Man City v Brentford team news: Haaland and Foden start

The final Gameweek before the six-week World Cup break gets underway this lunchtime at the Etihad.

It’s a huge game from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective, with armbands aplenty handed to Erling Haaland and plenty of interest elsewhere in the reigning champions.

Manchester City v Brentford kicks off at 12:30 GMT.

Haaland returns to the City starting line-up for the first time in 18 days, having made the bench in both of City’s last two matches in all competitions.

And Phil Foden is also back in the starting XI after his trio of benchings in Gameweeks 13-15.

A recall for Aymeric Laporte is the third and final change to Pep Guardiola’s team from the side that beat Fulham.

Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez drop to the bench, while Nathan Ake misses out as his wife is giving birth.

Joao Cancelo starts, having served his one-match ban in midweek.

As for Brentford, Ivan Toney is back in Premier League action after missing last weekend’s draw with Nottingham Forest through suspension.

Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen and Frank Onyeka also come into the side as Josh Dasilva, Yoane Wissa and Keane Lewis-Potter drop to the bench.

    I've tried to put together the "Fourmium" draft, but I still cannot find the one I like. I guess "Threemium" is probably the best balance.

      Im actually sticking with 2 I think - Haaland & KDB. Fear a post-WC hangover for Kane & I'm not keen enough on Salah to make sacrifices elsewhere (can't fit him with Darwin, Maddison, Cancelo etc). If Belgium make the SF/F maybe I'll consider Salah over KDB for a short while

        Hopefully some fixtures will be re-arranged before GW17 comes around. A DGW in GW19 or later would be ideal, plus with everyone using unlimited transfers it might lead to some variance in teams.

        I've seen a few comments recently about how FPL has been getting less enjoyable. I've been finding this too, though admittedly it may be because I'm doing badly. But I also think that the xG and other stats are allowing 'casuals' (which I don't intend as an insulting term) to just pick players based on a simple algorithm. It feels there's a lot less skill involved, though maybe it's just now beyond my skills. But others may agree with me.

        I wonder therefore if FFScout would be minded to put together a Working Group to look into ways that FPL could be changed for the better in future seasons. They have access to pretty much all the experts, and I think they could muster a strong committee to look at how the game could be improved.

          It’s a funny game, it’s like playing Texas Holden Poker in Vegas… there is skill involved but even with the best moves you might be busted

            I've been playing since the 07/08 season, and I feel like my FPL career is coming to an end. Maybe I'm just getting old. I joined Facebook in 2007, and closed my account last year. So maybe it's just more me that's changed rather than the game's intrinsic enjoyment.

          There is no problem. Everything is working precisely as planned. The older players who aren’t enjoying it as much are not the priority. The new ‘casuals’ are the priority. One day, the game will be monetised and you will be asked to pay to play.

            But, don't block your third City slot with Ortega. I know he is 3.8m but get that extea 0.1m elsewhere. Summerville for example.

              Nah I'd rather have Bailey as my first sub. I can do Bueno to Brandon Williams though. But I don't really see myself getting a 3rd City player anymore. I won't be able to afford cancelo and foden will always be a rotation risk.

          Ward as a regular every week puts me off & Stones over Cancelo a big no but otherwise great.

            Cancelo takes up a huge amount of money for occasional hauls. I feel Stones or Robertson can return similar points. Of course, if that happens, we will go back to 4-4-2.

        The use of leaks by the FPL influencers shows this game is for the few, not the many. We need to get money out of FPL, starting from my own membership. Else it will be a world dominated by Andy Smears and FPL Hate, once again faking mutual hate for mutual profit. A different world is possible and it's up to us to make it happen.
