Not a single hair on the man's body or face. Makes up for it top side though.

Late goal conceded when foot of the gas accounts for most of them. I'd expect it to regress to norm next season. Ederson still not worth considering, but interested in Stones.

Too soon to say. If Bilva and Mahrez leave, he'll be nailed on the right side. Could also be nailed while KDB is out. Need to see some pre-season action before deciding anything.

Depends who else signed. His stats and eye test always good. Game time is always the concern. But he had injury post World Cup that only came out months later which was big factor in managed minutes. KDB is still great but always looks knackered, I think Foden will play centrally a lot more next season, again just depends who else is signed though.

Hi Neale, even that one seems to have visibility issues, at least for me (Chrome - desktop).
There are four buttons, three when you select an individual team (up, down, and bin, I'm guessing) and they all appear as a rectangle.
It's not a big issue, but doesn't seem ideal if FFS is focused on showing off new, improved features.

Don't know if we could get an article about how to use things like fixture ticker, etc. If I were able to amend the values for each team (create a personalised ticker) and then permanently save it, that would be so useful. But I don't even know if that functionality is active.

From tomorrow, when I leave Scout as an employee, I'll likely be returning to the boards as a casual!

My goal this season is to not use Twitter or whatsapp groups or anything else for FPL, just the FFS boards like the good old days.

Sorry at first but why Fantasy Football Scout 'Podcast' / Video in youtube so boring?

    1. Too long 30 minutes while it should be 3 to 5 minutes only.

To many 'talking', old man style.

    2. Should have more graphic , picture instead of video of presenter's face.

    3. Make it simple, compact and direct. People nowadays want something quick and efficient.

Yes, I've never watched a Fantasy Football Scout 'Podcast' or Scoutcast for more than a few minutes. Way too long with too much waffle. If it was 3 to 5 minutes like reading a FFS article, I'd watch every time.

Surely there is place for both. If you like a quick 3-5 min burst then that’s fine. But not everyone does. I enjoy listening to a lengthy discussion with the headphones in whilst enjoying a walk or mowing the lawn. Encourages my own thought process and means I am not thinking about work or life! Each to their own and all that.

I think you've got to really like the personalities in the video before it becomes interesting. Otherwise it's easier and faster to just review the stats yourself or look up a different video.

But if you do like the cut of their jib then there's nothing better than a good waffling discussion

      1. Andy_Social

Nah, I dont care about the personalities. I just want information, well-presented visually to help me make my decisions.

TikTok has ruined us. The long videos have entertainment value. There’s nothing wrong with long videos, just look at Blackbox, but some people just aren’t entertaining.

I’ll take a well presented long video over a 3 minute spoon feeding any day.

Liverpool close to signing attacking mid Dominik Szoboszlai for £70m according to Ornstein.

How do they fit him in along with Gakpo, Diaz, Salah, Jota and Darwin?

Salah the only safe option if he signs.

He doesn’t play any of those positions, he’s an attacking midfielder, so if he gets his pressing right (which he should as he is ex red bull) he will take the right midfield 8/10 role in this new WM formation everyone has. Could be a genuine option.

      My best guess would be:
      Alisson
      Robertson, VVD, Konate,
      Fabinho/Thuram if he signs, Trent,
      Mac10, Szoboszlai,
      Diaz, Gakpo, Salah

I've no problem with it and was being slightly facetious in response to Art's previous comments about City buying the league and not caring if the players signed are success of not because will just get another one regardless, which has no grounding in actual fact as City's transfer policy and scouting is on the whole, excellent. Not to mention 8th in net spend over past 5 years (period where league has been dominated), Arsenal 2nd btw.

It's easy to have a low net spend though when you have already assembled a squad of young superstars and you blow everyone else out of the water wages-wise!

City were spending like it was going out of fashion, and on top of that cheating FFP.

Their day is coming, might be in a couple of years but they'll be relegated or similar for their FFP cheating.

And still over a 5 year period have a net spend of approximately £300M less than Arsenal and of course not taking into account dirty Kronke who settles his mucky affairs put of court

I refer you to my point regarding excellent scouting and transfer policy. City consistently walk away when players are over priced and have consistently signed excellent prospects (and improved them hugely) at bargain prices relative to what other teams pay for often inferior players.

City are obviously close to the top for wages, but Utd and Chelsea both have bigger wage bills, Liverpool not far behind City. Not sure how that equates to blowing "everyone" else out of the water.

              Try again.

They got Haaland at a bargain price because they were able to outbid everyone else wages-wise and to give his agent a solid wedge too!

You seem to be attempting to make the point that no one else can compete wages wise with City, but you're working off lazy perceptions rather than fact. As I mentioned, 2 teams have higher wage bills than City and one very close. David de Gea earns the same as Haaland and Salah (justified) and Sancho (less so) only marginally less.

Relatively low net transfer spend due to club being well run allows City to compete for the top players and top wages when it's actually worth it.

I agree with everything you are saying here, but I would make the point that Haaland earns nearly 3x what anybody else earns in the league, including City.

Also how is DDG's wage justified? At this point last year his wages were more than City, Liverpool, Arsenal Chelsea, Wolves and Brighton goalkeeper COMBINED. That... is not right.

No way are DDG's wages justified, I formatted poorly and only meant Salah's were justified.

How does Haaland earn 3 times what everyone else earns? Do you mean factoring in any signing on fee? I'd say that's a different thing if so, large signing on fees are standard practise now when top players have release clauses obviously well below their market value or when they are on a free.. It will be very much in the mind of Harry Kane (maybe even his dopey brother's too) round about now with only one year left on his contract.

I'm not saying I agree with these practises, but that is the game that was kicked off by Sky when the PL came into fruition and all other top teams play it.

No, even without signing on fees for player and agent, Haaland's wages are around 900k pw and then your next lowest is KDB at 400k. The policy of a small squad with a high concentration of quality allows for these wages, but they are sky-high nevertheless.

Oh with bonuses and such. Hard to find accurate info on this sort of thing, I tend not to trust figures reported in tabloids. It does seem he gets a wedge for goals, so he'll be sitting pretty on that front.

I can imagine the other top players in the league have big performance relates boosts in their contracts also, again standard practise these days. Maybe his exceed them, I'm not sure. Presume the bonuses are included in overall annual salaries reported for clubs?

My understanding is that the weekly wages of 900k, although heavily bonus-driven, were quoted before he started smashing goals in, i.e. they are sort of "guaranteed" bonuses and effectively an under the table payment. Which is problematic for providing accurate accounting information but I guess we wait and see if that goes anywhere.

Salary makes up such a small fraction of player pay now anyway - advertising revenue dwarfs it.

Salah's contract was leaked and the bonuses took it from 350k basic to just short of 400k. In terms of bonuses as a % of salary, I think Haaland is an exceptional case*.

*In England anyway - Mbappe is comparable otherwise.

I don't think it is a lazy narrative. City spent years throwing around money (in breach of FFP) in the transfer market and on wages. They signed players to long-term contracts at high wages at the time. These things tend to go in cycles and I expect City to rise up the net spend and wages rankings very soon. They have a lot of players out of contract in 2025 and some key players are getting old.

They blew everyone out of the water when it came to Haaland's wages as Joey has pointed out below. With Newcastle's new owners and the potential Qatari takeover of Man U, they might not be able to continue doing so in future.

Key for me is confirmation on whether or not the tabloid reported Haaland bonuses are included in the widely published tables for wage bills. If they are then I go back to my point of City boxing clever and spending budget wisely for true value. If they aren't, then yes, I concede the point is more valid.

I agree that it works in cycles and the current success could end at any time. Pep leaving in 2 years is the time when things are at greatest risk of declining. I don't see any reason why the contract/transfer situation should rise relative to other clubs (unfortunately the numbers always go up as whenever more money comes into the game it always does across the board).

There's not that many that expire in 2025. KDB, Mahrez, Bernardo and Ake really. All good players but I'd argue only KDB and Bernardo and key players.

Mahrez could well leave this summer for a decent fee and yes a replacement would be needed, but it would likely to be someone on similar or less wages. Ake will likely re-sign on better terms, but nothing daft.

Bernardo is the best example. He will be pricey to replace, though it could mean more game time for like of Foden and Alvarez and another 60 mil of considerably less signing to boost numbers.

KDB contract expires in 2025 but presuming he signs again, there's no reason to expect his wages will go up. He's still great but he's hit his peak and shows signs of physical decline.

Most common model for City is to sign players for between 15 and 60 mil and often they stay for years and in that time their market value is considerably higher than what was paid, again due to good scouting and good coaching. If they don't stay for years, the norm is for good returns in the transfer market, hence only being 8th in net spend over last 5 seasons.

Grealish is the obvious exception where I think we over-paid due to release clause, but it's not like in today's daft market it was overpaying by much. He's as good and better than most going for similar fees, was excellent last season and contracted to 2027 and likely yet to hit his peak.

With regards to FFP, it should be stated that this is all still pending and will come out in the wash. If I'm honest I'd hazard a guess that in the early seasons of takeover, there was some sponsorship inflation. If so, how much and for how long is what needs to be determined and level of punishment accordingly.

The moral high-ground many rival fans take does amuse me though. FFP was not about economic stability protection or level playing field, it was about protecting the monopoly status of Europe's elite clubs as much as possible. The teams formerly in G-14, pushing for European Super League etc,

There's a lot of holier than thou hypocrisy too. Since the advent of the premier league, the game's innocence went long ago and money is king. That doesn't sit too well with me but it is what it is. I also have concerns about UAE human rights record and owning City, but it's not like City are the only team in this position. Chelsea were purchased and bankrolled by an oligarch with huge links to a despot and now are offloading players to a country that is part owner of them. You have Arsenal and Everton with history of funding from another oligarch linked to the same despot. The PL who wish to punish City for potential FFP breaches waving through Saudi Arabia buying a club on condition that it isn't linked to the state, then ignoring clear evidence that it is linked to the state. United are likely to be owned by another nation state with appalling human rights record. You have Liverpool hacking City's scouting system and getting away with it. Going further afield to teams in Europe complaining about FFP and City, you have Real Madrid with dodgy council training ground deals inflating funding, Barcelona with refs on the payroll, many documented instances of corruption by leading Serie A teams. If I thought about it any further I'm sure plenty of other examples would come to mind and I could bore you further.

Thanks for the long and detailed reply. You have put forward some good arguments but I'll tell you where I was coming from when I originally made my throwaway comment "It's easy to have a low net spend though when you have already assembled a squad of young superstars and you blow everyone else out of the water wages-wise!"

I think you took the statement about the wages quite literally. I didn't state it but I was referring to the Haaland transfer. As I said it was more of a throwaway comment and I probably should have phrased it like "and City can blow everyone out of the water wage-wise when they need to".

The tabloid wage estimates have KDB ahead of Haaland so they mustn't be including bonuses.

Regarding FFP, there have to be some sort of rules on this to keep football competitive. Otherwise the next few years would be an out and out arms race between Newcastle, City and United, if taken over. It has the potential to completely ruin football. I know some people say it's been ruined already! That's not to mention the effect FFP has on the lower leagues to stop clubs from overreaching.

The rules are in place so clubs should stick to them. Are they perfect? No, but there are some rules needed. I find it baffling that City can have the highest revenue in world football given the size of their fanbase and the fact they don't even sell out home games.

It amuses to me to hear City fans bring up net spend. Liverpool fans have been making this (valid) argument for years and have been ridiculed by other fans- especially City fans! City fans are now using it when it suits them. As usual with this kind of thing, a timeframe is chosen to fit a narrative. Why not go back 6, 7, 8 years? It's probably relevant considering some of their current players were signed back then.

City were top of the net spend rankings for years which has put them in a strong position in the transfer market. IMO they bought this and didn't earn it.

When Pep goes, if things start to decline, I fully expect the cheque book to be out again. The big difference is this time City will have some real competition from Newcastle and possibly United. If Newcastle go down the creative accounting route that City have, City fans could be calling for FFP rules to be enforced!

I think bringing up the Liverpool "hacking" issue is clutching at straws. Is that the worst thing you can say about Liverpool? Three employees from the City scouting department switched jobs to a competitor and they failed to remove their access to the City scouting database.

I'm not trying to take the moral high ground or have a holier than thou attitude, I am genuinely bitter! In any other era, Liverpool would have won 4 or 5 league titles in the last 10 years but only have 1. City are the best team the EPL has ever seen and I think that they cheated to achieve this. As you said, this will all come out in the wash but I doubt they are going retrospectively award titles to other clubs.

I stand by the sentiment of my original statement!

                        Thanks also for yours.

That's the point though, they do it when they need to because of good governance. If they spunked money by overpaying for transfer fees and wages generally as some other top clubs do, they wouldn't be able to. One transfer can be looked at in isolation, but it's the total wage and net transfer that are really relevant, and these show City are not blowing the other top teams out of the water. It's a well run club from top to bottom and a lot of other fans don't like that so misrepresent it in arguments. City wouldn't have been successful as they have been without the money, I'm not daft enough to deny that. But there are so many other factors they have got right that other clubs don't despite having plenty of financial weight, that's the real differentiator. Of course like you say, that could change quickly. Look at what happened when Ferguson left the rags. I'm more hopeful though for when Pep leaves because of how good the infrastructure is in terms of youth development, scouting network, coaching strategy, local investment in area etc.

Regarding Liverpool, this was centric to them, that was just another example of dodgy practise that people tend to sweep up the carpet but happy to jump on

Let's see what happens with FFP rulings, you seem to prefer to bypass due process and draw conclusions in advance. If they are found guilty (and what off and in what period), you will have a stronger argument for your sentiment.

I agree there has to be some sort of FFP, ideally a transfer and salary cap but that ship sailed long ago. Leicester are a massive fluke exception but it's the same teams competing because they were successful either and/or in terms of on the pitch or cashing in on their previous history at the right time when real money came into the game. After that it almost became a closed shop and these teams always put self-interest first and campaigned in every way possible to protect that and stop disruption. Is that good for the game? I'd much prefer it wasn't foreign investment, nation state involvement etc. but as it's not a level playing field to start with, that is the only way to compete and establish a genuine challenge.

City are self sufficient now. I'm not sure why you're surprised about City's success in revenue streams. I don't feel daft claiming to be the best team in the world as it stands, sponsors like that sort of thing. It's not do with fanbase size, ticket sales make up a tiny proportion of revenue.

Besides, that's another lazy trope oft trotted out. There's a season ticket waiting list at City and average attendance shows pretty much a sell out every league game, as does eye test. I know because I'm at them all. One criticism I agree with is some fans leave to soon, I don't like that and have to take that one on the chin but I also suspect it's that at these times people pushing the low attendance myth like to take the happy snaps to deliberately misrepresent the actual attendances.

It's also funny how many of the same fans calling City fans plastics also like to throw the Emptyhad nonsense about. They can't have it both ways. As with any successful club, there is certainly an element of football tourism, day trippers and plastic fans (otherwise there wouldn't be blokes flogging half and half scarves outside every week!), but younger generations aside, the bulk (30-40K) are still the same hardcore fans that were watching City in the old 3rd division where we would often get 30K. I was at Wembley for the FA Cup final and Istanbul for the CL final, I was also at Wembley to see us get promoted in play-offs against Gillingham in 99, Many of me friends who still go also were. There's plenty of other PL clubs whose fans deserted them when they fell on harder times.

Ha, they cancelled their tour to South Korea yesterday.

Ten Hag getting his excuses prepped in case of a GW1 defeat ("this was our ninth game of the season already")

Onana clean sheet and double assist, assisting a Mount brace with Rashford also on a double.

I've got my triple United locked in 😉

Going to the United game in Dublin on the 6th but didn’t realise they have recently added in the game v Lens on the 5th. Kind of annoying, I was hoping as it was there last pre season game it would include a lot of the first XI

If a player is playing as an inverted full back, do you count them as a defender or midfielder in the formation?

Formations are only valid at kick-offs. At the point he's a defender.
