How to handle FPL bandwagons in early Gameweeks

The latest episode of the Scoutcast is about to start on our YouTube channel.

You can watch the show from 8pm to 9pm BST.

This week, Joe is joined by Az and David to discuss the key Fantasy Premier League talking points ahead of Gameweek 3.

The next round of action is an important one for Fantasy managers as many will be wielding their two free transfers.

Already bandwagons have begun to form, so our Scoutcasters will be discussing how best to approach these.

Naturally, Teemu Pukki (£6.7m) is a prime example after he scored a hat-trick in Gameweek 2.

However, we will also be examining Liverpool assets after a lacklustre start to the season at both ends of the pitch.

    A) Rashford and Son + 0.6m
    B) Kane and Martial

Hard to say without watching how Kane and Son perform together and which player makes way for Son.

B for now. I would be comfortable captaining Kane but not Son or Rashford.

    Potential WC to this...

    Pope
    Mina, AWB, Lundstrom
    Ceballos, KDB, Sterling, Mane, Martial
    Pukki, Kane

No playing subs except Kelly - worth a gamble or not?

    1. Butcher

It looks good but you’ll need a better bench on a WC imo.

Where would you be happy to downgrade slightly?

A bit light on bench, maybe Ceballos to 4.5 mid and invest elsewhere. Or downgrade kane/kdb and spread it around

Doesn’t feel like a long term selection with that defence. Could be gold short term and if Emery isn’t Emery with Ceballos. Big ask

Give me your honest opinions... how is this lot looking given I am:
    1. Attempting to survive without Spurs vs NEW
    2. Hoping Robbo stays quiet after I jettisoned him to find my move
    3. Start the GW 8pts down (eek)

    Heaton
    VVD, Digne, Zinchenko, AWB
    Salah, Sterling (C), KDB, Martial
    Pukki, Jota
    (Button) (Lunds, Dendo, Greenwood)

Was trying to be a bit bolder early on but now I’m bricking it!

What’s wrong with it? It looks great and you are really well set up going forwards - don’t get why you’d be worried?

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Pretty much just Kane/ Son and Robbo punishing me

Oh and the fact that -8pts this early on is a significant rank deficit!

        1. TheDragon
          • 6 Years
          5 years, 2 months ago

Rank = irrelevant at this stage. A Lundstram start away from being 100k’s of places better it’s all fine.

You can’t own all of them. You’ll always want that midfield which means you would have to take cash out of defence and would have to be Robbo or VVD who goes

Son is an unknown coming back this week - his ownership will be very low.

Kane could cause some serious damage but nothing you or many others can do about that

own the hit/s, usually it's better long term (although Robertson is exactly the sort of player that can haunt you for the next 3 weeks, sorry) - definitely a solid team, esp if Sterling does well

I’m considering Robertson out which I hate but given the wealth of options in midfield currebtky realistically I’ll have to take cash out of defence at some point and Robbo is the obvious candidate

        1. Don Kloppeone
          • 7 Years

        Cheers

Don’t get me wrong I love how it looks but pressing the button to confirm -8pts including Robbo out and no Spurs made me throw up a little

Hopefully will gain a bit of value with this lot and can fairly easily get Spurs or Robbo/ TAA back in if needed over coming weeks

a lot of things can either work out well or backfire horribly in this game, can't have everyone, and it's a bit late to worry about it now 😀 GL

Yeh for sure. Especially last season I had a mad rollercoaster lurching from 29k to 329k and finishing around 54k. That was “playing it safe” mostly so was trying a more bullish approach

      What were the transfers?

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Wilson, Moura, Perez, Robbo > Pukki, KDB, Martial, AWB (-8)

        I know, I know...

I just never jumped on moves like this last season and tended to miss the parties and ended a mediocre 50k OR which I’d like to better

        1. TheDragon
          • 6 Years

I took a -8 last year in week 4 after getting it slightly wrong to start and it being a huge decision as prices were moving away from me quickly.

Was a game changer - had 15 green arrows and was top 1k by week 20, so it definitely can work

Can’t really argue with any of those but I would prob rather wc than take a -8 at this stage of season

I hear that. But I feel like 12+ is more WC territory and I’d like to have it available for a bit later on as I’m sure a ton will change

      Looks fine to me

Potential rough week but actually think Mo is captain of choice.

Worry is double 6.5 or so up top. Have Jota but his schedule is horrid - difficult to see where you go from him on this set up if he looks tired by EL

      1. Don Kloppeone
        • 7 Years
        5 years, 2 months ago

Yeh Jota was just less of a priority but he’s on the chopping block.

My tentative plan would be to try and hold FTs now for a couple in case I need to switch and get a Kane/ Auba on with 2FT

I've just read the article about using your 1st wildcard, and I feel the best time to use it is around now.

I'm thinking about making the following changes:

Out: Heaton, van Dijk, Walker-Peters, Salah, Barkley, Perez, King
In: Button, Digne, Wan-Bissaka, Mane, Martial, B. Silva, Greenwood

Can I have everyone's thoughts please? My other players are:

Pope, Zinchenko, Lundstram, Kelly, Sterling, Dendoncker, Kane, Kean

Surprised to see so many shipping TAA on a WC. 1 assist in two. Cleansheets will come. He's a defender who takes set pieces, for a team that will challenge for the title. He had a ridiculous end to the season, captain material even.

    A) Zinchenko (starting 2 of Lundstram/Dunk/Soyunku/Dendoncker)

    B) Mount (starting 2 of Lundstram/Dunk/Soyuncu/Kelly)

    C) Ceballos (starting 2 of Lundstram/Dunk/Soyunku/Pieters)

Currently on A due to city fixtures.

    Cheers.

Thoughts on Firmino as a pick? Still too expensive as an FPL asset? Looks good on the pitch, double Liverpool defence not worth it atm.

There’s just better picks for that price imo. Comparing him to KDB for example just isn’t a contest.

Think he's too expensive. Would have been interesting if fpl had made him a mill cheaper

Forwards go big or go cheap

No way. For 9.5 you get KDB and Pepe for 9.4, these are guys that are likely going above 200 pts.

Bobby maxes out at around 180, and that's in a season where everything goes his way.

You can get 170-180 from players priced around 7.5, we just didn't find them yet.

For 8.5 I'd consider him as a differential, and for 9.5 he doesn't exist in the game as far as I'm concerned.

      Thanks for the input lads!

For those wondering; Was tempted to get him in because my midfield's fixtures are looking good, a Liverpool slot opens up and I'm looking for C. Wilson replacement. Would get Pukki but those ahead of me have him as well.

    Potential WC to this...

    Pope
    Mina, AWB, Zinchenko
    Ceballos, KDB, Sterling, Salah, Martial
    Pukki, Rashford

Only playing subs are Kelly and Lundstram - does this team need Kane?

Depends on your team. Wc can be a great way to get ahead of the game and not be constantly fighting fires

Problem is at this stage of the season you can get multiple fires each week until things settle down

Exactly, it's almost never-ending. Your WC might look fine this week, but doesn't mean you won't be itching to xfer multiple players sooner than later.

Anyone watch Monday Night Football and see those stats about Everton being only behind Man City and level with Liverpool on preventing goals from open play last year.

Of course they conceded a lot more from set pieces than either of the other two.

Maybe food for thought when they play either a team that is good in the air or conversely one that isn’t.

Not sure how it matches up to other stats.

    Potential bargains down the line:

    9.4 Pepe
    8.9 Eriksen
    8.4 Alli
    7.9 B.Silva
    7.4 Fraser
    7.4 Ozil
    6.9 F.Anderson
    6.4 Deulofeu
    5.9 Alisson
    5.9 Barkley
    5.9 Doucoure

Nothing wrong with most of these, except that they didn't hit the ground running.

Pepe, Bilva, Alisson and Fraser could be golden. Ozil on my watchlist too.

Guys, I need some advice..in order to get Martial for Fraser, I need to downgrade Perez to
    A) Mount from Chelsea
    or
    B) McGinn from AVilla
    Any advice?

That’s tough as I think both are flash’s in the pan. Mount just because he plays in a better team

            • 5 Years

I personally prefer McGinn. He is more outstanding choice in Villa together with Grealish.
In Chelsea there are bunch of players that can shine a match or two, and then be silent, while still the team can win.
However, at the end of the day I end up with someone from a promoted team, over a top 4/6 competitor..
So a tough one for me.

Agreed...but still..Any other suggestions for the budget of 6.3 are also welcome. Maybe I'm missing something more obvious.

    How's this draft chaps?

    Pope
    Zinchenko, AWB, Lundstram, Dunk
    Mane, Sterling, KDB, Martial
    Kane, Pukki.

    (Button, Dendoncker, Soyuncu, Greenwood)

Lundstram/Dunk/Dendoncker/Soyuncu rotation looks decent for the next 4 weeks.
