Sterling, Silva and Bernardo benched as Guardiola rotates heavily

Double Gameweek 32 comes to a head on Wednesday evening with three Premier League matches that all kick off at 19:45 BST.

Crystal Palace are the visitors to Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium, while Manchester City and Chelsea host Cardiff City and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively.

The headline team news at the Etihad sees Pep Guardiola make seven changes, with Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and David Silva among the players to drop to the bench.

Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gündogan are also among the substitutes, while Nicolas Otamendi drops out of the match-day squad.

Guardiola had previously ruled Sergio Aguero out of tonight’s match, so it is no shock to see Gabriel Jesus leading the line for City.

Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez will flank the Brazilian, while there is a first Premier League start of the season for Phil Foden.

Fernandinho, John Stones and Danilo are also recalled.

Neil Warnock has made only one change, with Harry Arter being replaced in the starting XI by Joe Ralls.

Maurizio Sarri has matched Guardiola in making seven alterations.

Eden Hazard returns to the Chelsea starting XI following his benching at Cardiff on Sunday, while there is a full Premier League debut for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Gonzalo Higuain makes way for Olivier Giroud, while Emerson Palmieri replaces the injured Marcos Alonso.

N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen are recalled as Willian, Pedro, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and Antonio Rudiger drop out.

Chris Hughton has made four changes, the most eye-catching of which sees the fit-again Florin Andone replace Glenn Murray up front.

Solly March, Bruno and Gaetan Bong all start at the expense of Anthony Knockaert, Martin Montoya and Bernardo.

Son Heung-min returns to the Spurs starting XI, replacing Lucas Moura in the Lilywhites’ attack.

Ben Davies is preferred to Davinson Sanchez in Mauricio Pochettino’s only other change.

Roy Hodgson has brought Cheikhou Kouyate, James McArthur and Martin Kelly into his starting XI and benched Scott Dann, Max Meyer and Andros Townsend.

That means Jeffrey Schlupp will move even further upfield on the left of a front three, with Wilfried Zaha switching to the right flank.

Chelsea XI: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Giroud, Hazard.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Ryan, Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Bong, Bissouma, Stephens, Propper, March, Andone, Jahanbakhsh.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Zinchenko, Stones, Laporte, Danilo, Fernandinho, Foden, De Bruyne, Sane, Mahrez, Jesus.

Cardiff City XI: Etheridge, Peltier, Morrison, Manga, Bennett, Gunnarsson, Ralls, Camarasa, Murphy, Hoilett, Niasse.

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Trippier, Sissoko, Eriksen, Rose, Alli, Son, Kane.

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Kelly, Van Aanholt, Kouyate, Milivojevic, McArthur, Zaha, Batshuayi, Schlupp.

Talk to me about Watford and Wolves assets for the run-in. Would you expect the winner of their semi-final to rest/rotate for the season end, or will they keep going for it in the league and risk injury/fatigue to their main players?

Conversely, will the loser be on the beach? Or am I overthinking this? I just remember picking Leicester and Burnley players at last season's DGW wildcard and they burned me badly as they had nothing to play for.

      • 13 Years

I think they'll both go for a decent finish in the league. They don't have small squads tho. Wolves are light up top I guess.

Thanks. I was surprised by both as I expected more rotation from Watford's attack especially. There are at least 3 from each team I want on my wildcard but I can't help but feel at least one of them is going to spring a few surprises for the run-in...

Maybe not at the same time, but I'm looking at Jota, Jimenez and Doherty from Wolves, and Deeney, Deulofeu, Foster and Doucoure from Watford. Won't be all at once because if I get Jimenez for example the other two strikers will be premium ones.

I think Jiminez and Jota showed they can get good returns with 100 mins. I'd be happy punting on those. I don't think their defence is worthy of a punt. I think Deulofeu is a really dangerous pick particularly with Gray in form. I'd happily punt on Deeney, Doucoure and Holebas

Think both will still be fighting for a good prem finish but players such as Delu, Deeney, Jota and Jimi will likely play 70 mins in games over 90. I like Jota, Jimi and Deeney in my WC for 34 but suppose FA Cup may sway me

    3. Pierce34

    Fab
    TAA VVD AWB

    1. Pierce34

    Rant!

Small decisions really proved to have a big impact on my score.
    1. Saw the Lindelof missing rumours in the first match
    2. Try to remove him and try to upgrade to Young for more attacking threat
    3. Proceed to downgrade Eriksen from my draft to Alli
    4. Proceed to downgrade Azpi from my draft to Luiz

    Bam!

      • 6 Years

Should have just made a straight swap Lindelöf for PVA and kept Eriksen and Azpi. Would have got more points that way.

Quite a few of last season's bargains performed well this gameweek.

Take the Palace lads... Milivejovic, Zaha, PVA were all in and around our squads this time last year. Yet, this year, most owned alternative Palace assets. Watford's Doucoure was another great asset last year.

Is there anything in this or is it sometimes worthwhile punting on retro pick?

Are we guilty of overlooking these solid assets for newer, cooler options?

    1. Royal5
      • 13 Years

Zaha has picked up lately but for me been a huge let down. Went almost 20 games without a goal. Watford assest on the other hand I wish I payed more attention to.

Since 26 he seemed to gain form. Deulofeu is skewed massively by his hattrick. Doucoure has matched last season I believe now

I went Jota over Delu so that paid off. Wish I went Deeney over Hig though which would've meant Azpi over Boly. No regrets though

I went PVA because he has served me well in the past. On a free hit I'd rather take a punt on him than Schlupp regardless of what the stats say. Just feels better when one of your old favourites brings home the bacon one more time.

To make people feel better about 50/50 calls:

    I posted this last week:

"Depending on Rashford being fit, any feedback on this team?

    Kepa
    Laporte/Schlupp/Dunk
    Hazard/Pogba/Eriksen/Sterling
    Aguero/Jimenez/Rashford"

Then, just before the deadline, I did Kepa, Laporte, Dunk and Eriksen to Ederson, Luiz, Lindelof and Alli - a 24 point swing, and the difference between 70k and 40k.

They were fairly sensible, logical moves at the time, that have had a major impact on my season - I was looking at a 117 point GW with my initial team. Just because things don't have the outcome you wanted, it doesn't mean they were stupid decisions at the time!

    1. EMBOLOFAN
      • 6 Years

No regrets. Went Hig over Jimi or Deeney but knew the risks. Jota over Delu and Laporte as my 3rd city are happy times. So a side of both :). Didn't realise top 100k was so close. I got 95 and moved from 83k to 72k

I've had him since GWK1 but if I sell on my wildcard then I don't think he'll be back. I think Mane, Sterling, Kane and either Auba or Kun will be my big hitters and if Salah kills me then so be it.
