Because De Zerbi is quoted that they don't have too many solutions in that position.

          I'd agree that it's still slim but that's why there's a chance.

That is fair. I’d just be wary of him getting 60 tonight and then a 45 min run out on Sunday. But could be the other way around as well. Tough to call

  5. GW12 captaincy debate

What are people's thoughts on captaincy this week? Been between Salah and Haaland but not fully sure on either.

Looking at recent results, the last 4 games between City and Chelsea have ended 1-0 to City so they've been tight. Liverpool v Brentford has tended to favour the home side (Liverpool won last 2 at Anfield, Brentford won 1 and the other was 3-3 at Brentford). Despite two clean sheets in their last 3 I'm not convinced Brentford are any better defensively given those were against Burnley and a misfiring Chelsea, and they've conceded nearly 5xG in those last 3 games combined. Chelsea have had a few good results of late and do look better, but I'm not convinced by them either. The goals they conceded v Brentford were very poor (especially the first), and I'm also thinking the improved results might mean they're a bit more adventurous against City which might be their downfall. Still, xGC isn't bad.

On the other side, Liverpool didn't look great against Luton (although I don't see Brentford sitting that deep against them) but I'd expect a reaction to that result here, and City look like they're picking things up after a little attacking blip (similar ones they've had in recent seasons), but the Stones injury may be a big blow. I don't think it was a big coincidence that their run of losses against Newcastle, Wolves and Arsenal were all games he missed, and their winning run since then (starting v Brighton) all came with Stones back.

I'm wary of captaining Saka, have done it before and has rarely gone well. Odegaard doubts as well as doubts over Saka himself would make me steer clear, I could see it being like City v Bournemouth where points are mostly spread out

I was just about to post something on captaincy and how it's not a clear option for me this GW.

Some interesting % for 2+ goals from Drafthound which may be considered for captaincy.

      Brighton 56%
      Arsenal 55%
      Liverpool 48%
      Man United 45%
      Villa 36%
      Newcastle 33%
      Man City 29%

      Anytime scorer odds:

      Haaland 1.90
      Salah 2.05

City play last in the gameweek and rather have my captain as late as possible personally.

      Going for Haaland.

No idea, or too many ideas...
No Haaland makes it somewhat easier & I wouldn't really expect Chelsea to be too adventurous. Hard to judge their defence atm but City aren't typically scoring from quick breaks so its Sanchez's wobbles that would be the main concern.

I didn't manage to see the Liverpool v Luton game but I think my expectations for Salah would be about par with the NFO game. I'm also not entirely convinced that Brentford's defence is anywhere near their best currently & the depleted options at WB could be an issue.

Son & Trippier are right in the mix for me too. Waiting for news on Maddison but I'm actually bussed on Son. Seeing Bournemouth's stats on defending set pieces is also a big draw for Trippier but I'm just slightly uncertain how his threat would be affected if he plays LB

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
        • 4 Years

Would definitely consider Trippier if I had him. I actually think Son is on paper the best choice, but too many variables putting me far off the choice (Maddison potentially out, 3 defenders out, early kickoff, etc.)

I can offer one thought in substance. Saka a no no IMO. No Odegaard, playing wide, no output for a long time. Only the fixture has any value.
I think Rodri was key in Citeh losses more than anything.

Still on the no Haaland train (and it’s going fantastically so far, even outside of the captaincy) and one of the reasons for it was exactly as above - the 1-0 controlled wins against Chelsea doesn’t scream points.
Salah at home is different to Salah away, so I’m on him.
Other options in midfield to consider are Saka if you an determine if Arteta is a liar, Son away to a wolves side that don’t keep clean sheets (pending team makeup) or Bruno for any goal involvement within that Man U side.
I’m also expecting a lot of Watkins captaincies as well this week.

any suggestions with 2 FT and £0.2 ITB? I can't upgrade Maddison to Saka due to funds, would need additional £0.4

    Areola - Turner

    Maddison - Son - Diaby - Salah - Bowen
    Watkins - Haaland - Archer

I know Burnley want to press where possible but I don't think Kompany is so reckless as to play the kind of high line he tried at home to Villa & Spurs at Emirates. And "fully fit" / "90 mins" look like big assumptions right now

Kind of the opposite, said they didn't call up Martinelli last time on the basis that they were informed he wasn't fit, then turned out he was fit before the IB, so Diniz said he wants the CBF to get to see Jesus themselves

Porro is a pretty clear cut bench imo. I was planning to start TAA/Trippier/Digne ahead of him even before Monday's chaos

Is Emerson Nailed for West Ham and could he be a good pick?

He's their best option at LB but West Ham are very leaky and he's hardly an assist magnet. I'd look elsewhere

I captained Trippier at home to CRY. Although I ended up with 20 points I wouldn't recommend it. I think Palace had about 15 attempts on goal. It was a horrible watch.

Pervis Estupinan has travelled to Ajax with the group. ‘He will be on the bench. Maybe he can play [a] part. I won’t take a risk with him as we need him for an important game on Sunday, and we don’t have many solutions in that position.’

    De Zerbi on Estupinan.

If we get confirmation of Saka and Maddison being out for this GW... are these transfers good you think?

    Maddison + Saka to Son + Trossard/Martinelli

Yeah pretty much. But could afford Martinelli instead, but think Trossard plays CF again (unless Arteta tries something stupid like that lanky useless fella they bought this summer as a CF).
