Pre-Season

FPL 2024/25 pre-season page now live

…and it’s live! The European Championship is still ongoing but as it’s now July, we’ve launched our pre-season page for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

It’s a skeletal article at this stage, of course, but every bit of content we write over the summer will be added to this one-stop shop for the new season. So, bookmark it and keep coming back.

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has yet to relaunch; it surely won’t be too long now. When it does, there will be price reactions, position-by-position analysis and first-draft team reveals.

In the meantime, there is still plenty of useful information on our page even at this early stage. All the pre-season friendly dates are listed, as well as the transfer ins and outs so far.

Initial reaction to the 2023/24 Premier League fixture release is also included.

To come over the next six weeks or so will be analysis of all 20 top-flight clubs, Scout Reports on new signings like Igor Thiago, Moving Target articles on those players switching allegiance and research into new managers.

Notes on the summer friendlies, predicted lineups for Gameweek 1, a set piece takers guide – you name it, we’ll have it.

A lot of our content is free but, to gain access to every single article we publish and benefit from all the tools and stats on offer in our Premium Members Area, subscribe from as little as £3.25 a month by signing up.

There’s something else coming very soon, as you’ll see below…

Use or hold WC? If I use WC I would probably be gambling on England/Netherlands to qualify to have a full 15 for the semis.

    No WC, 3 FTs:
    Kane Mbappe Morata
    Bruno Musiala Gundo Williams Simons
    VVD Cancelo Mendes Cucurella LeNormand
    Pickford Verbruggen

    WC:
    Kane Mbappe Gakpo
    Bellingham Bruno Musiala Simons Williams
    Walker Stones DeVrij Kounde Cucurella
    Costa Verbruggen

No need to WC whatsoever, hold.

Definitely hold- good team. Morata perhaps main weakness over Gakpo owners

Already have Gakpo - which is better?

    A) Depay, Bellingham
    B) Kane, Simons

I'm going for A. I'll have Depay, Gakpo, VVD and De Vrij for NED and Bellingham, Walker and Pickford for ENG.

Think I'll have to get rid of Mbappe. Not as effective with the mask. Can also see the QF being a low scoring affair.

Mbappe, Baumgartner, Guehi ➡ Gakpo, Simons, Stones

Will wildcard for the semis and hope Mittelstadt plays

        Pickford, Costa
        Hernandez, Carvajal, Cucurella, Mittelstadt, Guehi
        Bellingham, Musiala, Fernandes, Williams, Baumgartner
        Kane, Mbappe, Havertz

Good moves but see what happens with Mittelstadt first..

        Still have WC but...

        Pickford, Costa
Mendes, Cucurella, Carvajal, Van Dijk, Guehi ***
Musiala, Williams, Fernandes, Sabitszer ***, Baumgartner ***
        Kane, Mbappe, Morata

        A) Dumfries, Vargas (or Ruiz), Simons
        B) Normand, Bellingham, Aebischer
        C) Dumfries, Simons, Gakpo (keep Sabitzer, Morata out)
        D) play WC

What is the advantage to holding a WC for the semis against playing it now in the quarters?

Makes it easier to get 11 starters with 5 FT for final.

Hold if you want to hedge SPA v GER & FRA v POR, if too unsure of the outcome. Safe option, can't get caught out with a short squad in the SF.

Play it now if you want to gain an edge with extra Netherlands or Swiss picks. Might be last chance to get some good differentials (could also punt on e.g. Güler).

I still have wildcard and limitless and basically a full squad still in. Only one I have to deal with is Guehi because he’s suspended. Don’t really know how to play it best.

          Limitless QF.

WC SF. Can do a split that should give you 11 min, with 5 FT, for final that you just need 11 starters and lineups known before deadline.

Yeah, I think 3 is enough, 4 is absolute maximum. Too risky otherwise.

I have no WC. Currently with:

          2 SPA
          2 GER
          2 POR
          2 FRA
          3 ENG
          4 NED

Best case scenario, I have 4 players eliminated (if ENG and NED go through).
Worst case scenario, I have 11 players eliminated (if ENG and NED go out).

If i swap 1 ENG and 1 NED for 1 SWI and 1 TUR, best case will be 6 players eliminated and worst case will be

Not sure what is the best strategy, though...

Best 4.5m defender for day 2 sub?
Konsa (good clean sheet odds but no guarantee he starts)
Rodríguez (not so good clean sheet odds, but guaranteed starter and better chance of goal contribution)
        (I have Pickford in goal)

With the new approach to the FA Cup & Mickey Mouse Cup resulting in less expected DGW\BGW, is it worth targeting GW1 for bench boost?

By doing so we effectively making the most out of additional 3rd wild card.

not for me, its never really worked that and we have zero data to go on in GW1, so many unknowns. I have scored 50 points on a BB before so i dont know why you would want to waste it early, its a really useful chip.

Yes there will be less DGWs but there will still be some and thats before weather and other events that can impact games being postponed.

I never done it, therefore tempted to roll the dice although agree that lack of eye test in competitive games is a worry.

can anyone tell me when FPL opened last time there was a Euros/World Cup? Wondering if they wait until it finishes?

Last Euros (2021), Fantasy opened June 22nd.
World Cup 2018, Fantasy opened 5th July.

interesting thanks, thinking back i guess 2018 is irrelevant as that was the Qatar World Cup in Nov

That euros opening date is v early though

That's why I did 2018 World Cup instead of 2022.
              2018 was Russia; (June-July), 2022 in Qatar in Nov-Dec.

I need a Friday playing keeper to replace Nita alongside Pickers. My only German defender is Mittlestadt so I'm thinking bench him and get Neuer? Or double up on France/Portugal? Gives me

        Neuer Pickford
        Cucerella Carvajal Cancelo Hernandez (Mittlestadt)

Why would you bench Middlestadt if you picked Neuer?
