The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double Dilemma

Having failed to notch away from Craven Cottage this calendar year, many a Fantasy managers’ plans for the upcoming double Gameweek 36 had centred around getting rid of Clint Dempsey. This afternoon at the Reebok, the American give us plenty to ponder as a brace ended Bolton’s recent winning run and sent the US international to second behind Robin Van Persie in the overall points rankings.

Prior to today’s display, Dempsey’s notoriously poor away form had produced just three goals, compared to 10 goals and six assists in front of his own fans. With a blank Gameweek 34 on the horizon and trips to Liverpool and Everton in Gameweek 36, the decision to transfer him out made plenty sense; Fulham had scored just eight on the road all season before today, after all. Now, however, many have a dilemma.

Given his current form, those still holding Dempsey will surely look upon Monday evening’s upcoming home clash against Chelsea as another potentially strong opportunity of points. The visit of Wigan in Gameweek 35 affords him the chance of a substantial home haul, with the option of the captain’s armband a definite possibility.

While Gareth Bale and David Silva (without a goal since Gameweek 24 and Gameweek 16 respectively) stumble towards the finish line, Dempsey – handed a role up front in light of Pavel Pogrebnyak’s absence – simply shows no sign of letting up as he forges further ahead of his fellow-midfielders in the Fantasy running.

Transfer plans may now be postponed or ripped up altogether as we look for ways to hold onto the American. That straight swap for Theo Walcott before Arsenal’s trip to Wolves on Wednesday that many had in mind, or the move to Stephane Sessegnon for Sunderland’s home game with the midlanders in Gameweek 34 may never see the light of day now. With form the clear winner over fixtures as the season heats up, can we really afford to run the risk of moving out such a potent source of points?

I'm really not sure about Baines any more. the way Everton are now playing means that he'll get few assists and more assist assists.

No points yesterday means he is now a bad pick?

He is in a team with a great defensive record. They are in form and he is on penalties not to mention his ability to score from free kicks. He also managed to get maximum bonus points in a game with 2 goals and he didn't assist or score any of them.

For me, with team values alot higher than at the start of the season he is one of the best options in defense.

True, i'm probably being silly. But his attacking points from open play have still diminished, still a good choice though 🙂

    GW33

    Vorm
    Kompany, Evans, Vermaelen
    Walcott, Valencia, Bale, Siggy
    Cisse, RVP, Rooney

    Mignolet, McClean, Raylor, Enrique

This would be my team if I do Senderos > Kompany, is this the right move and who do I captain?

my PROVISIONAL GW 36 team is

    KRUL

    TERRY / KABUL / Caulker

    Walcott / Valencia / BALE / VDV(C)

    JELAVIC / Rvp / SUAREZ

IMO yes all this trying to get 11 in for both gw is difficult, and ends up messin with the fabric of your team. A lot of guys will end up with 2/3 hits to do it and the returns might just not meet their expectations. I'm hoping to end up 9/9 with no more than 1 hit each week.

9/9 is a nice mix. If GW36 was like GW34 with missing games then 11/11 would be more important. Quality over quantity every time.

The England team i'd like to see at Euro'12:

    Hart
    Richards Cahill Terry Cole
    Walcott Gerrard Parker Young
    Rooney Welbeck

4-3-3 just doesn't work for England. Parker playing deep will allow Gerrard to play high up the pitch.

      Yak... Easy.

But, if you were to play the yak, and go for 4 in midfield the who would you drop Oliver?

      Now there's a question... 😉

Me too light speed. That's why I asked.

I also have Siggy on bench at the Mo but I am not too comfortable with it.

Not at all Evs. Just don't see how I can bench anyone else based on form and fixtures.

My logic is benching the player from the lesser team. Particularly as QPR are fighting for their lives.

Originally I had demps benched... That swiftly changed now he is playing up top again.

Seems like a lousy gw this one. However I think that is the case for most of those who are planning to manage 34-36 without extra transfers. So hopefully a payback is coming

Do I need to be concerned about Enrique being subbed off yest? Didn't see highlights... was he having a shocker and thus gonna lose his starting place? Was gonna stick with him for coming gws despite liverpool being rubbish lately, but not sure now....

If I were you I would ditch anything to do with Liverpool. They will be prioritising the FA Cup, that is for sure as no chance of getting into CL.

          Liverpool are toxic

Whom do you reckon will be the best scoring defender from gw33 to gw35? I really need to get rid of Senderos/Skertel. Cost isn't an issue, unless it's baines.

Wheater gives you 2 double game weeks! But then again, he plays for Bolton. I'm struggling with this too. Honestly think a Sunderland defender might not be a bad idea.

what's the best GW34 to GW36 balance? Lots of people seem to have 11 for GW34 but surely this means big points hits for GW36?

Depends on the 4 benched in GW34. You can get 7 DGW players for free in GW36 by saving a transfer in GW34.

I think the double gw is being overhyped. Pretty sure there will be rotation galore going on for the attractive double game week teams i.e. Tottenham and Chelsea. I'd say Plump for 11 starters gw 34 if you can and just do normal transfers for gw36

Exactly, at least thinking that it would be worth to play 34 with less than 11 and concentrating on doubles is rubbish

Nah, there will be little rotation for both Tottenham and Chelsea even if they are in FA cup final. The race for the 4th spot is gonna be tight.

Yes. It's important to remember that the amount of games over the period from 34 to 36 balances out.

I would continue to play fixtures and max out as much as possible without points hits and more importantly knackering your team for the final run.

Avoid hits....But I had say gw36 could be crucial as I do not see the race for the 4th spot ending. That means Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle all field their best players for both matches.
