Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 8?

Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) looks to be the leading captain candidate for Gameweek 8, but are there any viable alternatives to the Egyptian for this upcoming round of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) action?

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 8 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 11:00 BST deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

Mohamed Salah unsurprisingly leads the Captain Poll, having gained a whopping 67.63% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m) sits in second, and is backed by 7.54% of FPL managers ahead of his visit to in-form Brentford.

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) occupies third-place with 3.73%, with the top-five list completed by differentials Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) and Sadio Mane (£11.9m), with 2.99% and 2.45% respectively.

Having scored nine goals in nine games in all competitions so far this term, the shouts to perma-captain Mohamed Salah are intensifying, especially after another double-digit haul against champions Manchester City in Gameweek 7. 

If you had started the season with the armband on the Egyptian and not moved it, you’d be sitting pretty on 140 captain points, which is probably more than most current totals right now.

    I will WC this week and need help with some questions. any help appreciated

    1.) As Duffy and Veltman now have the same price, who is better for the long term?
    one of them will mainly be bench cover (alongside Livramento and 4.5 Mid)

    2.) who is the better 4.5 Mid? Douglas Luiz, Brownhill, or Norman? (most probably will always be 3rd sub)

    3.) do I put Son right away, or put one MCI Mid for the next 3 GW (and if yes, which one do we think the most nailed?) and put Son after?

    4.) for GK, Raya or Sanchez?
    the one I pick most probably won't be changed until the next WC (probably mid to late second half of the season)

    5.) thinking to still include TAA. which options is better?
    TAA + Chilwell/James + Toney or 2 CHE defender (Azpi/Rudi + Chilwell/James) + Jimenez

        Really?! Getting him is one of my main reasons to WC this week. Fixtures for City are decent and now he's match fit he'll be involved in most of what happens going forward. Also a good chance of Pens which Ronaldo & Lukaku don't have, plus CS bonus and the extra point for goals

          Ronaldo and Lukaku are so highly owned, going without one is ok, but both? You are basically betting against the majority of the player base who has gone with own or both. If KDB gets points then yea it’s differential points but in reality all you are doing is trying to cover the highest scoring one of those two. You can have differentials like Doucoure or something, but premium differentials? I’m not so keen, and KDBs position is never guaranteed, he could play deep

        Thiago will be back in the afternoon tomorrow, hopefully safe from this match in Brazil. We had our talk and tactical training, he missed all that. He played 90 minutes and had 12 hours of travelling so that gives you the answer.

        Toni Rudiger is injured, came back injured from the national team. Christian Pulisic is still injured. We also have doubts with Hakim Ziyech who has missed the last couple of sessions with a headache.

        Romelu is fine and will be involved tomorrow.
