The best strikers for Sky Fantasy Football before Overhaul

Fantasy Football Scout are bringing you even more content on Sky Sports Fantasy Football this season.

Having made our way through the best goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders, we now set our sights on the strikers to target before the post-Gameweek 3 Overhaul.

SIGN UP TO SKY SPORTS FANTASY FOOTBALL HERE

Don’t forget to check out our team reveals below from two elite Sky managers, Luke Williams and Niall Murphy, who also provide some general tips on how to play the game.

BEST FORWARDS FOR SKY

Mohamed Salah (£11.9m) is currently the most-selected forward in the game at over 41%. That is no surprise given Liverpool’s fixture list, with the Egyptian a stand-out captaincy option against Norwich (a) and Burnley (H) in the first two Gameweeks. Salah is also a man of the match candidate in any fixture he plays and a prolific accumulator of shot bonus; while all those missed chances might be infuriating in FPL, there is at least the compensation of the shots on target bonus in Sky.

Diogo Jota‘s (£9.4m) impressive per 90 stats and likelihood of starting in Gameweek 1 at the very least make him an intriguing differential option to the Egyptian, meanwhile.

Harry Kane (£12.0m) is some distance behind Salah, sitting in 29% of teams. The rumours over his future persist and there are suggestions he could miss Gameweek 1 anyway due to international exertions, so perhaps he’s more one for the Overhaul in the international break or at least an early-season transfer to ponder for Wolves and Watford. Only Kane (six) hit tier 2 shots bonus more often than Salah (five) last season.

The uncertainty around Kane could lead those who want a Spurs attacker to simply go for Son Heung-min (£10.8m), save a transfer and revisit the striker situation in the Overhaul period. The Korean is currently owned by just 11.9% of managers, with his aversion to bonus points – just 16 in 2020/21 – a possible reason for that. But 17 goals and 10 assists, plus a strong pre-season and a possible ‘out of position’ tag, have put him well into the premium bracket this season.

The midfielders to target before the Sky fantasy football overhaul

Ollie Watkins‘ (£9.2m) ownership is dwindling, despite a kind run of three games for Aston Villa. A pre-season injury and the Villans’ move for Danny Ings (£9.1m) has dented his appeal, with the ex-Southampton striker perhaps now the more attractive proposition. Ings hit double figures for tier 1 shooting bonus last season but struggled to convert those to tier 2, although the extra creativity behind him at his new club could boost those totals.

New man Ivan Toney (£7.9m) is just behind Watkins in ownership terms. The Brentford forward is set to be one of the top armband options for Arsenal’s visit on Matchday 1 of Gameweek 1, a single captaincy day. Given that the unremarkable names of Jordan Ayew (£7.9m) and Michy Batshuayi (£7.7m) are at this price point, Toney’s starting cost does seem a bit of a steal given his talismanic status and fondness for a shot.

Pre-season concerns around a number of pre-season Fantasy strikers could also see Michail Antonio (£8.8m) up his ownership figure of 9.6%. West Ham welcome Leicester to the London Stadium in a single-fixture day on the Monday of Gameweek 2, while Antonio could also be the most-captained player on Matchday 3 of Gameweek 1 when the Hammers play Newcastle. He also presents a Gameweek 3 armband option at home to Crystal Palace.

The Magpies’ penalty-taker Callum Wilson (£8.7m) could be an interesting mid-price option. Wilson managed 12 goals and five assists in 23 starts over the previous campaign and while bonus points didn’t flow too often, Newcastle turned to a more attacking style towards the end of last season – something that could up his shot bonus potential.

Kelechi Iheanacho‘s (£9.1m) prospects of starting in Gameweek 1 grow dimmer by the day so for those of us who love their ‘nailed’ forwards, Patrick Bamford (£9.5m) warrants more than a mention.

Last season’s third highest-scoring forward, the Leeds man started 37 of the Whites’ 38 league games (only being benched on the final day).

He was third only to Kane and Salah for shots on target among Sky strikers in the Premier League last season.

he's their best right back but Bruce has messed around with Jacob Murphy at right wing back in another system. for some reason he also rates Krafth who by all accounts of all newcastle fans I know and what i've seen of him is awful. so to answer ur question it depends on whether Bruce plays 4 atb and plays his best right back which I can't actually answer. I wouldn't be relying on him to be nailed in my team every week put it that way.

    Romero priced at 5.0
That's a decent price actually, not that I'm considering the Spuds defence just yet.

    Good to go?

    Sanchez - Foster
    TAA - Cash - White - Amartey - Omabamidele
    Salah - Bruno - Jota - Greenwood - Barnes
    Ings - Antonio - Obafemi

    Plan is -

GW 2 - Jota or Greenwood > Gundogan
    GW 3 - Save FT
    GW 4 - Ings + Cash > Jimenez + Semedo

    Not thinking beyond that.

    Thoughts? 🙂

a lot of planned transfers and 0 bench depth, any injuries or unexpected rotation and its hit central. I do like most/all of ur picks though and the structure is okay. I would just be prepared to be more flexible as its unlikely for a 3 week plan worth of transfers to fall perfectly into place.

        Cheers.

All of Amartey, Omabamidele and Obafemi are likely starters for the foreseeable. Ings > Jimenez would give me a 0.5 to upgrade one of the defenders to 4.5

I dont think thats totally true. Adam Armstrong from Blackburn seems to be nearing completion of a move to southampton so that rules Obafemi out. Amartey won't be nailed as soon as a defender returns which is a guessing game but i'll agree for 3 gameweeks and similar with Omabamidele he's not first choice. Ings > Jiminez I really like in GW4 as u've planned but not from the off. I would personally rather downgrade Greenwood/Barnes to be honest.

3-5-2 from the off, yeah? I've been on 3-4-3 for the past number of weeks, but am seriously tempted to go with the former.

        I tried that

But no rotation look good to me.

Amartey covers gw 2 and 3 when White will be benched.

Then ings > Jimenez will give me 0.5m to upgrade one of the 4m defs to 4.5

Right guys, here’s my first draft. It’s only for the first 3 weeks as per usual. Feel I’ve got good cover even if the Deliveroo cheap players are benched.

    Sanchez Virginia

    Salah Bruno Gundo Raph Baah
    Wilson Antonio Ings

I know Virginia is a non-entity, but if it matters to you he'd be 3rd choice behind Begovic now.

I personally don't like 2 x 4.0 defence, but may be okay to start.

what do people think about saint maximum as an option? He is registered as a forward this year and costs 6.5. I am looking at a 6.5 forward besides Toney and he pops out as an option. He is a really fun player to watch, but not always efficient

fair shout, willock overperformed his xG quite a bit last season, but still got a xG90 of 0,44 according to understat. Think he might be a good option, but will he be available in GW 1? Not sure

In at least the short term, best 4m defenders are Tsimikas and Amartey because there's a route to playing time for decent teams. Longer term I am keeping an eye on Brandon Williams to see if he goes out on loan to a team where he will get regular play. Southampton just took on a loanee from Chelsea who might amount to something.

Best 4.5m to me is Gilmour. Playing time and upside. At worst he's a regular 2 points a week security blanket on the end of the bench. Some early interviews suggest that the might be asked to be a bit more involved in the offense than he showed at Chelsea. I'll let some Brownhill supporter make the case for him. I'm open to be convinced as well.

To me, yes. So many latecomers back to City camp and KDB ruled out with injury. There's a spot behind the front three with his name on it.

Anyone considered the risk of going with 2 goalies from the same team (eg 4.5 & 4.0)? Im thinking cancelled games due to Covid. Less likely to happen going forward?

I think it's pretty unlikely but you never know, I think as risks go it's a pretty small one, chances are your 4.0 won't play either way so only way to spread the risk is 2 x 4.5 from different teams

Unlikely to be any playing 4.0 GKs anyway. So even if your keeper's game is cancelled, it's unlikely your 4.0 gk would be playing.
If you're set on 4.5 and 4.0, best to at least cover the eventuality of GK injury.

If a game does get cancelled and you have no keeper it's not the end of the world.

Isn't there some injury doubt hovering over Buendia? Don't quote me on that, but there's been a buzz on the board.

Outside of Salah, TAA and Coufal there is probably a reason not to take these player on.
I have 2 subs in Sarr and Dunk which ties up 2.5 mil that could be spent elsewhere and 1 mil ITB too.

Tell me a way to spend the 3.5 on hand pls.
    Martinez
    TAA Coufal Cancelo Shaw
    Jota Salah Raphina Mahrez
    Ings Toney
    Foster/ Dunk/ Sarr/ Obafemi.
Don't like Toney much and I will want Son by GW3

Apparently, Southampton are bringing in Adam Armstrong. Can anyone who's seen him play for Blackburn lately comment on how good he is?.

Quick poll as my head is rather mashed
    1. Which Liverpool 3?
    2. Which 7.5 mid?
    3. Which 7.5 striker?
    4. Bruno + other (7.0) or Son + Mahrez

I went Greenwood to allow for 2 Liverpool spots in defence but would go jota all other things being equal

Agree with this. Greenwood will get more minutes and probably be up front for the first game. Jota might play the first 2 but then will be a team after waiting to happen

    Serious question
Why no love for Sterling here - he’s not in any drafts.
    I know - rotation.
    But:
Best team in the league; Jesus/Kun gone or on the way out; Torres and Mahrez poor last weekend; great Euros; might come back firing.
    Huge differential?

Think just the fact he'd have to replace Salah or Fernandes, both of whom are way more reliable and tend to score more points?

People are theorising he's one of the 4 that want to leave. Played very, very little at the end of last season and Grealish has played LW more often than not before so he might be direct threat unless he's wanted to play in an 8 or 10 role.

You are far braver than I am if you're considering starting an 11.0 asset who has zero preseason minutes.

As a City fan, I was happy to read that the club is re-opening discussions with him about a contract extension, but I don't know about leaning on him for week one. Wait for Pep's presser, but I feel like there's better places to park the money for the first week or two at least.

I wouldn't put a ton of stock into Saturday's game unless you want to reach a general conclusion that the season is starting too soon for City to be firing on all cylinders.

All fair points and - yeah - he’s not in my GW1 plans. Too early. But if he settles back and there’s no Kane arrival…who knows.

Think I've nailed it finally, any issues with the following?

    Bachmann
    White/TAA/Coufal/Dunk (Amartey)
    Son/Salah/Fernandes/Willock (Brownhill)
    Bamford/Ings (Davis)
