Want to work for Fantasy Football Scout? Get in touch

As we gear up for the start of the 2019/20 season, we are frantically working behind the scenes to make improvements for our site users and subscribers.

We have a number of exciting developments in the pipeline but we’ll need an additional body to help us roll out the changes we have planned.

Our previous call to arms was for editorial staff but we are now looking for a web developer to assist with the technical side of things.

We work remotely so location shouldn’t be an issue for anyone considering applying. Flexibility of hours would be desirable, however.

We are looking for the following skills from our candidates:

Required

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and CSS, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model
  • Proficient with CSS2/CSS3
  • Knowledge of Accessibility and Web Standards
  • Experience with both Responsive and Adaptive Web Design

Beneficial

  • A working knowledge of Git
  • Experience with PHP

Ideal

  • Experience of React.js
  • Knowledge of WordPress

Based on past experience with our job adverts, we need to stress that it may take a little time to look through and respond to applications. But if that doesn’t put you off and you want to get involved with the next chapter of the site, please drop us a line with your CV at jobs@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

        Haha. Brilliant.

I still remember the utterly bizarre article that was posted which declared Brighton defensive assets were a must because it was a DGW hahaha.

I'd love a bit more insight than that for this season but I highly doubt we will find it here.

Still, we have all the RMT posts to laugh at.

Anyone looking at Azpi? If he is attacking then he has the potential to garner a good number of attacking points coupled with the good early fixtures and even better CS potential. At 6M is he worth a place for many of the Managers?

Right now I'm more interested in Zappacosta (4.5!) who has started the last two. Azpi played CB in the first game as well

My bad, played there. Who starts in pre-season isn't very relevant anyway, whole team changes at half-time

One to watch as they have some great fixtures but hard to judge, especially when some bargains may emerge like Tomori, Christensen or James.

I think Brooks is decent for the first two. Or Tielemans.
At 6.0 only Yarmolenko at a push. My fifth mid is Maddison atm

Don't enjoy seeing Neves step up for a penalty so I hope Jimenez nails them down this season, as he should.
Moutinho has his fair share of set-pieces though and plays further up the pitch than Neves.

He is there because of his price tbh. I think 12M for Sterling is too much as I rather captain Salah. I also see Vardy as a big hitter and captain option at just 9, but wouldn't captain KDB at 9.5 (if that makes sense)

I hear ya. My first team had Siggy instead of Sterling and I spread the money around but I feel like you're looking at a red arrow every game that Sterling goes off. Right now I'm looking at:

                Pope
                TAA/Robbo/Coleman
                Salah/Sterling/Tielemans/Fraser/Jorginho
                Vardy/King

Undoubtedly a red arrow when Sterling does but could you argue greens the rest of the time?

There's also no ruling out a haul from someone else in the same week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm nervous as a non-Sterling owner but spreading across a squad feels better for me.

Absolutely a legit argument. I guess it decides how lucky you get week to week with those other players. For me I'll take the semi-certainty of Sterling points but I think this is one of the big choices we're forced to make this year.

There is a young midfielder, playing in the third best fixture on opening day, who has scored 200+ previously, who is on set pieces, and who is in nobody's team. He is the solution to my 352 team! 😉

But I suppose that's the same debate people have been having with Vardy. But Erik is definitely under-the-radar if Spurs get it together (and Ndembele looks like a player to me).

You have interesting players that can pop some goals from time to time:

Duffy is a aggressive beast for headers

Schar is a Card Magnet but scores

Boly is tall bean poll that scores

Lascelles used to score but gets hurt a lot

Ake is interesting, if he played for Chelsea or a big team he could instantly be a VVD (this is just my opinion)

Just an observation. Spurs really do have a smashing run of home fixtures, right up to GW18 (AVL NEW CPL SOU WAT SHU BOU BUR), when they play Chelsea. Up to then, nothing but newly-promoted or bottom-half teams at home. (And of course some decent away ones too.) If New WHL becomes the happy-place Old WHL was before they moved ... there's points in Spurs somehwere.

Why everyone will have at least 1 Chelsea (and probably Man Utd) Mid/Fwd on wildcard

Just a few thoughts on Chelsea (and Man Utd). At a conservative estimate of regressing from last year's performance (which for both was poor in comparison to recent years), you would expect both teams to have a minimum of 55 goals per season attributable to players. This is like Bournemouth this year, it's not asking for loads - it could well be 20% higher than that based on last season's xG.

Taking off 10 goals/assists from defenders (which is on the high end and would make for some great defensive options too), and assuming the rest of the goals aren't all from fpl fwds (which given both teams will only have 1 or max 2 playing at once is fairly likely), I estimate there's a minimum of 408 points available to forwards in addition to appearances (90% assist to goal ratio, 70 bonus points, 4.5 average points for a goal).

Even if these were to be spread equally across 6 forward positions (which is very unlikely if you've got kante/kovacic/mctominay etc), that's 68 points each + 76 appearance + e.g 10 clean sheets = 154 points for a nailed player. That's over 4 points per game minimum and almost certainly more if assuming defensive midfielders score less, and at 7m or less, with only Pulisic at 7.5m. Man Utd options obviously more contingent on transfer window/fpl prices, but there is similar opportunities there, even their 8.5m players - remember these are all minimum conservative assumptions: somebody will be scoring their goals. Therefore, the main deciding factor will be not too much rotation, but if there is a fairly regular starter in any of the four most attacking roles in either team there is almost guaranteed for one or more to represent value.

Let's just compare that with teams that could arguably even challenge for scoring similar number of goals, let alone your Arsenal and Spurs with 11m/9.5m options - Leicester: Vardy 9m, Bournemouth: Fraser 7.5m, Wilson 8m (both who scored much higher ppg than the above from a similar team goals scored last season), Everton: Sigurdsson + Richarlison 8m, Wolves: Jiminez 7.5m (who would represent great value if he scored the same proportion of Wolves

There was more analysis, but obviously too long a post! TLDR - the numbers back up massive potential for Chelsea/Man Utd attacking assets, we should plan for them being in our teams as soon as things become clear...

              • 15 Years
              5 years, 4 months ago

Well it might influence it, particularly team structure / wildcard timescales even if we don't know exactly who will emerge.

I think the probability for four 6-7.5m mids/fwds this year (including in the above) to score 170+ is high given the number of players in this bracket, and those from teams like the above that could score lots of goals. Therefore, 5 man defences will probably need to be dismantled sooner rather than later, unless 5th top defender (factoring in max 2 pool) is scoring at this level which would be unusual. And 9m+ players will have to really exceed expectations to prove value.

I think it also means if it's not clear gw1, you could well expect an early wildcard/team surgery, and if planning gw4 when chelsea play sheff utd at home would see like a decent point to jump on the bandwagon, depending on CHO/RLC return dates. So you might focus on more first three week returns than a longer period say in that case...

Sensible thinking to me - got to be value to be found. Guess it's still wait and see, or perhaps take a chance on proven players like e.g. Azpi, Alonso or Rashford.

Kelly from Bristol City is their new LB (although also can play at CB). Adam Smith played there a bit last season and then there's bloody Charlie Daniels (injured). Be amazed if Rico is involved again and as G said, may well be off this summer.

          Any thoughts on this guys:

          Pickford (Button)
          Robertson TAA Laporte Digne (Kelly)
          Salah Sterling Sigurdsson Fraser Kante
          Wesley ( 2x4.5)

Not a fan of one striker and 2 4.5 fodders up top. No bench if Wesley is out

Laporte to Coleman, Pickford to Ederson, gets you clean sheets from the same teams with the greater attacking potential of Coleman + .5 itb. You can upgrade Wesley to king, del, deeney if you prefer that.

Pickford represents better value for money judging by recent seasons. Pickford is a massive shout for the go to GK for this season even if he is 5.5m.

I would take some funds out of defence (and even downgrade Siggy if necessary) and put them up top

Keep an eye on whether or not Zouma returns. He was a big factor in that late-season clean sheet run for Everton and it looks like he's heading back to Chelsea.

I prefer Deeney over Deulofeu. Deeney likely to get more minutes as Deulofeu was subbed off a lot more last season. If a natural striker like Gray plays, Deulofeu will be moved out wide or benched/subbed. On pens too like you said.

Absolutely this. Am likely to have neither, but can't believe people put Deulo ahead of Deeney.

Not keen on Cathcart, really don't get the love for him. but otherwise quite strong. I'd also consider getting rid of Zaha.

Just because of the Watford and Brighton rotation. He is the best 4.5 option from the Watford defence. I’m looking at Felipe Anderson also but I think I’ll stick with Zaha for now.
