Been stuck on 3, 5, 3, but how about this as a 4-4-2? Seems lots of good attacking options in defence…

    Flekken, (areola)
    Estu, Gabriel, stones, chilwell
    Saka, Bruno, rash, eze
    Haaland, Jesus

    Subs N Jackson, Nakamba, Beyer

You've probably got a more attacking option on the bench.

Besides Trippier until the end of the season and Trent and Stones at the end precious few defenders were a real goal threat.

You'd get the odd goal for an Arsenal defender or assist at Villa.

Points tend to be secured further forward.

Typically only 2 or 3 teams out of the 20 had a clean sheet in a typical week too.

              Going pedro 1st bench

Dropped estu currently- all the changes in midfield are making me doubt their defensive ability - plus the fixtures turn quite quickly- really don’t think West Ham is that great a fixture even at home. Wanted stability at the back whilst I move for juicy attacking players

I was on the fence about Estupinan. I had Steele over him at the back end of last season. Now I think him being fresh, the initial fixtures, ownership and his marauding runs, means he's staying in my draft.

RDZ says as much. Too many players but needs must.

He's preparing for up to 60 games across 4 competitions.

Presumably the Premier League is prioritised over the Europa League so he could have an A and B team and then pick and choose for the league and FA Cup as they progress.

The two games in short turnaround meant that Brighton and Newcastle both named smaller benches. Probably nothing too much to read into than the coaches using it as an opportunity to get nearer 90 minutes into the players' legs.

I thought Brighton looked the better team. Newcastle were a bit frustrating first half in retaining possession.

It was always going to be the Newcastle high press against Brighton playing from the back. It worked almost perfectly at SJP towards the end of the season. Newcastle's press isn't really fully there at the minute, due to fitness, heat and players used. I was impressed by Brighton's press, which surprised me a bit.

There were a few things that still are unanswered by the game. Brighton's keeper choice is still unclear. Newcastle's front 3 and midfield 3 for GW1 is not clear. Will Howe go with those showing form and fitness with Anderson, Gordon and Miggy, etc.

It's almost been nice to see Newcastle not play anywhere near their best, but still do okay result-wise against other good teams, all be it in meaningless friendlies. The ball over the top against teams with a high line has created most of the goals.

Beautiful runs and a great pass on Welbeck's goal from Mitoma. He's nailed on my starting XI.

Mitoma did well to beat Newcastle's 3rd/4th choice RB and maybe a bit of luck that Pope's touch led to the missed clearance by Newcastle's 3rd choice LCB.

Being serious though, he is a class act and with initial fixtures looks a great pick.

Possibly, but don't forget his returns in the last 12 games he played in last season were 1 Opta assist and one yellow card. That's 4.5m territory.

    Would you rather

    A:
    0.5ITB
    Ramsdale (Areola)
    TAA Gabriel Estu (Henry, Baldock)
    Saka, Bruno, Grealish, Andreas (Gibbs-White)
    Haaland Watkins Ferguson

    B:
    Ramsdale (Areola)
    TAA Gabriel Estu (Henry, Baldock)
    Saka, Bruno, Grealish, Andreas (Gibbs-White)
    Haaland Jackson Isak

The only 5.5 decent option I can think of is Andreas because Enciso isn't a nailed in starter whereas Andreas is on all the set pieces and could be rotated with Gibbs-white according to fixtures.

Jackson is obviously the kneejerk option. I still somewhat prefer A but would want some perspectives. What are your thoughts?

thats a long post too compare 2 pairs of strikers. take a look at first 2 fixtures because guaranteed everyone will be knee jerking to the players who scored in the first 2 weeks. so maximise your chances of already holding one of those players.

Do you think it is wise to double up on Man U midfield? Buno and Rashford.

Do you see them scoring more goals this season?

I have them both in my current draft, but means not having a Brighton mid or perhaps Mbeumo.

    1. Hairy Potter

I'm not convinced by the double up for my own team, but don't think it's a bad pick to start the season with. Easy to use one as a placeholder to see who emerges as an option from the other mids.

I've taken one out. They desperately need a striker. Even if they get Hojlund, he won't have gelled by the time GW1 rolls around. I don't think they're going to match City and Arsenal for goals early doors.

Its a tricky one. Both quality fantasy assets on an individual level. I really like their first 3 fixtures & Mount looks a strong addition, but the striker situation is a bit of an issue, whether bedding in someone new (and inexperienced, if Hojlund) or using Sancho as false 9 (terrible v Leeds) and that might just be enough to put me off a double up. I also would not want double attack for Arsenal away & am planning to WC right after

Local journos seem to think he's a certain starter against Villa after last night. I don't see it myself, but he should get more minutes this season, though mainly off the bench. He had good preseason last season as well and along with Gordon seems to have the highest fitness levels at this stage in preseason.

    Haaland | Joao Pedro

    Areola | Baldock | Beyer | Woodrow

    Thoughts?

Haaland, Salah and Trent definitely means compromise elsewhere Is Andreas fit? I think I'd be tempted by downgrading Andreas and upgrading a defender to 4-4-2.

On Botman, he looks a good 4.5 defender for the season. Also he only had 3 fewer attacking returns than Shaw.

Cheers - I just prefer 3-5-2, there’s enough 5.5 mids that I’m happy to go with that spot:

      5/10
      - Digne is Digne
      - Enciso and Vinicius are not nailed and you have little to no backup for them
      - We don't know if Steele is Brighton's keeper yet
      - Would prefer a 2nd Ars mid over Jesus
      - Probably best to remove 1 of TAA/Salah

    Which combo would you choose?

    A) Rashford | Botman/Pau | Andreas
    B) Rashford | Estupinan | Kluivert
    C) Bruno | Estupinan | Andreas
    D) Bruno | Botman/Pau | MGW

    Thanks

I just don't think there is anyone that will want to start with Botman/Kluivert/Andreas/MGW in their team, seems unnecessary given how easy it is to afford a strong team

          Welbeck couldn't miss.

          Wilson hit the bar.

I suspect that Verbruggen is the starting goalkeeper.

Not quite sure about the green kit, it looks okay except against the grass! Bit of a drawback if you ask me.

Analysis of midfield xGs from second half of the season data.

        Salah, Rashford and Bruno preferred.

Jota and Martenelli if they have the minutes.

Saka needs penalties to justify his cost according to the recent data. So he better score them as well.

Who's most likely to improve tho?

Yeah, it's all about the improvement.

i haven't seen much of Palace yet but I've got a hunch for Eze.

We've often got a few Palace fans on here, they may be back soon.

Foden is the other player I think will feature more prominently.

I think he’s worth it when you see him as a kid with more clean sheet potential, especially considering how he finished the season

        Onana

Very good indeed, I'm unsure on Stones and Foden at this time, City players always a pain to own but if they play it's guaranteed points. Don't like Chilwell on the bench, wouldn't want him for the first two anyway and he'll probably be injured by GW3

Looks good to me. My draft looks very similar.

I've got Martinelli as 3rd mid. I'm undecided between Foden and Mitoma for 4th mid, and going for Stones or 4.5 def.

I think I'm avoiding TAA unless something changes before GW1.

I like Chilwell and fine to bench him GW1. Maybe stick with Foden, but reassess after the next round of Man City friendlies.

I'm definitely starting with Mitoma & confident he'll tear it up the first few weeks (may even cap him GW1). Undecided on Nkunku/Jackson but I think I'll at least have a placeholder / plan to get one of them GW3 - LUT NFO just looks too good to pass on a Chelsea striker

              I don't know, but I'm hopeful!

            It looks great.

Much easier to set up with Salah now.

Let's not try to convince anyone else tho.

I suspect the Salah loyalists will come rowing back in over the next week or so.

I think 4-4-2 is the way to go for Salah drafts. I like this draft. Not sure on Man Utd double up, but don't dislike it. Brighton attack could have a bit of rotation.
