    On WC

    a) Gordon/foden
    b) Darwin/Solanke/Watkins

Rest of the team is painfully template:

    kelleher, Pickford
    Lascelles, gusto, Gabriel, ait-nouri, udogie
    Saka, salah, son, palmer
    Muniz, haaland

Can’t bring myself to go without haaland.

Nice, even got the tune going in my head while reading it lol

Wasn't a waste of a FH for me as I would have only had I think it was 4 players (could even have been as bad as 3) so whatever my FH team scored, even in a 'bad' week, it was definitely going to be more than my original team 😀

Also, by going FH29 it allowed for me to get Saka in GW26 who scored a 10 pointer (followed by a 7 and then 2). Lots of people look at playing the FH as a SGW play, but for me it also helped me in the weeks running up to BGW29 too 🙂

        All team dependent innit 😉

What do you think is a decent score from your bench when playing a Bench Boost? The common reasoning is that you should play it on a DGW and get as many doublers as possible so a return of (4 x 2) x 2 points = 16 points should be the minimum. However this year the doubles don't look that great and I'm finding it hard to come up with a plan which allows you to have a strong bench. GW34 has better fixtures but you will need to get rid of your Spurs and Chelsea players beforehand (unless you want to bench boost your Chelsea players away at Arsenal) and in GW37 I can see there being rotation issues and very few clean sheets (remembering that on a BB nearly half of your team will be goalkeepers or defenders).

With that in mind, I'm currently on a WC and now giving serious thought to playing the BB in GW31. Once I pick my strongest 11, the bench will look something like
Sa (bur) Lascelles (EVE) Udogie (whu) and Muniz (nfo)

Could totally backfire of course but if I can get maybe a clean sheet and an attacking return for a total of around 15 points I think that's a fairly decent score and certainly possible with that bench.

Good idea or have I lost the plot?

      1. aapoman
        • 11 Years
        7 months, 29 days ago

I'd be happy with a 15 point bench boost. People need to remember that BB is mostly for defensive players (1gk + usually 2 defenders + mid/fwd). I'm not against BB31 since it allows you to get it out of the way and just focus on strongest possible 11. However the possibility of a huge bench boost is always tempting.

Yeah, getting it out of the way is a big plus. Otherwise can see myself taking hits to bring in something like a Brighton defender.

I posted about this yesterday. I actually worked out that I could end up with *more* total games between now and the end of the season by bench boosting 32 and benching Chelsea/Spurs players in 34.

I think the key is not to look only at the week you play any given chip, but at what that strategy does to the weeks around it. As another example, my free hit last week was a disaster in isolation, but in the weeks running up to it I gained about 30 points on my mini league leaders by not having to worry about signing dross that played in 29.

Agreed. I played FH last GW with how it effected the weeks around it more in mind than points gained in GW29 itself which was just 6 but I'm still glad I played the chip as I wouldn't have got the 5 green arrows in a row and massive rank decrease (almost 400%) in the 5GW that preceded it if I was using FTs to bring in players with a fixture in GW29.

BB is basically 3 defenders + 1 attacker, not a lot of points, probably why I'm leaning towards BB34 & WC35 to focus on XI players in last 3 weeks

I actually considered this line. I don't think it's that bad honestly.

You get the BB out of the way and then you setup for the run-in without needing to care about it. The fixtures you get are quite strong for this week and those players have utility later as well.

He’s been confirmed as young and needing to learn. It feels odd that he’s considered not ready to play for Bournemouth but sought after by bigger clubs. Is ‘needing to learn’ code for being dropped because he’s pissed off about him putting exciting transfers above his team?

I agree, I’ve seen this so many this so many times. And in Kerkez’s case, I wouldn’t think he’s shown enough yet to demonstrate he’s going to hold down a first team place at Utd or Chelsea. But what do I know.

9am and still no press conference times. 😡

We need them to officially announce the end of this horrifically slow international break.

      Have to bench one:

      1) Toney
      2) Watkins
      3) Saka
      4) Solanke

Or could play all but really want to bring both Salah and Palmer, thoughts?

Been between 1 and 3 mostly, Saka could do good with City's injuries but the same can be said about Toney at home...maybe avoid a hit for Palmer/Salah, just get one and start all 1-4?

I have similar dilemma and I'm closer and closer to bench Saka, first game was really cagey, not much action until 75', hope this one will be the same.

Your sofa to hide behind when Haaland plays?

In all seriousness, I like it. I probably would avoid VVD - I think he's a bit too pricey for his upside. But I guess without Haaland you might as well spend the cash on him and he can always be easily downgraded. If I played WC, that would be at least 90% of my team I think.

If you see my other posts, I genuinely think no Haaland is a viable strategy. Personally, there are viable captains in your team through the next few weeks, so as long as they match Haaland (not unreasonable) and you can gain more points from that £6-£7m you're saving being distributed elsewhere then I would go for it.

The caveat is that I am holding a WC so I can chicken out of the no-Haaland strategy the moment I get FOMO.

Sell one for Salah (the remaining two will start as well)

      A: Foden
      B: Saka
      C: Bowen

I feel like my entire strategy comes down to Haaland. I don't have him, won't get him this week (getting Salah and Palmer) but probably need him at some point. Plan is to FH34 and BB37. Having had a good look at it, which strategy looks best?

      a. WC30 (saves a hit this week, can get Haaland, Salah and Palmer, long way to go to BB37)
      b. WC35 (no Haaland until WC although could have him on FH34)

I don't think I would captain Haaland in 30-32 so feel confident that any hauls would be offset by having stronger options accross the rest of the pitch. However its that Luton game in 33 at the Etihad that worries me. Although it is sandwiched by the Real Madrid fixtures, so arguably could be ripe for rotation....

        I strongly favour wildcard now.

        It just makes more sense.

Gw35 feels too late to me.

I had flags and I hit it early and am trying to make some hay in gw30-33 too.

I know what you mean, but having planned my team for the coming weeks I feel pretty happy until 33, can FH in 34 and then play the WC.

Given, even on a WC, I am not 100% on Haaland, I think the major delta would be in the forward line. I would have a Salah, Saka, Foden, Palmer, Son midfield so only need 2 forwards. Have Watkins and Toney (Morris benched) this week, can shift Watkins to Darwin next week (Morris still benched) - would then be ok keeping Darwin (YC pending) and Toney in 32 and 33. Maybe the only delta is I'd have Isak instead of Toney which isn't a nailed on benefit. Defensive line wouldn't be hugely different.

Currently I don't think Pep has benched Haaland during a congested period. Likely a start but lower xMins if the game is over early.

I think it is somewhat clutching at the proverbial straws, but just because he plays doesn't mean other rotation/tiredness from a gruelling tie vs Real Madrid doesn't impact his output.

Yup clutching. City rotate players and start the likes of Alvarez, Bobb, Grealish/Doku etc against the worst defence in the league

Thoughts on this WC please ... Still have FH and BB

      Onana, Petrovic
      Gabriel, Udogie, Gusto, Lascelles, Bradley
      Salah, Son, Foden, Palmer, Odegaard
      Haaland, Isak, Muniz

I'd worry you have two cheap defenders who are not as nailed as you want for their BB - and their cheapness makes it hard to do much with them. As much a I rate Muniz, I presume you bench him most weeks and when you BB in 34 or 37 he plays LIV and MCI respectively so feel like that is a booked transfer.

Basically I think you are WC into some headaches, which become worse with some unexpected injuries - too much sacrifice for that strong 5 midfield plus Haaland (which is one of the reasons I am mulling over not going for Haaland)

        Don’t bother with Gabriel.

The only time you’d use him between now and selling him is Luton (FH34 doesn’t count). It just forces an additional transfer. Why not just have Dalot/Ake/Van Hecke now?

I like the Odegaard shout over Saka.

I would advise you drop Foden to Richarlison and then switch Odegaard to Foden later on.

      Plan is to WC31.

Which 2 players among this list would you start this GW?
      1) Palmer -4
      2) Salah -8 (need to downgrade one more player to get Salah)
      3) Saka
      4) Bowen
      5) Elanga

If you are set on WC31 then I would probably hold off on Salah (-8 not worth it if you can WC him next week).

I think 1 is captain material this week, so i'd say him. I'd then play 3 over Bowen at Newcastle and anyone from Forest

Don't like - 8 before WC unless you feel strongly it'll pay off in 1 GW.

Palmer depends on if you have Son (C) already in your team.

-8 too much for Salah imo.
