Euro 2024 Fantasy: The best €4.0m defenders

Fantasy managers have always loved €4.0m starting defenders, from John Lundstram to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

They’ll be a necessity for many Euro 2024 Fantasy bosses, too, with the big guns further forward costing a pretty penny.

It’s not just bench fodder we’re after here.

Maximilian Mittelstadt

  • Country: Germany
  • Favourable fixtures: MD1 (Scotland), MD2 (Hungary), MD3 (Switzerland)

A name you would have heard maybe more than any other in the lead-up to Euro 2024 Fantasy.

Maximilian Mittelstadt (€4.0m) is the cheapest route into the Germany backline and at least looks secure of a start in Matchday 1.

You can’t be completely certain of what follows; David Raum (€5.0m) is an alternative at full-back, if Mittelstadt has a stinker against Scotland.

But the attacking Mittelstadt has really caught the eye at Stuttgart in the season just gone, netting twice and registering four assists in the Bundesliga.

He wasn’t even capped before the March internationals but his meteoric rise seems to have secured the left-back berth.

Mittelstadt scored against the Netherlands in his second appearance for his national team and even took corners in the first June friendly against Ukraine.

A half-time withdrawal in the Euro 2024 hosts’ final pre-tournament game is a slight concern but the suggestions are that he starts in the curtain-raiser. And we’ll at least get to see the teamsheets if the worst-case scenario does happen.

    For anyone playing Fanteam, Yildiz is a starting 4.5 fwd with a fantastic opening fixture. I think I will bench Sabitzer (vs France) for him in GW1

      Yildiz isn't guaranteed to start but as a Juve fan I can tell you he's a brilliant. Worth a go at that price.

        Thank you! I have seen him predicted as a starter everywhere except, as have just spotted, the FFS Turkey team preview. But he's in the FFS predicted team right now.

        Even if he comes off the bench, I expect him to do more vs Georgia than many players will get in 90 minutes in MD1. I haven't seen him play but I am excited anyway 😀

        Yep I went in big at the front in my first draft (Kane, Mbappé, Ronaldo) but decided to go with Portugal 'coverage' via Fernandes and Cancelo and save a load of money.

      Thought I'd have a go at fan team too as it's way more hands off which I like. Seems to me there's like 15 decent forwards and very few midfielders - opposite of the FPL games. So I probably wouldn't want to waste a slot on someone like Yildiz (ngl, never heard of him).

      As for my team, have read 0 content and generally know very little about international football. Probably reflected in my picks. 3 England, 3 Germany, 3 Belgium, 2 Netherlands.

        It's interesting we have such different teams! but I like yours.

        As there are multiple entries allowed in the £10 game, I have decided not to hedge my bets, as the teams at the top of the leaderboard will undoubtedly comprise multi-teams - block defences etc. This means going against Netherland and Germany completely, and going harder on England, Spain, Portugal.

        Fodder bench is the best way IMO. The Fanteam pricing is so stingy you need every 0.5m you can get.

    What do you think the best chip strategy is?

    Normally in these games I burn them in MD2 and MD3, but might it be worth carrying the Wildcard to the quarter finals? And if so, which MD would you limitless?

          Make sure not to burn them in MD2 and 3. One MD should be more than enough time to triple cook 'em.

        Imo both in group stage. MD2 Limitless (as all of the best teams still have points to earn), WC MD3 when it will be easier to complete squad within budget.

      Hello

      I am setting my team up for MD1 and MD2.

      Currently have Guehi, I do have the cash to change to Trent, but want whoever is most likely to start both games.

      What % chance do you think they start both?

        I have the same dilemma.

        To answer your question, I think Guehi has the better chance to start both game weeks, but for me, Trent offers a far greater chance of offensive returns.

        I do, however, feel Southgate will take the chance to go more defensive against Denmark in MD2. Therefore, unless TAA makes himself undroppable in the first game, his chances of playing both match days are considerably reduced.

      In what way does Trent make the midfield more solid assuming Jude goes 10? If anything, it makes things far weaker than when Mainoo partnered Rice. I could understand the likes of Gallagher or Wharton in there with Rice, to prevent what happened v Iceland last week. Something's not quite right with this Trent '8' theory.

              Funnily enough I already did that, but I couldn't find the information I was looking for, including on the official Euro 24 website. How silly of me to think that posting on a fantasy football forum where discussions are underway on Euro 24 was an acceptable form of secondary research while I continue to search!
