Sign up for latest FFScout Charity Cup on July 28

The third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Charity Cup is now less than three weeks away and already around 40 players have signed up to play. But we want more of you!

Following the success of the first two competitions in February and November 2018, which featured around 80 players and raised over £2,000 for the Melanoma Research Foundation and for Campaign Against Living Miserably, this time we’ll be raising money for the Stroke Association.

Most of you will know that Joe, a much-loved member of FFS and the wider Fantasy Football community, recently suffered a bleed on his brain. Thankfully, after a fairly hellish month, he is gradually returning to normal.

The Charity Cup will be held in the morning of Sunday 28 July 2019 at Whittington Park Astro Pitch in London linked heremeeting at 9:15 am to finalise teams etc.

The full address is Holloway Road, Islington, London N19 4RS. The closest Tube station is Archway on the Northern Line (8min walk) and the closest London Overground station is Upper Holloway (2min walk).

As always, the precise format (including squad sizes) will depend on numbers but everyone will get decent game-time in a 7 or 8 aside format.

This is real-life football (not an FPL online cup!) with players of all ages, fitness and abilities very welcome.

As with previous tournaments, we’ll be organising players into squads, so you don’t need to round up a team yourself, although feel free to invite guest players to boost the numbers.

If you would like to take part please email peter.kouwenberg76@gmail.com with your contact details and you will be added to the WhatsApp group for further information (unless you state that you would rather receive information by separate email only).

Even if you are not able to play, please donate to the Stroke Association at the Just Giving page which is linked here.

I see BSilva matching KDBs output this year for 1.5 less......

I was thinking the opposite, KdB's direct style of play will impact Bilva's fantasy output...and not in a good way.

I don’t think pep will allow KDB to do that, Bilva was arguably their best player last year.

Different role for KDB in the team nowadays in comparison to when pep arrives or when Pellegrini was around IMO.

One of my set ups has Sterling KdB and Bilva. Overkill perhaps and a guarantee that Kun will assist himself to 100 goals in the season but tempting.

If the 1.5 gets you Vardy I’d go for it. The only thing holding me back on KdB is fitness doubts and whether Pep will go easy on him early.

    Any advice is welcome.

Apparently WestHam made an offer for a season-long loan for Higuain. So there's that...

I didn't expect to read that this morning, an odd one.
I'm in two minds as a fan, he's not the type of signing we want profile wise, Haller would be immense if that has any truth. But Higuain's record is obviously not something to ignore especially for West Ham's level. I just don't think the PL suits him that well.

    2. el polako

I really hope this isnt true.
Higuain is fat, past his prime and for a longer while his form is dipping.
Thats just lazy scouting from Hammers, there is talent out there ( Sebastien Haller ?!) and Krzysztof Piatek who replaced Higuain at Milan is the best example.

rumours are that Haller rejected the offer, clubs had agreed.

In an ideal situation these deals need to be kept on the sly. Not a good look to keep being told no.

in fairness, they are rumours...probably true, but no official club statements or anything

      You could do:

      Vardy King (Greenwood)

here is my 4-4-2 draft featuring these 3 players:
      Pope
      TAA-VVD-Digne-Coleman
      Salah-Sterling-Zaha-FAnderson
      Vardy-DCL
      4.0-Kelly-Dendoncker-4.5

You could also do DCL,FAnderson -> King, Brooks if you want BOU attacking coverage

      I've gone for...

      Ryan / Button
      VVD / TAA / Digne / Zinchenko / Kelly
      Salah / Sterling / Siggy / Noble / Dendoncker
      Vardy / King / Greenwood

Could also go the route of having 2x rotating 4.5 defenders to achieve this, which I'll look into more once we get more of an idea in preseason as to who's a likely starter.

      Fab / Button
      Rob / TAA / Digne / Cathcart / Kelly

1/ TAA - higher points per game because of assist potential, on corners and has s piece of direct free kicks. But comes with some rotation risk due to age, squad options, and injuries.

2/ VVD - goal threat. Guaranteed starter.

3/ Robbo - guaranteed starter, probably safer option than TAA due to lack of competition.

If you have a good bench then TAA is the best due to being on some set-pieces (especially if Milner is out) but he is most prone to rest/rotation out of the 3. Robbo is good and attacking and VVD has a price advantage over the two but least attacking so if you have a solid bench:
      TAA>Rob>VVD

      if not, then Rob>VVD>TAA

No one worth their salt is willing to work with Ashley. I did read yesterday Queque Flores (ex Watford) is unemployed and available. I'm not saying Bruce is a no-go; I'm simply saying Toon are done until Ashley goes. With or without Bruce I'm tipping them for relegation.

Pragmatically Bruce could work short term.

He loves Newcastle so might deal better with Ashley rubbish
He’s going to be able to use Rafa assets and not introduce new style - that’d be a killer imo
He could get a team up and running quite quickly - loss of preseason time less damaging

Wouldn’t like him long term mind

If he stays fit he’ll go very close.

There was nothing at all in it last season when he went lame in GW22. People are getting blinded imo by talk of poor value premium strikers. Auba was also exactly level at that point. It was the combination of Kane injury and introduction of Arsenal rotation in favour of Laca that tilted the balance.

Bizarrely for a City asset Sterling is only value for one reason this season - nailed. Otherwise he looks poor value

Sterling looks poor value? He had the best PPG in FPL last season.

          He’s gone up in price.

Read my post and look at the numbers in the first half of the season plus. Sterling only becomes value over the season - very few will be daft enough not to transfer him out at some point for a better performing premium.

At 11 no question. At 12 a very marginal call imo over Kane/Auba.

Completely agree mate. The price rises given to the premium mids (Salah, Sterling and Mane) will probably make them less value for money than the premium forwards this season.

Who cares about PPG? Absolute Points is more important for Premiums and especially captaincy options because a benched or managed minutes captain is a disaster.

Once again he has better PPG than the more expensive Salah.

I can't see how you can suggest that he is poor value when last season he scored 1.2 points a game more than the strikers you mentioned.

I'm not suggesting that he has to be kept all season but he has better opening fixtures than those two strikers as well.

              Up in value

He misses matches anyway so ppg deeply misleading

Kane Auba exactly matched him when both fit and not rotated. Kane injury and Auba rotation are what you’re gambling on

    Re-post from old news
    I have a back 6 of
    Lloris
    Alonso Laporte Digne TAA Robbo
It does cost me a big hitter but value in the backs is far superior.
Alonso is a wait and see and I am thinking I could get Rico at 4 mil and upgrade Wilson to Kane.
It looks a no brainer, especially looking at balance but I do believe outside of Salah who will be C every week, this is the 1st season to go 5 at the back.
The keeper is another story. Last 3 years 145,144, 143. Massive annual improvements. But this return is fine for 5.5

    Anyone else thinking the same.

Ah someone else looking at Alonso. The other tiger from early last season I’m seriously considering is Holebas - perhaps in combination to balance funds.

I don’t see either as a long term play but if you’re not blinded by season value and they look nailed - potential gold

I think I'm just going to go for either Heaton or Pope if one is clear first choice. Double Liverpool and Digne at the back with Coleman on the bench week one.
Coleman will rotate with Deulofeu and King so that I always have one decent bench player.

I've tried it in loads of previous seasons. It's frustrating as cheap keepers only get about 8 cleansheets and they can be really difficult to predict.
Last year I just had Fabianski, he scored really well with some unexpected hauls that I know I would have benched him for if I had another option.
This year I will just have Burnley's keeper or Fabianski again.

Kantés points per match average for last season was better than Mata Noble, Knockaert, Sanchez..

    ...KDB!

That's not points per match per million, that's points scored on average per game played. I know KDB was injured for much of the season and maybe wasn't in form or at peak fitness in the games he did play, and he got a couple of 1-2 pointers in the games he started and came off injured... but still - is he really worth 9.5m?
