Lanzini can provide cheaper route into West Ham attack

Now that the first international break of the season is out of the way, it’s time to make those all-important FPL decisions once again.

Differentials continue to play a part in that as we prepare for Gameweek 5.

Last time out there was more success for this column as David Silva delivered the goods with two nifty assists in Manchester City’s win over Brighton for a 10-point haul.

Is there another player with his quality waiting to be snapped up? Here are three low-owned players worth considering for Gameweek 5…

Manuel Lanzini

Lanzini has been West Ham’s most creative player so far this season

Price: £6.5m

Ownership: 3.3%

GW5 Opponent: Aston Villa (A)

It is no coincidence that West Ham’s attack struggled at times last season with Manuel Lanzini (£6.5m) sidelined by a long-term injury.

Now fully fit, the Argentinian has started all four of the Hammers league games since August.

For players priced at £6.5m or less, Lanzini is ranked joint seventh for final third touches (85). Due to his involvement with set pieces, he also averages 27 minutes for every chance created, which at present is better than the likes of Mason Mount (36 minutes) and Todd Cantwell (44 minutes).

With Sébastian Haller in-form up top, the expectation is for Lanzini to potentially increase his output of assists.

But he’s also more than capable of scoring, having netted 19 Premier League goals during his first three seasons for West Ham.

Dare I say it, is he a bandwagon waiting to happen? His next opponents are an Aston Villa team that have only kept one clean sheet this season having conceded more shots than any other side so far.

West Ham will relish such an encounter considering their recent goal-scoring run and without a doubt, Lanzini should be key to their attack on Monday night.

Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min (right) has been an overlooked Spurs asset after the first four Gameweeks

Price: £9.5m

Ownership: 2.7%

GW5 Opponent: Crystal Palace (H)

It’s surprising to think that a player with 38 goals and 25 assists over the last three Premier League seasons is owned by only a handful of Fantasy managers right now.

Then again, Son Heung-min (£9.5m) was suspended for the first two games of the campaign.

Tottenham have had a mixed and unsettled start to 2019/20. Son’s absence did not prevent them from scoring goals in their opening two matches but they certainly missed his energy up top.

Since his return to first-team action, he has already registered eight shots on goal, four of which were on target.

Son’s assist in Gameweek 4, winning a penalty for his team, could be an indication of what is to come.

He hasn’t scored so far, but based on his pedigree it won’t be long until he finds the back of the net again.

Tottenham’s next Premier League opponents are Crystal Palace and Son has scored three goals in five competitive games against them.

Having said that, he was playing in a World Cup qualifier in Central Asia on Tuesday night which could put him at a slight risk of rotation for Gameweek 5.

After all, Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t been afraid on occasion to bench the South Korean immediately after previous international breaks.

That’s the only concern with buying Son right now. But can Tottenham afford any more slip-ups? If he’s fully fit I see no reason why he won’t start on Saturday.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings has two attacking returns to his name so far this season

Price: £6.0m

Ownership: 2.2%

GW5 Opponent: Sheffield United (A)

It’s fair to say that there’s not been a strong collective desire to buy Southampton’s players over the past two seasons.

They are no longer a source of reliable clean sheets and it has also been hard to trust their attacking assets either.

The Saints’ fixtures since August haven’t exactly helped their cause either, having faced Liverpool and Manchester United in short succession.

In spite of these challenges. Danny Ings (£6.0m) has scored a goal and chipped in with an assist.

The forward has started three games so far and for forwards priced at £6.0m or less he has played the fifth-highest amount of minutes since Gameweek 1.

Of course, Ings hasn’t been playing 90 minutes per game regularly since 2015 as a result of serious injuries and squad management.

But last season he averaged a Fantasy return (goal or assist) for every 165 minutes played. That’s fairly commendable for a cheap priced and low owned player.

Having said that, Che Adams will certainly give him competition up top, but he has yet to score or assist in the Premier League and has also missed more big chances than any other player so far.

Southampton next face a Sheffield United team that has conceded four goals in their last two games which bodes well for Ings as he seeks to add to his goal-scoring tally.

Injured: Laporte(Out 5/6 month), Martial(Out this game), AWB(probably out too)

Pompey Reading is currently the highest scoring game in PL history (7-4)

Could Norwich Man City go one better this weekend?

Norwich aren't exactly tight at the back, but are quite dangerous going forward on their day...

Man city are lethal up front, but Laporte less, and could have Stones & Ota centre backs...

    8-4 perhaps??

Trolling lol - I can 100% sure you this is not - I've never seen someone so sensitive at the mention of Man city's defence 🙂

If I remember correctly you were similarly dismissive of the Siggy stats 😉

I always claimed Siggy was overpriced and never had him in my team which seems spot on. Not sure what stats you are talking about.

The only thing Ive disagreed with you before is that you say Auba is a non pick because of minutes played last season while simultaneously claiming Sterling is essential. They played roughly the same minutes. Another example of you making up your opinion first and then cherry picking stats that fit your preconceived opinion. A dishonest use of statistics.

Hmmm.... I actually said Auba was not a player I s interested in due to his psychopathic fraud of a manager, did you interpret that as minutes?

The Siggy stats were that he blanked in 23 of 38 games last season, missed 4 of his last 7 pens, got 0G 0A last season in his equivalent of his 5 opening fixtures so his owners would need PATIENCE... This seemed to provoke aother hilarious emotive response from your good self... The sensitivity is real eh 😉

On the plus side at least you haven't embarrassed yourself by playing the 'knobhead' card this time... Yet 😉

8 goal thriller at Norwich then?? Or 0-0 bore fest?? Who knows!

Hmmmm... Whilst this latest contribution you have decided to bless us with is admittedly of a characteristically weak standard, it’s interesting that it was presented in a thread where you didn’t seem to have any frame of reference... other than the fact that it was started by yours truly... anyone would think you were... what’s the word? Obsessed? Fixated? Stalking? 😉

Whatever you want to call it - in the immortal words of Jules Winnfield ‘Allow me to retort’ 🙂

“Unfortunately he knows absolutely everything and everyone else is wrong”

''Pointless trying to debate anything with him as he is always right and always will have the last word.''

As I explained to you the other day - it’s important to challenge viewpoints that we don't agree with - its in this way that we gain a better understanding of the world around us.

The alternative is to sit in silence, to bottle up that bit of cognitive dissonance created when someone has made a comment that you either don't agree with, or don't understand.

It’s much better to say why you disagree, or what you don't understand, and discuss that with the person, rather than to remain mute, bottling up that dissonance and letting it fester into negativity.

It’s entirely possible that had you had taken this approach more throughout your life you wouldn't be as bitter and twisted as you now come across

🙂 Technical difficulties - chopped off the last part of my response :

For example being cited today alone for bullying, stalking and racism by the three separate posters on three separate occasions, in a 12 hour period - that's quite the record - a true paragon of virtue 🙂

Anyways, hopefully you can get through this tough period that seems to be taking such a toll on you dear friend

And who knows, if you can take on board some of these learnings you may emerge all the better for it - looking forward to your next contribution 😉

In an unfortunately predictable fashion, you failed to engage your brain, limited though it appears to be, before posting another typically dull comment...

...And in doing so managed to have your post construed as casual racism by not one, but two fellow posters (neither of whom were me by the way, but both of whom called you on it in the thread linked)

Hence my original point - you were accused of bullying, stalking and racism in a 12 hour period, on three separate occasions, by three separate posters...

Try to count to 10, take a deep breath, and engage brain before fingers in future, it might help reduce he chances of embarrassing yourself as much as you currently seem intent on 😉

In your usual unfortunately predictable fashion you either ignore or deliberately misinterpret dialogue to suit your own argument and follow it up with an unfortunately predictable dull insult lacking any intelligence. I also mentioned you construing an accusation of racism ( this didn't accuse you making the accusation ) which again you have twisted now to " casual racism" . Pointless engaging in any discussion whatsoever with you as you constantly twist wordings in the likelihood that in your tiny mind it endorses your belief that you are correct.
And even more predicatable you end with patronising nonsense.
I just won't bother attempting to discuss anything with you in future as you have yet again proved this to be a pointless exercise. No doubt the final word will be yours but I won't waste my time bothering to read it.

You are contradicting yourself hilariously as usual, what have we said about all his anger being detrimental to you? 🙂

                        - “Pointless engaging in any discussion whatsoever with you as you constantly twist wordings in the likelihood that in your tiny mind it endorses your belief that you are correct.” he says, in a sub thread he created by popping into a discussion with no frame of reference, 5 hours after the fact, to whinge about someone else ‘always having the last word’ 🙂

                        - “I just won't bother attempting to discuss anything with you in future as you have yet again proved this to be a pointless exercise.” I seem to remember hearing similar a while ago, yet you keep coming back for more, you just can’t help yourself it seems, like the moth to a flame, or the punch drunk boxer who keeps stumbling into the left hook, it really does appear to be classic Darwinism in action 😉

Now I feel like ignoring Aguero is ridiculous on WC. Which of these is a better idea pls

      A) Aguero + Pepe + Dendoncker (bench fodder)

      B) Auba + KDB + Cantwell (bench fodder)

For a 4 point hit would you do:
Robertson and Perez > Soyuncu and KdB?

      Laporte to TAA or Otamendi?
      I have VVD...
TAA obviously higher ceiling, but with 1.7m between them, is it better to go with the value player?
(Perez goes next week, already have 1.5itb)

      Heaton
      VVD Digne Laporte Soyuncu Lundstram
      Salah Sterling KDB Mount
      Pukki

      Perez Greenwood Wickham

Must be used by +1 day after the game week, can't be used weeks / months in arrears.

Think I'm starting to lean towards F.Anderson over Lanzini

Average per game (Anderson avg. 77 minutes vs Lanzini avg. 89):
      - Higher xGI
      - More attempts (total and in box)
      - More penalty area touches
      - More BIG chances created
      - Similar BBPS (F.Anderson higher last 2 when he's played the whole games but Lanzini slightly better over the full season)

Lanzini has corners in his locker and looks great, 0,3 cheaper too but F.Anderson looks great in underlying stats IMO

      What are your thoughts?

I'm all set. Good luck lads.

      Ryan
      Robertson, van Dijk, Digne, Lundstram
Salah, Sterling (c), De Bruyne, Lanzini, Ceballos
      Barnes

      Button; Pukki, Greenwood, Rico.

      Hi guys

      Best replacement for Trossard ?
      A) James
      B) Maddison
      C) Lanzini

      My squad for this GW:
      1.5 itb
      Pope
      Zinchenko/Digne/Robertson
      Salah(c)/Sterling/Siggy/Mount/ Trossard*
      Pukki/Jota

      Bench: Heaton/Lundstram/Montoya/Greenwood

Of those, Maddison. I think Iwobi at 5.9 is a great option too which would leave you money to alter other areas.

In two minds whether to wildcard or not. Is this worth it?

      Current: 1FT & 0.6ITB
      Pope, Heaton
      TAA, Robertson, Zinchenko, Coleman, Maguire
      Salah, Sterling, Martial, Cantwell, Dendoncker
      Haller, Jota, Greenwell

      Wildcard: 0.0ITB
      Pope, Button
      TAA, VVD, Otamendi, Soyuncu, Kelly
      Salah, Sterling, KDB, Iwobi, Dendoncker
      Haller, Pukki, 4.4

I'd probably keep VVD for this week then switch to Digne.

Yeah, I might just use a transfer or two to fix things. I think I've got KDB in my head and its swaying me towards a wildcard.
