Does anyone know how Slot handles the press and how honest he is with team news please? Unfortunately it was missing from this article https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2024/05/22/arne-slot-at-liverpool-what-we-can-expect-in-fpl/

    Cheers, guys!

Don't know, but I just treat every Managers press conferences as half truths, deception and smoke screens.

Anyone even considering Rash? Obviously a terrible season last year. But scored 170+ points in three of the last five seasons. Can he get back to scoring and outscore the 6.5M's? Remember two seasons ago he scored 205 while priced 6.5 after a terrible season..

Wouldn't touch any of our attackers unless we sort the midfield, and I especially wouldn't touch the wingers until Ten Hag settles on a pairing. We've still got Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho, Amad and Antony, and any pair of them could start, as it stands.

He had found his way into one of my drafts but I've seen moved on. I think it's better to wait and see than dive straight in with this pick.

Well, maybe you missed quite the eventful start to last season where we assumed he was nailed but saw him benched the first 3 games. Think it was a tactical quirk until Zinchenko became available to play LB (Saliba & White moved over one spot to the left when Timber/Tomi played RB).

Seems like Calafiori has been signed to play LB but he's also very comfortable as LCB, so for me there's still perhaps a 5% doubt over his nailedness

It makes a difference that most of the premiums won't get a lot of pre season minutes after coming back off holiday after the Euros and Copa.

Haaland has a full pre season and he's the easiest player to transfer out if and when it's needed.

Haven't watched any Villarreal matches, so don't have any opinion on him.

But for a new Chelsea GK, that sounds about right. Buy a bad GK, play him a season or two, buy a new GK rinse and repeat.

Me either - judging by his FBref profile here: https://fbref.com/en/players/0107757e/Filip-Jorgensen (that Scouting Report is stinky, and he has a negative PSxG) and the comments on Chelsea's subreddit who are, quite rightfully, wondering why the club has bought 3 poor-to-average keepers for buttons instead of just going in for someone like Costa or Maignan.

Yeah really weird they aren't going for those two or even Kobel who had a pretty good season for Dortmund. Or even Mamardashvili.

Oh well as a MU, I don't mind it if they keep fcking up their transfers.

I would have put money on them going for Mamardashvili or Bulka, so it's really weird they're faffing around with Jorgensen. "Buy cheap, buy twice" as they say.

There's comments re: premium defenders less likely to score baps due to the new rules.

Has anyone - or is it even possible to - overlay the new rules on a game from last season to see if this assumption can be validated?

Or is it such a no brainer this would be a waste of time?

      1. luk46
        • 6 Years

havent done research about it, but you’re usually getting premium defenders for cs as well as attacking potential - if one keeps a cs nothing changes! it’s basically just -4 bps for a goal conceded, so if someone then gets an attacking return bonus are less likely… it doesn’t put me off

Yep, its been done. There's a segment on Black Box (split across the last 2 episodes) which looks at the biggest gainers / losers and a few example matches where the swing from GK/DEF to MID/FWD is particularly noticeable. I heard Above Average FPL also did a big recalculation of last season's BPS

Cheers, much appreciated mate. I think the attraction of 6M defenders lessens drastically when they're not likely to get 10+ points in a 1-0 win.

Predicting the best and worst VALUE player for each position...
      BEST...
      GK: Areola
      DEF: Porro
      MID: Doku

      WORST...

'only' played 2987 minutes haha. That's the vast majority of available minutes, barely a factor to consider.
Anyway, after listening to FPL BlackBox I've changed my mind about the best value defender. It will be a £4.5m from a team who don't concede a high volume of shots on target like Brentford.

      Been a while since I commented here... Think I've covered most of my bases here with this team, any feedback welcome (haven't tinkered too much). Gone for the Salah+Haaland-less team;

      Pickford
      Trent, Mitchell, Henry
      Palmer, Foden, Odegaard, Gordon, Kudus*
      Watkins, Isak (c)

      Virginia, Joao Pedro, Robinson, Davis

*I massively rate him but opening 5 fixtures are all FDR 3 or worse, could easily switch to MGW or a cheaper alternative like Rogers (not sure I want double Villa attack) which would free up 1.5M allowing me to upgrade JPedro to a 7M FWD or upgrade one of the 4.5M defenders?

As a West Ham fan, I'm very grateful we've kept hold of him, think he might be a steal at that price point (especially as we haven't signed a striker yet!)

              So, as we haven't signed a striker and Paqueta's ban hasn't landed I could see us lining up like this;

              GK
              Back Four
              Kudus, Paqueta, Guilherme
              Bowen

I'd love to have Bowen but the £1M saved can be better used elsewhere and the above formation does show Kudus out on the right which benefits his left-foot for cutting back to shoot

Haven't checked the rotating defensive pairing of Fulham and Brentford so not sure if that works.
MGW over Kudus for me personally.
Do you think Palmer and Foden can maintain last season's form? I'm not convinced.
I'd possibly consider Bruno over Odegaard due to initial fixtures and penalties
Lastly my thought is a Liverpool midfielder or forward is needed with their fixtures
        Hope that all makes sense

Add Leif Davis on to that duo and it's not awful
MGW would free up funds but Kudus is only going to get better for me
Don't rate Man U's attack personally
I'd love a Liverpool midfielder, but other than Salah doesn't do it for me and Gakpo too much of a risk

Nothing wrong with your team, but it feels like it should look stronger(?) considering there is no Haaland or Salah eating up most of your budget. You have no Arsenal or City defensive cover for example

I think when you consider every midfielder is a key player for the other big clubs though (and I think people still think Palmer is cheap as chips)

That being said it's easy to do Trent & Mitchell > 6.0 & 6.0 ARS/MCI def respectively ya know?

I understand Nkunku is a great price, great G/A at Leipzig and positive words from Maresca but I don't think I can ignore his injury history.

Currently leaning against taking the risk on him. His price point makes it easy to jump on if he stays injury free after starting a few games consecutively.

Palmer got 244 points off only 2600 minutes last season, could bring up 300 this season!

I agree, just add 5-10 more pens this season.

Saša Kalajdžić got 24 points off only 158 minutes last season, could bring up over 5000 this season!

A lesson I have learned in Allsvenskan Fantasy recently, which may also apply to FPL: it is very annoying when your 5m goalkeeper gets dropped and your 4m goalkeeper from a different team never plays. Don't think there's much danger of Onana, Vicaro or Pope losing their place but I'd favour Pickford and Leno with their 4m backups as it stands. Decent fixtures and not many will be going triple Everton/Fulham.

Then again, it is perhaps even more annoying when both of your 4.5m keepers get unexpectedly dropped two thirds of the way through the season (Eliteserien Fantasy, 2022) but that's a way off yet.

Yup! sound reasoning, got fed up picking the wrong rotating keeper last season. So Pickford/Virginia for me currently.

I usually rotate; last season I got 152 points from 7 different keepers compared to Pickford's 153. Only owned Pickford down the stretch but he averaged 9.4 points per GW when I started him, behind only Håland, Mateta, Palmer and Foden.

Was going to start with Verbruggen, currently on Flekken and Sa which isn't the best rotation. Talking myself into going back to Pickford.

The less you spend on GKs the better this season as the bonus points system screws them. No way Pickford gets 22 bonus points again. Flekken/Areola look best value unless a starting £4.0m comes to light.

      I have missed this 🙂

Any thoughts on this? Not sure why I fancy luis Diaz so much, just can’t fit in salah but want a Liverpool attacker in….

      Sanchez
      Konsa / Burn / Gvardiol
      Palmer / Eze / Diaz / Kudos
      Haaland / Watkins / Isak

      Bench: Turner / Winks / Faes / Harwood-Bellis

      1. WVA

You won’t want those keepers and you’ll probably want some Arsenal

Strong XI, weak bench. It is what it is. Sanchez probably one of the riskier 4.5s to pair with Turner.

Love watching Diaz but don't think he's clinical enough for FPL, plus lots of potential competition. He might do better with bonus points this year at least. Would play it safe with Gordon at home at that price.

Would you do Gordon & Gakpo over Diaz & Isak? Think it also frees up £1M to upgrade somewhere else (e.g. no Arsenal)

I do love Gordon, and had both isak and Gordon in for a while. I just think isak is gonna have a great season :-/
I will change lots before start like. So tempted to go without haaland. Can have so many then but just then impossible to get him in if he starts well

Can't decide my keeper, which will be one of the 4.5ers. Flekken and Areola more nailed, but fixtures aren't great. Sánchez uncertain, don't know who starts for Forest or Palace.

Beto at £5.0m looks a decent enabler if Dyche reverts back to his old Burnley 4-4-2.
