    How is this looking. Feel daft not including Haaland

    G: flekken, Areola
    D: Dalot, Gravidol, Munoz, myolenko, Davis
    M: eze, palmer, rogers, salah, CHO
    S: Watkins, Isak, Havertz

      I'd get a cheaper 2nd keeper and possibly Rogers to a 4.5. Then you've got 1m to upgrade elsewhere.
      Not keen on dalot at 5m. Could get saliba or even drop down to 4.5 and have 1.5 to spend?

      I feel like a Haaland-less team shouldn't need to have two sub-6.0 midfielders. Too much diffused money in defence imo - if I had three 5.0+ defenders I'd want to be starting them every week, so for my bench I wouldn't be looking for anything beyond starts. Both of those 4.5s are good for starts on a fairly regular basis (Davis obviously after the games against Liverpool and City), so I'd personally drop Dalot to a 4.0 such as Barco (as suggested by the article) and probably Munoz to Andersen/Guehi to be able to upgrade Rogers to a 6.5 mid. The other option is downgrading one of your strikers, as there are some good options at 6.0 you might want to take a look at anyway disregarding price (Wood, Muniz, Thiago once Brentford's fixtures turn and if he's nailed), so you might want to make space for that price point from the start and then use those funds in midfield. Even if you choose this option I'd recommend concentrating your defensive funds a little more though, because choosing three from those five is going to be a pain quite a lot of weeks.

    I've got 11m to spend on a defender and a midfielder. Both would be in my starting XI. Rest of my defence is cheap so currently I'm on CHO and Porro. Possibly could go with Rogers and an arsenal defender but relying on Rogers to start seems too risky. Maybe a 6.5 mid and 4.5 def would be a better split?

    How would you split the funds?

      I'd be happier with 4.5 and 6.5.
      Plenty options I'd be happy with.

        Thanks. You're probably right but would result in:
        4.5, 4.0
        4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.0, 4.0
        I don't think I've ever started with a defence that cheap!

      If you don't have a 6.5 mid already I'd definitely look to make space for someone because there *will* be a bandwagon from that group early doors. What's the rest of the draft like? I ask because I'd also be hesitant about entirely locking yourself out of the more premium defenders, so if the money can be found somewhere else I'd probably prefer to do that personally. With the choice you've given atm though, I'd say 6.5 mid and 4.5 def is probably the better option (although there are also a number of good 5.5 mids so what you're on isn't bad either).

        Thanks. If I could stretch to saliba then I'd like that but realistically something has to give if I want Haaland, Salah, Palmer and Isak
        Current structure is:
        4.5, 4.0
        5.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.0, 4.0
        12.5, 10.5, 6.5, 5.5, 4.5
        15.0, 8.5, 6.0

          Ah, nice. Ok, so given that you already have a 6.5 I'd say 5.5 and 5.5 is a very nice use of those funds.

    Arsenal fans in various places are seemingly insisting that Gabriel is pretty nailed as Saliba's partner

    Calafiori/Timber/Zinchenko at LB with the two former as the cover

      Didn't Zinchenko get dropped last season? (Not an Arsenal fan so it's eminently possible I'm wrong.)

        yeah, that's what the outlook seems to be

        picking two of Saliba/White/Gabriel is really tough

        tempted to have all three

                no problem. You could well be right

                Martinelli and Trossard cancel each other out

                Possibly similar for Havertz and Jesus and even if Havertz has that no.9 role I'm not saying he's a terrible option, but mids re-classified as forward 99.999% struggle imo

                Havertz as an 8m I'd be all over

    Is anyone looking at Fantasy Challenge yet? If so, how differential are you considering going, given the five-week mini-season? Current draft is Raya-Trent-Son-Gordon-Isak (C), but I'm considering an Arsenal defence double-up with White instead of Gordon.

      What would you say to these lovely opening fixtures for your defensive threesome?

      GW1 = CRY, lei, eve
      GW2 = EVE, NFO, WHU
      GW3 = SOU, lei, bre
      GW4 = EVE, LEI, IPS
      GW5 = WOL, NFO, IPS
      GW6 = WHU, ips, CRY/FUL

      13 home games (out of 18) and not one single match against any of last season's top 8 teams.

      What would you say if I told you these lovely fixtures only cost £21.5m for your ENTIRE DEFENSE!?

      Here's how you do it...

      Start with: Van de Ven, Collins, Andersen, Barco, TH-B
      after GW2: transfer Van de Ven out for Konsa
      after GW4: transfer out Andersen for Mykolenko or NFO's best £4.5m defender.

      By the end of GW6 you will still have 4 x FTs accumulated.
      Planned transfers can work kids.

        Booked transfers for low ceiling defenders doesn't seem great especially when the landscape at the start of the season is still unknown

        Some of the fixtures are wrong (GWs 2 & 3). Trying to do a quick count of how many CS in corresponding fixtures last year, I make it 3 and that includes BHA v NFO GW5 by which time Estupiñan might have taken Barco's place

          What do you mean GWs 2&3 are wrong?

          GW2: EVE = Van de Ven / NFO = TH-B / WHU = Andersen
          GW3: SOU = Collins / lei = Konsa / bre = TH-B

          I accept your point about Estu possibly replacing Barco by GW5 though.

          3 x 4.5 and 2 x 4.0 defenders doesn't offer a lot of flexibility. You're already booking in transfers ahead for your defenders and you'll be booking in more if your defenders don't end up playing.

          It's worth spending a little more to get stronger defenders and more flexibility in your team. Trent and 4 x 4.5 defenders is worth the extra outlay, you could have even better fixtures, and you'll have more cover in defence to cover unforeseen absences. And you wouldn't need to book a transfer in for the first 6 weeks if your defenders stay fit.

            Trent @ £7.0m!? He is the exact opposite of my new bps philosophy.
            The biggest compromised I'd make is 5 x nailed on £4.5m defenders, all with some goalscoring threat.

            Van de Ven, Andersen, Burn, Milenkovic, Dunk

        Well, I’d love some insight here… just went from a Salah team, to a non Salah non Haaland and now to a Haaland team… got 1m itb, what would you upgrade?

        Areola | Fab
        Robbo | Mykolenko | Andersen | Konsa | H-Bellis
        Saka | Gordon | Eze | H-Odoi | Winks
        Haaland | Watkins | Isak

          Would prefer a better set snd forget 2nd def and rotate 3rd/4th def for the last spot in a 3ATB.

          Pick the lowest owned 4.0m GK that you are unlikely to triple up.
