Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 6?

It feels like 2017/18 all over again when it comes to Fantasy Premier League captaincy decisions right now.

It was back in the good-old days where we were faced with a choice between Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) and Harry Kane (£10.8m) ahead of a new Gameweek – and yet here we are in 2020, with the two sides impressing themselves on the latest debate for the armband.

The Captain Sensible article is back once again to help you pick the right option for the armband, using key underlying statistics for player form and the defences of their upcoming opponents.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) is leading this week’s Captain Poll as he is backed by half of our voters, specifically 48.5% The in-form Liverpool midfielder is facing Sheffield United in Gameweek 6, who are yet to win a Premier League game this season, with four defeats and one draw.

Meanwhile, nobody has recorded as many goal involvements in the opening five matches of the season as Harry Kane (£10.8m), who already has five goals, seven assists and 60 points.

The Tottenham striker also faces an out-of-form team on Monday, as Burnley are still looking for their first league victory of the season (three defeats, one draw).

Kane currently sits second in the Captain Poll, with nearly 20.0% of our users backing the Englishman.

Behind Kane, his counterpart Son Heung-min (£9.4m, 6.5% of votes), Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish (£7.2m, 5.0%) and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling (£11.6m, 3.0% of votes) remain as the outside picks this week.

Once again, using some underlying data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area and combining the poll results, current form and analysis of the opposition, we are going to try to pick the best captain for Gameweek 6.

Just gonna say it now so I don't get flamed for excuses later:

Harry Kane is the obvious captain choice: form, fixture, swagger, everything. Don't understand how people could own him yet not give him the armbdand this GW of all... smh

It's not that controversial that you think the guy second in the captain poll is deserving of being one spot better really

Yeahh I’m just saying it’s shocking he’s second when he’s the obvious choice, we’ll see the difference in points between him and Mo and you’ll understand what I mean

If I owned him, I probably would captain him.
The difference this week is that most premium players have a decent fixture.

I’m in Kane(c) too but Salah is equally good pick since SHU are having issues

He's been my Captain last two GWs and saved me big times in my leagues where nobody has him. I owe him a third in a row.

You could just as easily argue that Salah is the 'obvious' choice considering he has scored more PL goals this season, is playing against an equally poor team but at home, and also arguably has a stronger proven track record.

Not saying either is correct as they're both fine options, but it's not really that clear cut either way.

      1. Ibralicious

Yes but that’s because Salah isn’t the obvious choice at all. With all the stats, fixture, and magnitude considered, it’s pretty clear cut that Kane is the front runner here.

Not to mention he has scored or assisted atleast once in 4 of the last 5 meetings against burnley. The only 1 he didn't was when he was injured and the only goal scored by spurs was a penalty by alli (so would have been kane if on the field)

I was planing to do Barnes->J.Rod, but it doesn't look good now.
Should I just keep FT or sell Barnes for someone else? I really don't want him anymore, and I can get J.Rod for Zaha later

    Zaha-Barnes-Salah-Son-Hendrick

    Barnes ->? 10.1 max
    a) Grealish
    b) Pulisic/Havertz
    c) Mahrez???

What’s the rest of your team? Do you have Kane? In isolation they all look good options and an upgrade on Barnes.

Yup. Kane upfront and terrible defence.

        Guaita-Pickford
        Lamptey-James-Justin-Saiss-Mitchel
        Zaha-Barnes-Salah-Son-Hendrick
        Kane-DCL-Bamford

Grealish is the guy I now want the most.

Grealish is a pretty solid option at his price and if playing Mahrez is good, especially as he’s now on a lot of set pieces. I also have a feeling Havertz is going to be a really good option. Sorry not much help - all good moves!

    Best VVD replacement?

    A) Lamptey (4.8 max)
    B) Saiss
    C) Reguilón
    D) Chilwell
    E) Digne

    A) means I can afford Jimenez -> Aguero

    McCarthy
    TAA, Bellerin, VVD*
    Salah, Son, Foden, Barkley

We know Pep, how he hides true info on the status. But I would want one Chelsea next game onwards.

Loads of people falling into the Kane (c) trap.

You just know he ends up blanking and coming off after 27 mins after being battered by Tarkowski.

I think this. Just look at Salahs shotmap vs last 2 seasons. He doesn't get far info the box and not in the six yard box. Kane is the exact opposite

The amount of touches really doesn't matter much if the two touches you get are tap ins. That's my thinking...

Save the trade. Bissouma’s a decent enough sub. That said, if you don’t want James back, by all means sell him.

Mitchell has been a liability recently. Lucky not to get red carded last game.

Lamptey has a decent chance of points at both ends of the pitch against arguably the worst defence in the league.

Even though they’re up against Fulham, Palace are goal shy - I see only potential points at one end of the pitch for Mitchell.

Morning dzz, cant decide whether to get rid of Kdb or Havertz for Salah. Best combo for next few gw's? Already have Son

    A: Barnes + Havertz + Jimmy
    B: Barnes + Havertz + Kane (-4)
    C: Barkley + KDB + Jimmy (-4)

    A. Fernandes + 4.5 defender (Dallas/Taylor/Justin-rotation)

    B. Havertz/Pulisic + Chillwell ?

One solution could be to get B for Chelsea’s GW 7-9 fixtures: bur, SHU, new...and after that A. But Bruno is a machine, so involved in everything United do...what to do?

    Thoughts?

    Martinez
    Dias, Targett, Lamptey
    Salah, mane, Son, Grealish, Lookman
    Dominic, Kane

    Bench: Cresswell, Brewster

Dont judge Lookman and Dias, they are my punts. Others can be changed 😉

Bruno, Barkley, Robertson instead of Mane, Grealish, Lamptey is an option

    Martínez (Forster)
    Alexander-Arnold, Chilwell, Saïss, (Lamptey) (Mitchell)
    Grealish, Salah, Podence, Son (Burke)
    Watkins, Jiménez, Calvert-Lewin

    1 FT, 5.5 in bank.
