How Blank Gameweek 28 looks after the FA Cup fourth round

Blank Gameweek 28 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) clashes with the FA Cup quarter-finals, so there’ll be blanks for FPL managers to navigate on that mid-March weekend.

After the results of the weekend’s FA Cup fourth-round ties and this evening’s draw for the fifth round, we now know a little more about which games will take place and who is likely to blank:

  • Four fixtures are definitely going ahead as things stand, only one of which was added after the FA Cup fourth round (Arsenal v Palace).
  • We will get between one and five postponements in Gameweek 28. Should the ties go the way of the fifth-round favourites, we will indeed get five postponements.
  • At least one of Liverpool v Fulham or Wolves v Leeds will go ahead. If Sunderland defeat Fulham and Leeds, both of these Premier League games will proceed as planned.
  • At least one of Man City v West Ham or Brighton v Man Utd will definitely be postponed. Based on the draw, it looks very likely that both games will have to be rescheduled anyway.
  • Southampton v Spurs also looks very likely to be postponed in Gameweek 28 based on the fifth-round draw, with Brentford v Leicester also probable.

GW28 Premier League fixtureStatusA blank will happen if the following happens:

We’ll only know the full extent of Blank Gameweek 28 just before Gameweek 26, when the FA Cup fifth round has taken place.

As for Blank Gameweek 25, you can read more about that here.

Slowly convincing myself the KDB - Bruno hokey cokey is worth it.

Will probably do Mitro to Nketiah as part of it. Do that and bench Almiron? Or hold Mitro (probably bench) to have 2FT in 23 in case a curved ball comes my way?

I don't think it's worth it. But I do think KdB > Bruno is worth the move. If I ditch KdB, he won't be coming back in my team in 23.

Looking at the same moves and I think it's just about worth it, assuming no curveballs.

      To start? Yes.
      For 90? No.
      Usually plays 60+ though.

    A) Start Ake
    B) Start Shaw ahead of him (-4 hit to sell Patterson)

Hm didn't know about this Eriksen injury, was thinking about punting on him think they'll miss him, he was bloody everywhere in the last few games I've seen. Sounds like Fred will come in for him which I think is fine from an attacking perspective (although he clearly offers a very different threat to Eriksen) but defensively may be an issue

Eriksen has been a liability in the big matches recently

I suppose he doesn't have the defensive nous that others in that position often do. Still, covers quite a lot of ground and generally solid on the ball. I actually rate Fred a lot higher than most do and given his performances over the years with Casemiro for Brazil he should slot in fine, just leaves gaps a bit when he's in the attacking mood

Feel like it's more the other way around, no? Fred isn't awful in an attacking sense, but he's a bit more defensively astute, with a bit more in the tank than Eriksen. Feed does lose points for giving the ball away a bit though - passing not as crisp.

From what I've seen I feel like Eriksen covers more ground and generally is better positioned (even though he's definitely not better at actually making tackles, cutting of passing lanes probably)

When having DDG, Shaw and Rashford, I just stay put with that, right? Even with two trannies.

Will likely go Doherty to Estupinan or Mings if so

Cooper admits Gibbs-White will be sidelined for a 'little while' following the ankle injury he suffered in the Carabao Cup SF first-leg defeat to Man United. 'Morgan is injured. Everyone saw him limp off; he’ll be out for a little while, with the nature of what happened.'

Do you have Mahrez? I'd take this opportunity to jump from KDB to Mahrez instead

Also, Bruno vs Leeds isn't a firesale. Not until BGW25, at least

Sure there's nobody else to sell for Mahrez or a third Arsenal option in GW23?

I am considering playing my FH in BGW28, as I likely only have 2-3 playing players in my current team, and no wildcard. Instead of having to slowly transform it into 8-9-10 playing players.

    Thoughts? Still just a waste?

Please see what you can come up with here: https://www.livefpl.net/myteam/

I think there are ways to comfortably get to 8 - 10 with FTs and maybe a hit or two, while still improving your squad and setting up BB29. But it's all gonna be team specific. If FH28 works best for you, then I'm all for it as well

Personally prefer FH32 because that's when the players I'll have available will likely have bad fixtures

I don't think there's one right way to handle chips this season, because there are far more unknowns than in previous DGW + BGW periods

If Cancelo is transferred out of City, will that make Lewis a no-brainer ?

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 6 Years
      1 year, 9 months ago

Cancelo hasn't started at RB since the World Cup, yet Lewis still rotates with Walker

Lewis' competition is Walker, not Cancelo. Cancelo's departure makes Ake more nailed, as Pep is now likely to only *rest* Ake by playing Gomez or another CB there, not really for the tactical reasons seen in Lewis (second DM) vs Walker (third pacey CB)

      No

Not for me, with Jesus likely back in GW25. You're using a hit to book a future transfer

Could work in the short term though, and maybe Jesus might have a setback

I'm just not comfortable with getting Nketiah for a hit now unless you have an exit strategy, as he might be gone just when you need that third Arsenal asset in the blanks

2FT 0.4m ITB, still have WC. Thoughts appreciated 🙂 thinking, this week, Salah Solanke to Bruno Nketiah (leaves 2.0 ITB), to give me:

    Kepa (Ward)
    Trippier White Shaw (Cancelo* Neco*)
    Bruno Rashford(c) Martinelli Almiron (Andreas)
    Haaland Kane Nketiah

Then will move Martinelli out for Saka, Andreas out for Mitoma, and also find a Cancelo replacement.

Is getting a Arsenal defender to replace Cancelo worth it? Was looking at Saka/odegaard + Nketiah next week to go with Martinelli. If I get Gabriel in, it blocks the plan. Is Nketiah worth the -4 over Gabriel for the rest of the season?

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 6 Years
      1 year, 9 months ago

Nketiah might not start beyond GW24, unless you're sure he's now above Jesus in the pecking order or the estimated return date won't pan out that way

So I don't think Nketiah is a "rest of the season" move, while Gabriel actually might be

The easiest FPL decisions, imo, are the straightforward transfers to replace a red-flagged asset with one who obviously strengthens the squad

I'll put it this way: Cancelo's exit has simplified your decision

Thanks for showing me the other side of the coin! Was probably blinded by the potential of a triple Arsenal attack. Still pondering over Zinchenko vs Gabriel haha!

Kane by some distance. Long-term hold. Perma-starter. Second most reliable premium behind Haaland. Best striker beside Haaland for the rest of the season. Nobody else is really worth the funds gained from dropping him

A Mitro KDB to Nketiah Bruno or
B Kane Almiron to Nketiah Bruno
C Any other suggestions welcome.1.2 m in bank

In A probably Bruno back to KDB in 23 and get City defender-4

In B would probably do Bruno to Mahrez in 23 and Mitro to Kane in 24 funded by Mahrez to Mitoma/max 6.8 m mid for -4 to fund

    Kepa
    Trippier Botman Shaw
    KDB Saka Rashford Almiron
    Haaland Kane Mitrovic
