhere in the region of 225 FPL points – although any dreaded “one-point” cameos off the bench would, of course, affect that rather crude forecast.

With so many unknown variables to take into account between now and May, it is pretty futile to make such a projection based on PPM.

Instead, we will look at Salah’s attacking KPIs from last season to see how his current underlying statistics contrast with those of 2017/18.

Him winning all these awards is a scam. Nowhere near the levels of Messi and Ronaldo. And Salah, KDB, Mbappe and a couple others were better than him last season.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. England got to the semi-finals after one of, if not the easiest draw in World Cup history. And we still lost to Croatia in the semi finals. We are not a good team whatsoever. No unity. Our front three remind me of Bambi on ice.

Being superb would mean we are 3-0 up after converting all of our clear-cut golden chances. Being superb is not choking and being 1-0 down.

Common issue, trying to demendyfy my team:

    Patricio
    Mendy(6.4) - Alonso - Robertson - Doherty
    Salah - Hazard - Fraser(5.9) - Milner(5.6)
    Agüero - Wilson

    Foster - Trippier - Billing - Success

2 FT and 1.0 ITB. Players who I'm, in principle, ready to lose this GW have selling prices in the brackets.

There are several decent options, but I'm interested in fresh outside view as I'm stuck to variations of just 6-7 names. (Thanks all who have already offered their insight regarding Mendy swap!)

By the way, Richarlison seems like an obvious choice - could buy him -, but half of his 6 next matches worry me. Feels somehow too late or too early to bring him in, especially as he might not be in full health.

What's Your suggestion? All thoughts are appreciated.

Captaincy is going to be more important than ever in the coming GWs. City and Liverpool with 3 away games in the next 4 leave no obvious choices: Hazard GW14 will be popular - the same week City and Pool have that home fixture.

Do people have captaincy plans for the next few GWs? I'm still considering upgrading Mane to Salah but will have to captain if I do I think.

Salah perma captain shouldn’t be far off the mark - Kun & Sterling have had their 20 pointers already, Mo’s should be next. Watford away is a good fixture these days

"Watford away is a good fixture these days"

        Wat vs Bri 2-0
        Wat vs CP 2-1
        Wat - Spurs 2-1
        Wat - ManU 1-2
        Wat - Bou 0-4
        Wat - Hud 3-0

Mmmmmm not too sure if I'm capping Mo.

It is poor how often England lose to 'good' teams. Before beating Spain last month, the last time we beat a decent team in a competitive fixture was Argentina in 2002. Since then we have lost to Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Brazil etc.

No its been our level for as long as I can remember (WC 1990). Good enough to beat the non-top 10 teams and qualify on a regular basis, occasionally get a result against a top 10 team, but more often lose, sometimes 'heroically' on pens.

England are playing well.. just a few alterations to be an effective side

    Dyer offers no value

    Fullback have been poor

England will score - this will end up a draw

Brilliant form from Croatia this week. Comfortably at the bottom of the table before beating Spain at home (having lost 6-0 in the reverse) and England away to qualify for the play off. Well in.
