Analysing the FPL assets Lampard has to choose from at Chelsea

Fantasy managers will very likely learn more about Chelsea assets from pre-season than they can from the Blues’ performances in 2018/19.

There has been a regime change at Stamford Bridge this summer, with Frank Lampard being appointed as head coach following the departure of the Juventus-bound Maurizio Sarri.

As a result, there’ll be a different system and style in place in west London next season to the regimented 4-3-3 ‘Sarri-ball’ we have become accustomed to over the last 12 months.

Lampard has already experimented with a 4-2-3-1, a 4-4-2 diamond and 4-1-4-1 in Chelsea’s pre-season fixtures so far and the aggressive press that he favoured at Derby County has been in evidence, too.

READ MORE: What Fantasy managers can expect from Frank Lampard

We Fantasy managers are also faced with the task of preparing for life without Eden Hazard for the first time in seven years.

How well the Blues can cope with their talisman’s exit is uncertain, particularly as their two-window transfer ban is still in operation.

There is still something to be gained by looking at the statistics from last season, however, to see which areas Lampard may need to address and which players could possibly shine following Hazard’s departure.

How many points do you expect out of Brooks? I think it's a bit risky having Brooks and Dendoncker - two cheapish midfielders - if a 9m+ heavy hitter (KdB/Vardy) emerges, you may find it tough to change formations quickly..

Chelsea intrigue me, I am just worried about what will happen, in a similar way that United had the honeymoon and then collapsed.

I think that it's going to be a serious struggle for Chelsea this season. Main creative influence gone , transfer ban and a very inexperienced and nostalgic pick for a manager. The upside is potentially a few very promosing FPL bargains . I think that they will finish 5th - 7th. Lampard could easily be sacked mid season.

I expect KdB to outscore practically all mids, shy of Salah and Sterling. Siggy is awesome and all, but I think Everton will struggle to score enough goals to warrant the 8m.

TAA > Zinchenko over the course of a season, but we strongly suspect Zinchenko will get the nod over Angellino (who's been frankly awful in pre-season). Maybe trying too hard to impress.

With Gomez back, he may get a few games at RB. TAA doesn't strike me as a player who can consistently play 35 PL games. I think he'll be streaky (but gold when in the team).

            • 13 Years

TAA was too young this season and last he should be filling out soon. As long as he doesn't burn out he'll be ok but he's had a big rest now. The gomez situation is a bit annoying. I also think perez could cover siggy if he isn't injured

            1. Twisted Saltergater
              • 15 Years
              5 years, 2 months ago

Perez is very interesting. I just wish he was 6m rather than 6.5m.

TAA has been electric whenever he plays. 3 assists in one game just doesn't happen - part of me wonders if the stars aligned for him last season and he may return to the mean. That said, if he's on a fair share of corners and free kicks then why should it? Klopp clearly likes to attack via the fullbacks.

I just don't get a feeling of consistency with him yet and I'm not sure that comes with age - I'm of the opinion you're either consistent or not. Milner was consistently dull at 17 🙂

1 as in 3. I'm very confused by my numbering system.

For clarity Maddi and tieleman are very close.

How’s this Kane team looking? Relies on Villa/Burnley rotation between Taylor and Targett subject to preseason form

    Fabianski
    TAA Van Dijk Zinchenko Taylor
    Salah KDB Pérez Brooks
    Kane Wilson

    Woodman Greenwood Dendoncker Targett

Maybe. But if you’re playing the “don’t buy anyone” card, let’s play the “don’t sell anyone” too.

Tosun, Walcott, Richarlison, Niasse and maybe Lookman could all eat into his game time.

More importantly I’d say is his 10-15 goals in 70 odd games isn’t inspiring enough to pick him.

If Gueye leaves Everton and Zouma stays at Chelsea the appeal of Coleman and Digne is greatly reduced.

The appeal of Coleman yes, but not Digne. Digne will score goals and assist, I don't own him for his CS capacity.

Not really. Mina is just as capable if not better than Zouma, and Delph will play the Gueye role

      1. George Sillett
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Mina is very much a poor man's Zouma as ia Delph a poor man's Gueye. Not in the same class.

      2. Poseidon.
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Mina is nowhere near as good as Zouma and Delph nowhere near as good as Gueye.

Both Digne and Coleman will still represent good value but there’s no getting away from their CS potential being harmed unless they bring players in.

I picked my team before joining the site but it is very "template".
Has anyone looked at team structures with less emphsis on the premium defenders and more up front? I appreciate all the maths points toward the template but wondering if anyone else is daring to differ.

better off going heavy midfield with the likes of zaha, perez, kdb, siggy, fraser than go heavy up top. If the strikers can get further than the 22 that won the golden boot last year then heavy up top has a chance but all strikers are a bit low on goals
