FPL Double Gameweek 26 announced: Fixtures, initial reaction and chip thoughts

Eight teams will have a Double Gameweek 26 after more previously postponed Premier League matches were rescheduled on Thursday morning.

The headline news is that Liverpool get their mooted double-header against Norwich City and Leeds United, so thoughts will inevitably turn to the Triple Captain chip in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

The other clubs with two fixtures in Gameweek 26 are Arsenal, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leeds, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 26 FIXTURES

DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 26 REACTION

DOES THE FREE HIT IN GAMEWEEK 27 NOW BECOME MORE APPEALING?

With Liverpool and Arsenal enjoying the best of the ‘doubles’ in Gameweek 26, many FPL managers will be wanting to stock up on players from the Reds and the Gunners.

However, the two teams are set to blank in the very next Gameweek after it:

Liverpool and Arsenal were due to face each other in Gameweek 27 but that fixture is definitely postponed because of the clash with the EFL Cup final.

The Reds will definitely be without a league match in Gameweek 27 if they beat Cardiff City at home in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend.

Arsenal are out of the FA Cup so technically have a free midweek but their outstanding fixtures, against Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea, are all against teams still in the cup. Even if one of those sides were to be eliminated in the fourth round, TV companies will likely dictate whether any of those previously postponed league matches could fit around the televised cup games in Gameweek 27.

Operating under the assumption that Liverpool and Arsenal both double in Gameweek 26 and blank in Gameweek 27, then a Free Hit – for those with the luxury of doing so – in the latter might be the best way to navigate it.

TRIPLE CAPTAIN IN GAMEWEEK 26…?

Many of us have a Triple Captain chip burning a hole in our pockets and a huge opportunity to use it has now emerged after this morning’s fixture announcement.

Liverpool’s double-header against Norwich and Leeds will see many of us flocking towards Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) with the armband.

There are caveats, as Klopp’s troops are in EFL Cup final action four days after the Leeds game – so might we see some managed minutes for key FPL assets in that second Double Gameweek 26 clash as a result?

Handing the Triple Captain chip to Salah probably won’t have season-changing results either, as so many others will be backing him and his ‘effective ownership’ will be through the roof, so rank gains will likely be modest.

…OR BENCH BOOST?

Not many of us were expecting Double Gameweek 26 to be quite so big, so now an alternative chip strategy might present itself: the Bench Boost.

A quick look at the LiveFPL site suggests that the average manager in the top 10k (using this pool of managers as an example) owns just over six players from the eight teams who double in Gameweek 26.

So with three/four free transfers to use between now and the Double Gameweek 26 deadline, coupled with maybe a hit or two, many FPL managers will be well on their way to getting out a full starting XI who all have two fixtures.

Then there are the teams with appealing ‘single’ Gameweek 26 fixtures, such as West Ham United (home to Newcastle), Aston Villa (home to Watford), Brighton (home to Burnley) and Manchester United (away to Leeds), whose players many of us already own and who could easily rack up tidy scores despite the lack of a second match.

ONLY ONE GAMEWEEK 26 FIXTURE FOR GALLAGHER

Crystal Palace have two fixtures in Double Gameweek 26 but one of their most-owned Fantasy players, Conor Gallagher (£6.1m), will only have one match.

That’s because the on-loan midfielder will be ineligible to face his parent club, Chelsea, in the first of the Eagles’ two games.

Tough to navigate these fixtures, may go for something like:

GW24: Gray Madssion to KDB (C) Ramsey -4
GW25: Keep FT as have DDG and CR7 (C)
GW26: DDG Ramsey CR7 to Rambo Salah (TC) Broja -4
    GW27: FH

With the carabao cup final on the Sunday, you have to imagine Mane Jota Salah start that. So does anyone see Jota playing Norwich Leeds and Chelsea? I could see Firmino maybe coming in for Leeds? I’m just speculating, perhaps Tsimikas plays Leeds? I think Salah is generally safe from rotation, Mane could sit one out. With Williams out on loan, i also think Trent is safe, as a third Liverpool option, with 2 nice home games, VVD could be the best option. I can recall a few big VVD scores at home against the weaker sides.

    Thoughts?

We're still in a break which feels like its been months off, and Klopp isnt the most trigger-happy rotation-wise, so other than Mané & Salah I doubt anyone will need a rest. I do like VVD more than Jota though.

Diaz punt would be a silly waste of a Pool spot though Junglist

This is where I hope to make up ground on people Wildcarding for the double gw27.

Lovely this really shakes fpl things up. Loads of options and different routes for those who play fpl. Exciting times. I am sure the FFS cliche - 'caveat' will be used plenty of times over the next while.

I am currently on WC. Used BB gw1 so it is only navigating the blank gw27 that I have to worry about.

My WC is currently (before this DGW 26 was announced) 2.1m itb

    De Gea (Foster)
    --
Digne - Varane - Cancelo - TAA (Tierney)
    --
KDB -Foden - Bowen - Fernandes - (Ramsey)
    --
    Watkins - Edouard - Boja

    --
The initial plan was to save a transfer gw25 and get Salah in for Fernandes and a Spurs defender in for Varane.
Would be benching Salah - Tierney and TAA gw27.

I really don't see a reason to change that plan - first impressions anyway.
As I am then fairly well set for the double gameweek 26 -

    Foster - Salah - TAA _ Edouard - Tierney - Spurs defender

Plus I will have City players, Villa players - with decent single gameweek fixtures and Broja has a good fixture v Norwich gw27

Strange as it may seem I think I will likely hold my FH's until later in the season.
I am tempted by a TAA - TC though as few will do it and he is more than capable of a huge score.

Honestly I think you should reconsider how "well set" you are for the double - 2x Pool & 1x Arsenal is going to be pipped by most other managers I reckon. I know it neccesitates FH27, but I think your current setup looks like a red arrow to me unless City absolutely smash Spurs

Maybe - I was considering - 2 Arsenal or 3 pool as well. Another Arsenal defender or another Liverpool defender. Based on current funds it would be Matip or another of the Arsenal lads.
Matip not ideal likely to be rotated in a DGW?

I have decided to go for a halfway house - it actually entailed getting Gilmour back in for Ramsey to make sure I have the funds for Salah and other moves gw26

A planned -4 gw26 so I can take advantage of Man City and Man United's fixtures gw24 and gw25 - while also enabling me to get one more Arsenal and one more Liverpool

        PLAN -
WC GW24 (which I am already on that ship has sailed)
        GW 25 - Save a transfer
        GW 26 -4
        - Fernandes OUT Salah IN
        - Varane OUT VVD IN
        - Foden OUT (who faces Spurs) Odegaard IN
        --
If I am feeling really brave maybe a -8 Broja OUT Lacazette IN
        --
I plan on ignoring the Spurs DGW - as I cannot see value in removing one of my current defenders for one of them. Between value been tied up and good fixtures they have.
        --
Unsure whether I will need to FH the resulting team - GW 27 if I stick with the -4 plan. I likely will have to.

        De Gea (Foster)
        --
        *Tierney* *TAA* *VVD* Digne Cancelo
        --
        *Salah* *Odegaard* *Gilmour* Bowen KDB
        --
        Watkins-Broja-Edouard

There will likely be six players unavailable.

Something to keep in mind for DGW planners...

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

A player you already own is going to weigh more than one you're looking to buy. You only have a limited number of transfers unless you go crazy on hits and a player with strong fixtures that you already own is going to be worth more than one you don't own yet.

I see people thinking of selling Ronaldo > Bruno for instance or Kane > Son. But in terms of overall team improvement, it's almost always better to focus on removing the weakest links of your team.

If for instance you have a team with Ronaldo, Maddison and Bernardo and 2 FTs like I do. Transfers should be prioritized on the weaker links - Maddison and Bernardo - rather than using an FT to move funds off attack in Ronaldo > Bruno.

You made your choice with Ronaldo as your MUN heavy hitter and it was a reasonable choice (albeit disastrous since GW22). Changing your mind here is going to fail more often than not and add to your burgeoning hits. It's better to play the hand you're dealt rather than chase after the new shiny option in front of you especially if that move results in 2+ transfers to move funds around.

Focus on making the right choices with those new improvements and getting the right call on budget mids so that you save transfers down the line and can setup with solid picks such as Bowen. It's all about building on momentum and keeping your team up to date whilst plugging holes. This will ultimately save you from dangerous spots that could force an earlier WC than planned.

I should pin this on my monitor because I'm guilty of making the same mistakes this season. Getting Maddison for instance on an early transfer has turned out to be a disaster because I not only moved too early I did it with a short-sighted view on just DGW22 and now I have to remove him again because he's become one of my team's weakest links...

      Agreed and well said.

I will say this season is all about curveballs however, so people are having some fun finally again!

This DGW looks like it has brought some fun back so maybe people make moves that might not make sense because they've had enough of the madness.

Still stick to your assessment though

Wise words. Got to stick with Ronnie now and go wIthout BrunO - unless FH in GW26 alternatively W25. For me it would be either Maddison to Son or Antonio to Edouard this GW, but probably better to save FT to not get caught out by injuries or Covid. Really difficult to plan now, these DGWs schedules are very awkward given my team now.

How many doublers are we all aiming for in GW26 if intending to TC Salah? 7 - 9 is good enough right? I'm looking at 8 for a -4 up until and including GW26 should be about the average I reckon?

Currently have 6 before any usage of FTs. Other than getting Ramsdale, I dont think I'll get anyone else.

      SGWers being:

      Bowen, Antonio vs NEW
      Watkins vs WAT
      Cucurella vs BUR

Yeah, seems enough, not one for overly attacking doubles when teams fixtures are the greatest, will be keeping any hits to a minimum for sure.

Yeah but with Ramsdale, Lloris and many other DGWs in my team, I may just go for it. Maybe email the Zambian witchdoctor and pay him a tenner do put some hex on... I am told his prices are affordable. 🙂

You dont have Bowen or Cancelo? I'd still play them over someone like Weghorst/King

Still think my best decision this whole season is to keep hold of Sa. Even with the double not being the best.

In terms of (c), yes. Said that, I'd rather just get him now and lock in the team before making other moves.

      Start Broja imo

    Quick GW25 WC draft:

    Sa Foster
    Cancelo TAA VVD Tierney Ait-Nouri
    Salah Bowen Raphinha Cornet Rashford/Elanga
    Edouard King/Weghorst DCL

Rashford/Elanga would become Saka for DGW26, leaving me with 12DGWers, would possibly BB for DGW26 then FH BGW27. Then downgrading King/Weghorst back to Broja would leave me with enough money to move DCL to Kane in GW28. Still not sure I feel like I'd be utilising the WC enough but at the same time I'm trying to pick options that I'm sure I'm happy with beyond the DGW.

Sorry messed that up, I'll start again.
Not a huge fan of doubling up on Burnley attack - how many do you realistically think they'll score vs bha TOT? Maybe keep Cornet but not Weghorst? Broja has Everton at home, could just save that transfer. Rest looks good

Yeah you're right, I'm a big fan of Broja too so I'd be happy to hold onto him as I'll want him back afterwards too.

Bit risky I think as Gw27 is when most will be using one of them.
Mane is a good call though.
