FPL Gameweek 2 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Romelu Lukaku (£11.5m) opened his account for Chelsea and Mason Greenwood (£7.5m) scored his second goal of the season on a busy Sunday of Premier League football.

However, it was a day to forget for those who handed Bruno Fernandes (£12.1m) the armband, as the Portuguese returned a solitary Fantasy Premier League (FPL) point at Southampton.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS AND PROJECTED BONUS

KEY FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Paul Pogba (£7.6m) provided another assist, his fifth of the season, as he continued in an advanced role at St. Mary’s Stadium. In fact, no player on the pitch had more penalty area touches (9) than the Frenchman today.
  • Budget defender Tino Livramento (£4.0m) started again for Southampton, keeping Kyle Walker-Peters (£5.0m) on the bench. Encouragingly for his owners, Walker-Peters replaced left-back Romain Perraud (£5.0m) on 82 minutes, with the former Chelsea man seeing out the full 90 ahead of next week’s visit to Newcastle United.
  • Dele Alli (£6.5m) scored his first league goal in 17 months as Nuno Espirito Santo made a winning return to Molinuex. Surprisingly, it came from the penalty spot, having won it himself after being brought down by Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jose Sa (£5.0m). With Harry Kane (£12.4m) arriving off the bench in the second-half, it’s debatable exactly how important this development actually is, but it’s certainly something worth monitoring in the coming weeks.
  • It is now back-to-back clean sheets for Spurs, with Hugo Lloris (£5.5m) collected maximum bonus on both occasions. The Frenchman has already made 10 saves this season, a total no other goalkeeper can beat.
  • Despite two losses on the bounce for Wolves, today’s performance was encouraging, with Nelson Semedo (£5.0m) particularly lively in the final-third. However, his return to Bruno Lage’s starting XI meant that £4.0m option, Ki-Jana Hoever, dropped to the bench.
  • Reece James‘ (£5.5m) 18-point FPL haul was the biggest of his career to date, with Thomas Tuchel confirming after the match that the wing-back was fine after his collision with Nuno Taveres (£4.5m).
  • Lukaku marked his return to Chelsea with a goal after just 15 minutes and went to to register eight shots, with seven of those arriving in the box. Next up for the Belgian is Liverpool (a), Aston Villa (h) and Spurs (a).
  • Spurs and Chelsea joined Brentford and Liverpool as the only sides with two Premier League clean sheets to their name so far this season.

INJURY WATCH

Son Heung-min (£10.0m) left the pre-match warm up prematurely, but came out for the first-half as expected and featured for 72 minutes.

Having been asked after the game how he was, Nuno said:

“I’m sorry I cannot answer that. For now he’s alright. In the warm-up he had a strange feeling but he was ok to play. I don’t know. Let’s assess him. I didn’t realise. I’m sorry.”

Team-mate Cristian Romero (£5.0m) missed out on the matchday squad as a precaution with a minor knee injury suffered in the UEFA Europa Conference League defeat at Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night.

Ben White (£4.5m) was missing for Arsenal after testing positive for Covid, while during the match, Kieran Tierney (£5.0m) limped off on 65 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle issue.

At Chelsea, N’Golo Kante (£5.0m) and Hakim Ziyech (£7.4m) both came off the bench in the second-half after being injured in the UEFA Super Cup.

Who would be your cash cows and which players would be your priority to get in. Thinking some of these options-
In list- Son, Bruno, DCL, 4.5m mid, Raphinha.
Out list- Gundo, Wilson (maybe), Salah (short term switch)

    Sanchez
    Pereira, TAA, Coufal.
    Salah, Benrahma, Greenwood, Barnes.
    Wilson, Ings, Antonio.
    Bachmann, Shaw, Gundo, Tsimikas.
    0.0m, ITB, 2ft

I think if wanting Salah/Son/Bruno or any three big hitters then you have to go 4-4-2. You may be able to keep TAA too. Your 7.5 striker > 4.5/Dennis. Get Reguillon/Semedo/Dallas/6.0 mid and you should be set

You can make an excellent 3 4 3 for this coming fixture swing with Bruno Son Vardy (one week holder for Lukaku) as premiums

Switching back to Salah and TAA in a few weeks

    A) Tsimikas
    B) Veltman
    C) White

2 FTs, but a shame to burn them both on cheap defenders…

Yes imo, I think Arteta spent this money because he wants a GK "who can distribute" similar to Ederson. I think he'll phase him in slowly this season and Leno will leave at the end of it.

2 FT. Keep Mahrez or downgrade to Grealish to change Tsmikas to 4.5/5.0 def?

In all honesty, is it worth getting Lukaku in? currently swapping Ings to DCL next week and have Antonio already? I'm thinking to try to save funds to get Chelsea def instead.

For anyone who didnt see the Wolves Spurs game

The final score and xG even will not tell the full story (xG wont pick up on almost tap in that dont reach a player due to defender interceptions)

Wolves could have conceded a tonne on the break, but for last ditch tackles. I can see them being ripped open by United next week with the system they are playing

Its very attacking but can be picked apart with good passing. Wouldnt surprise me if it ended 3 or 4 1 to United

For the record i never was one of those.

Southampton have a good history of correcting things in defense after a poor performance

Plus i rate both Salisu and Livramento as defenders, people were way over the top on United for week 2

Week 3 is different. Its all about Lage, and his history of playing in this manner.

I watched it and they were better than that. The goal they did lose by shouldn't have been a penalty. I'm captaining Bruno purely because I have no one else, but I don't need to sugar-coat it.

They are in transition , nice build up but dont know how to get Jimi involved and with Trincao and Adama, both are selfish and poor finishers, they will create and not score as much as they should

Remind me alot of Brighton last year really, but way more open in defence

will be interesting to see if Wolves try and control the ball ( which i suspect they will) and will be then be open to the counter

Sancho could be a perfect player to play against that wolves high line

It's so funny how United fans and others trying to force that "oh that's a good opponent for us, they're playing attacking football so we should score 5-6 past them".

We've heard it last week. Can you teel me what United created from open play vs Southampton? I know, the answer is NOTHING. Just crosses from set pieces.

United have a bad manager which working for them for almost 3 yrs already, and they didn't even have his own style of play, they can't play against low block, they just rely on individual performances EVERY game. That's shame, lol.

Below call to get Lukaku in

    1. Bruno, dennis

    Or

    2. Jota, ings +1.6m (likely def upgrade from 4.0 to Chelsea)

Worth risking 3 x 4.0 defenders for this possible WC team?

    Sanchez
    TAA, Matip, Duffy
    Fernandes, Son, Grealish, Greenwood, Benrahma
    Lukaku, Antonio

    (Foster, Livramento, Obafemi, Williams)

    Cheers

Absolutely not. You don't want to be squandering cheap transfers on here-today-gone-tomorrow players until 2022.

Cheers. The front 7 is looking pretty reliable (perhaps Benrahma an issue if Lingard goes to WHU), but the bench is obviously an issue. Could also downgrade TAA to VVD to sort that.

Duffy may eventually get dropped once burn and veltman come back.
Livramento more secure but could face rotation
Dont think Williams will play tbh

U can do with one not playing but u kinda need 2 for a bit of rotation

Cheers, yeah I think I would need to stretch a little, although there aren't many appealing 4.5 options at the moment. Williams is still likely to go to Norwich isn't he? Not that that's a good thing!

Why not just do Grealish to Jota and then you can upgrade one of them to a safer pick. Or all the way down to Raphinha / Benrahma / Sarr and then you can upgrade one of them to someone really decent.

      1. Catastrophe

Cheers. Grealish would be my City 'coverage'. Could potentially downgrade TAA to VVD or even Son to Dele if that became viable (unlikely) and that would allow upgrade of defence (and Obafemi).

Cheers all, didn't think so and not in a bad spot (150K OR) but just playing with a draft getting coverage from all Teams albeit losing Salah (based on him playing Chelsea then assumption he misses 1-2)

is Lukaku actually very good or is it just Arsenal being bad?

The price drop doesn’t matter if you want him for the long term, and Arsenal have great fixtures after GW3. That said, it’s Arsenal.

I would sell. The fact he scored so much last season was incredibly odd, he will not repeat that and I think other more advanced City mids and the forward will take over. Torres, Grealish, Mahrez, Sterling, and Jesus...and Bruyn with the assists.

I don't know what's up with me... usually at the start of the season I have about 6 transfers I'd love to make and I usually do an early WC and take hits up until I choose to hit the button.

But I'm currently on 2FT struggling to pick out the best transfer.
I think the problem is NOT that I don't have anyone I want to buy - I'd happily take DCL, Lukaku, Greenwood or Son - it's more I don't know who to sell, and some of the price points are tricky for my team. Have Mahrez, Barnes & Toney who I could sell, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to sell any of them right now.

Also have Tsimi & White that are probably priorities to sell - but they are the definition of boring transfers with very little choice to replace them with.

Anyone else struck by inertia at the moment? 🙁

Got to deal with the boring issues though. Such as White and Tsimi. Be thankful you haven’t got attackers with terrible fixtures!

i am on the same boat, almost same team. already get rid of toney+ mahrez to DCL+benrahma. yes the are decent pick and might give points in near future, but mahrez is frustrating to own and DCL benrahma gonna rise more.

I love DCL pick and I really wanna get him in too. But not sure about Benrahma as I already have Antonio and I'm just not sure Benny can keep up his first week performance.

Alli could be a nice differential and kind of 'cover' for having no Son (not really cover Son's points - just have a piece of the Spurs attacking pie)

No, quite the opposite, a lot of my decisions are made on the eye test, although, I've often wondered what's the difference between the two.

Anyone getting rid of TAA to accommodate lukaku ?

lukaku+4.5 defense is better value than

    TAA+ greenwood/ raph/ benrahma/ sarr?

No doubt many knees will be jerking into that direction.

Chelsea's fixtures mean Lukaku is orobably not the best investment before gw7.
