    Big dillema. Play with:

A: Haaland + Watkins/G. Jesus (+Archer on bench) and shitty defenders

    B: Haaland + Alvarez (+Ferguson on bench)

Watkins/Jesus (if he will recover) are consistent.

      Alvarez/Ferguson - i am worried about rotation

I took a -4 for Ferguson this week. Was always doing Salah to Son after what happened. Ferguson may not stay long but he has the potential to become an elite striker, possibly this season. I took Joao Pedro out from 5.5 to Ferguson 5.9...upgrade and gamble. Don't own Mitoma and I could bench Estupinian because even though Man Utd are dog they will still score against Brighton. Pretty sure Lindelof and Martinez will be fit, Evans and Maguire would of been a bloodbath!

Agree 🙂 so, option B is better in your opinion? Alvarez/Ferguson are hot now, but on the other side, Watkins/Jesus are maybe surer choice…?

            Watkins and Jesus is safest.

I would probably go Alvarez and Watkins.

                Option B is Alavarez+Ferguson 🙂

If I had Alvarez+Watkins, my defenders would be Cash, Udogie, Gusto + two 4.0 defenders… and thats ugly I think 😀

    Morning All,

    Who to sell for Son?

    A- Sterling
    B- Mitoma

Leaning toward selling Mitoma now and bringing Fergusson in GW6

    Areola Gusto Estupinian Anderson

E.Anderson to any midfielder up to 9m next week. Was thinking Rashford.

Certainly don't think you need him this week, Newcastle will be tough despite recent form.
Next week both Mbeumo and Eze could do well.

Stupid amount of money, but if they're willing to pay it now, what's to say they wouldn't pay it next summer? Can see the obvious appeal to Salah, especially with no Champions League this season, but don't think it's a straightforward decision for Liverpool.

My team atm with 1.4 ITB to spend. Held off on Son so far and keeping Jackson. A benching headache as expected. Avoiding a WC but have lost and will lose TV. Only 1 FT.
    Turner (Flecken)
    Chilwell Udogie Saliba (Estu Gusto)
    Saka Foden Maddi Bruno (Mbeumo)
    Jackson Alvarez Haaland

Problems are who to swap for Son or should I leave it?
Gusto can stay until I know Rjames situation. Saliba not ideal but a wasteful tfr to move him out.
How long will Turner last? I could move on Chilwell but will lose TV if I want him back.
Looking at GW9 WC but I might not need it. It will cost me 8 points to avoid if no other emergencies arrive.

Your team is extremely strong. Nothing really to do except maybe Bruno > Son but I probably wouldn't even do that considering you have Maddison already.

          team is really strong!

re son, the 2 obvious candidates to swamp him for are foden and bruno, but both could backfire. I'd probably lean towards foden of the two, due to his rotation risk etc.

great squad but looking at your 3 upfront I can imagine the benching headaches!

            • 10 Years

You clearly understand my dilemma. Sometimes we choose players for the wrong reasons. You are spot on about Foden but I love watching him play and the wind up when he does not. I chose 8 strong forwards for the inevitable injury and late arrivals from international breaks. All teams are rotating these days and Pep roulette sickness is spreading. The Newcastle/Brighton/Villa/Arsenal/ManU/Citeh/WHam/Pool 2 games in a week will affect teams. Chelsea and Spurs less so.
It remains an expensive benching headache though for sure.

I'm a bit unsure about Newcastle actually - they've had a bit of a wobble, so really not sure on Trippier. If you want attacking upside but don't care about cleansheets, you'd be as well off with Cash... but for me Newcastle haven't been strong enough defensively.

A random ITK for Newcastle said at the start of the summer that Al Ittihad were after Salah for next summer. A few weeks ago he suggested that they were looking to offload Jota (ex Celtic) as he hadn't turned out as expected, and wanted to expedite the move for Salah. Maybe someone close to Salah has indicated that he might be willing to move now.

Liverpool are not going to win the league this year, with or without Salah. The question is whether they can get a CL spot without him.

You'd think ManC, Arsenal and Spurs will get the first 3 spots, but Chelsea and United don't look great. Newcastle? Brighton? You wouldn't think so....so maybe Liverpool can grab 4th without Salah...

      1. Andy_Social

That 4th spot and a run to the quarters next season will be worth about half what the Saudis are offering now. It would make financial sense for Liverpool to go down Spurs' path and use this season as a rebuilding exercise.

    Chilwell Estu Udogie Cash
    Salah Saka Sterling Mitoma Rashford
    Haaland

    Turner, Joao P, Baldock, Mubama

    Should use wildcard now, right?

Not sure that needs a WC. Couple of transfers should sort it out (FT's or a -4)

Thanks, what moves would you make here? Not having Mbuemo is costing me, and then of course need to try and get Son/Maddison/ + maybe Alvarez/Foden

Depends on FT's and money itb. I'd probably just consider something like Mitoma to Mbuemo or Diaby and J Pedro to someone else (Awonyi? Alvarez?). Defence looks fine (apart from Pickford but minor position so not super important to rectify). Midfield looks fine except Mitoma (imo - although plenty keeping him). Bench is light but not a major problem. If Salah leaves it's probably WC time though.

Thanks for the detailed answer, appreciate it! Don't have the money for Mitoma > Mbuemo but Diaby can be done. At least I know I can get by a few more weeks without a WC. I prefer to hold on unless major surgery is required!

I'd consider JP to Archer now, Baldock to Henry in GW6. Doubles down on the 4-5-1 with playing subs and a rotating back 4. I wouldn't touch your front 7 until things get clearer or the Sterling (GW9) and Saka (GW8) fixture turns. Maybe Mitoma to Diaby in GW8 or if he's rotated

apparently Chelsea interested in Ivan Toney after Didier Drogba visited Cobham and gave a very detailed presentation on the importance of the player who can put the round thing in the net and help you win a football match. because up until now they thought a 'no 9' was akin to father xmas or leprechauns

Most players who moved to Stamford Bridge as a "9" were prolific in their previous season(s).

They're better off checking the magnetic fields around the place.

My midfield is Saka, Odegaard, Bruno, Rashford and Mbeumo. I feel over invested in Arsenal and Man Utd, and I'd planned to transfer either Rashford or Odegaard for Maddison this week and both of them scores. Bollocks. Who should I transfer out for the Spurs man?

Gotta say though, they're all in the top 10, point's-wise, and what's more important to me - it's steady points, not the one hit wonders of Bowen, Sterling and Son.

Not touching Newcastle attack, for the exact reason displayed in your question: no idea who'll play regularly

In the current FPL landscape, I've spent a lot of time thinking about the Newcastle run... And realised it's only Schar for me, and not a moment before GW6, at least for now

By the way, look at those fixtures for Salah... Just like Liverpool, I'm not really looking to sell him

      1. Ze_Austin

Made a hash of that there: you're buying Salah. I like that, of course 🙂

But not Newcastle attackers. If the popular mids are out of reach, consider JWP set-and-forget

The challenge with the Newcastle assets is that we don't know what Howe will do once the CL starts. It would be great to bring in Salah when Liverpool's fixtures switch, but personally I'd rather go with someone more nailed than Gordon/Barnes.

thanks for the feeback, agree Newcastle is a bit punty

I'm a hammer and can't do JWP, love him but not exciting from FPL perspective. Also early fixtures still tough and I'm waiting for Kudus to knock Benrahma out of the team and then see who's on pens before buying one of my lot. Paq is class and if on pens definitely better 6m pick than JWP.

Easy to get twitchy over price rises, especially early in the season whilst the casual players still fairly engaged. In my specific case I've got a team that's had a fairly poor week and at an OR or 1.6m. Not a strong start but there are 34 weeks to make it up and I still trust most of my squad, I'd probably only change 4 or 5 if I were to WC and most of those are marginal where the player I bring in could easily do worse than the guy he's replacing.

I quite like that if he leaves. Some reservations about double up on Spurs attack and Son after one good game but even harder games in Spurs' next 6 (Arsenal and Liverpool) are dodgy at the back so would say they are fairly good picks. Not sure about Bowen, a tough run coming up, Mbuemo is the one that jumps out as missing.

    B) Eze+Mubama > Diaby+Foster
    C) Eze+Mubama > Rodrigo+Ferguson
    D) ?

    Areola
    Estu - Chilwell - Colwill

I’d keep Eze and wouldn’t have double brentford attack, so:
Foden+Wissa to Maddy+Alvarez affordable? If not, maybe Ferguson, but not sure how nailed.

Bit of a long one bare with me, I took a look at how many expected clean sheets checkthechance based on bookies odds had indicated so far and combined that with some xgc data to see who was doing okay.

Expected clean sheets from opening 4 games - top 6:
    Man City 2.01
    Arsenal 1.73
    Chelsea 1.58
    Brighton 1.45
    Man Utd 1.31
    Brentford 1.24

Expected clean sheets from opening 4 games - bottom 6:
    Fulham 0.68
    Bournemouth 0.69
    Nottingham Forest 0.73
    Wolves 0.82
    Sheff Utd 0.90
    Newcastle 0.96

Should note I've taken out Burnley and Luton from the bottom 6, having only played 3 games they obviously came bottom of the rankings and they would be the bottom 2 on a per games average too but given they'd have played each other in that missed game it would have boosted their expected clean sheets significantly if the game happened so it felt more appropriate to leave them out.

The real standouts from a negative perspective and the xgc data backs this up are Brighton and Man Utd. The other 4 in the top 6 for expected clean sheets sit 1-4 in the xgc table (for lowest - City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Brentford) whereas Brighton and Man Utd sit 4th and 5th bottom.

From a positive, most of the bottom 6 for expected clean sheets are near the bottom on xgc too, Nottingham Forest are a real outlier sitting comfortably in midtable. They've had a really tricky start and it suggests that Chelsea result wasn't the fluke most want to paint it out to be, they've really improved defensively, particularly away from home where they had the worst defence in the league last season.

Also note that Newcastle were expected to be quite low for clean sheets so far reflecting that tricky run they've had, their xgc data is pretty reasonable I think considering that run and I wouldn't be ignoring Trippier based on what they've actually done.

Great analysis. I'm on a WC so re-evaluating data. I am going cheap-cheap in defence this time with Estupinan and 4 (originally) 4.5s. That's why I'm going with Botman over Trippier - the low clean-sheet potential together with the long long run without a clean sheet suggests to me Toon even with their fixture run doesn't have enough CS upside to justify Trippier's price.

      1. Eze Really?
        • 10 Years
        1 year, 1 month ago

My thoughts entirely. I am edging towards cheap or attacking defenders. Chilwell fits into this category but compared to Udogie for example, he is not viable, especially with the fixture pile up and fewer clean sheets all round.

I think there's enough there to tell me Man Utd and Brighton's defences aren't what people expect them to be. Brighton has been pretty obvious from just watching the games without the data to be fair. Man Utd obviously have some injuries. De Zerbi went to the Kevin Keegan school of coaching aka you score 3 we'll score 4.

So not only a big payday for LFC, apparently this is what Salah could be in for.

£2.45m a week with extra incentives.

Large percentage of shirt sales, a £55,000 win bonus as well as ambassadorial roles for at least three major Saudi companies for the duration of his contract.

That could be worth an extra £18m with each firm willing to pay him £6m each.

He has not scored in a while so not sure if they have a better player? I am strongly considering Harry Wilson but he then takes a midfield spot (but does allow Foden to son).
