The best Southampton players to consider for FPL Double Gameweek 25

Southampton come under the spotlight as we end our team-by-team look at the clubs with two fixtures in Double Gameweek 25.

After a strong start to the season, the Saints have completely fallen off a cliff, losing their last six games and conceding 20 goals.

As a result, Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are choosing not to gamble on Saints assets, even with two games in Double Gameweek 25.

So is there anything to suggest Southampton could turn it around in Double Gameweek 25? We assess their FPL credentials in the Premium Members article below

THE FORM

Having started the season in fine form, the Saints hit the skids after a number of injuries to key personnel, particularly in defence.

After beating champions Liverpool, the Saints have lost their last six games by an aggregate score of 20-4.

What was once one of the league’s most solid defences is now the worst according to expected goals conceded (xGC) over the last six games.

Last six matches

The problem can’t just be laid at the door of injuries though.

In the south coast club’s last game against Wolves, they fielded arguably their first choice back-line, and still conceded two goals against one of the most goal-shy attacks in the league.

So can we rely on Southampton assets in Double Gameweek 25? To answer that question in more detail we will have to consider their upcoming opponents and the data behind their key players…

Really difficult as you get into top 100k as teams are identical near enough just need good captains, good plans and some luck. Aim for top 50k and see how it goes

Well its tough. Im juggling the Doubles with the Blank. So im currently on this. Not really going for any punts bar Alonso. Just think he’s due a haul. This is for the double where ill BB.

        Areloa
        Burn Alonso Struijk
        Salah Bruno Grealish Raphina Gundo
        Kane Bamford (C)
        martinez watkins dias rudiger

Probably Raph > Barnes for the double.

What’s your best bench score so far this season?

    GW23 - 20pts (should’ve played BB - Foden 16pts mainly)

16 in GW19 from Saka (9), ESR (6) and McCarthy (1). Most of the season I've not had a large enough bench to get big scores, often not even enough get XI out. My own fault, mostly.

From game week 12 to game week 19 I achieved a combined total of 3 points. In the following 5 weeks I have bundled together 72 points; with the crescendoing areola being 26 points. I’m a touch of class.

Until 20 all my bench scores of 9 or more (6 of them) were Soucek driven.

Otherwise highest is 20 in GW23 as well - DCL the culprit. Also benched Bamford in 21 for 15 points but he was my only returner.

Is there an argument for Ederson on WC? He is the best value and highest returning City defender and the only one who's pretty much certain to get all the doubles.

You lose Martinez of course but after 30 he's likely to need save points and baps to keep pace. And well Ederson and Targett say may well return better than Martinez and Dias/Cancelo given extra appearances in DGWs.

I just think his value isn't far enough distinct fromt he replacement players (particularly Martinez) to justify losing another City spot where there are likely to be multiple players who are MORE more valuable than their replacement options at any given time.

Just be nice to have a city player that you don’t need to worry about. Plus his ceiling is 7 points, unless he can get more mad assists.

Considering trying to make it work going from Pope to him while keeping Martinez. Will be hard though with Salah still returning despite Liverpool's form, KDB and Kane back, Bruno being very hard to drop, etc. That extra 1-1.5 spare on a second keeper makes a big difference.

Yes but a leg can fall off or an eye pop out at any time. Probably worth the risk this week though.

Lads in thinking Raphinia and Ings in for Sterling and Watkins for a hit .
    Martinez
    Dallas Stones Shaw
    Gundogan Son Bruno Raphinia
    Bamford Kane Ings

    Mee Grealish Coufal

Or just Sterling to Raph and play Mee in a 442.
    Thoughts.

    Captian

    A. Bamford

    C. Raphinha
    D. Dallas
    E. Salah
    F. Bruno

A first then C. Rare treat to be able to captain a player that plays in the first and last match of a GW!

    Martinez Forster
    Mee Lowton Stones Cancelo Mitchell
    Grealish Salah Bruno Son Gundogan
    DCL Bamford Antonio

    1) WC now & BB dgw26
    2) use FT/Hits & BB

    if 1)
    Martinez McCarthy
    Rudigar Lowton Stones Dier Shaw
    Grealish Salah Bruno Son Gundogan
    Kane Bamford Watkins

    if 2) for -4 1.9m itb
    Martinez McCarthy
    Mee Lowton Stones Cancelo Shaw
    Grealish Salah Bruno Son Gundogan
    DCL Bamford Watkins

Basically is it worth sacrificing Cancelo in WC to get Kane in?

Which option would you go for?

    A. Holding to Struijk
    B. Antonio to Ings in 25 and Ings to Kane in 26

    Plan to TC26, WC30/31, FH33

    2FT 5.7itb
    Pope
    Cancelo Stones Digne
    Salah Bruno Gundo Raphinha
    Bamford Antonio DCL
    (Martinez Soucek Cresswell Holding)

    Pope (Martinez)
    Cancelo, Stones, Dallas (Coufal, Douglas)
    Salah, Bruno, Son, Gundogan, Grealish
    DCL, Bamford (Antonio)

With 2FT + 3.6 itb and plans to bring in Kane for GW26 what should I do?

    A) Antonio > Ings (just for DGW25)
    B) Douglas > Veltman (deepens my bench and provides player for GW29)

    Martinez Johnstone

    Stones Coufal Dias Dallas Mee

    Fernandes Salah Rashford Gundogan Saka***

    DCL Watkins Ings

0.2 ITB BB/TC left No FTs

    Any ideas would be welcomed

Raph and Bamford for GW25 then out for a hit in 26, then probably one of them back for 29.
