CHO because he has that extra better fixture in the short term. My guess is that type of area is a short term roll of the dice till more info emerges

ESR is a hell of a player. If he can hit the form he did a few seasons ago with Arsenal, he’ll be absolute gold. I’d argue he even had the edge over Saka at that point, unfortunately his career stalled due to injury. Good luck to him, I’d absolutely love to see him back to his best.

Was there any re Cole Palmer during pre-season or in the early weeks prior to his breakout? Were people quick to recognise and jump on?

First time I had him was Burnley away, think GW3/4 can’t remember.

But I only bought him because he was 4.9 or something

    Hey guys,

Just wondered how this Haaland draft looks?

Decided to go all out on City because of the first few fixtures - especially the Ipswich one, KDB over Foden for now as I think he gets more minutes to start with.

    Henderson
    Gvardiol Dalot Andersen Livramento
    Salah KDB Nkunku Bailey
    Haaland Isak

    0.0 itb

    Paulsen Johnson Sangare N Fraser

    thanks!!!

Thoughts on this Haaland & Salah draft:

    Pickford
    Saliba - Gvardiol - Burn
    Salah - Nkunku - Eze - CHO
    Haaland - Isak - Muniz

    Virginia - Rogers - J. Anderson - Faes

I like the first eleven a lot. But your bench is really weak. I would at least upgrade one 4.0 defender to a 4.5 defender (Burn, Andersen, Robinson, Mykolenko)

This is a really balanced draft.

I understand why it appeals. But there's too much in defense for me, and it is lacking in the 9.5m/10m mids who I want at least 2 of esp if you're a no Haaland draft.

Wood for first 3 I feel like, gotta see if he starts but think he will
Palmer a good pick, but chelski unknown and Nkunku simply 4m cheaper which may not warrant the price difference between the two

Does anyone else think that maybe the gambit at the start of this season should be double Spurs attack?

lei EVE is a super nice opening two games. Ange teams are very attacking and even though they'll probably concede, I'll bet they score at least 4 goals in those opening games.

Maybe the best thing to do is just start with Son + Johnson and then sell one come GW3.

interesting one. I've had Son for a while as a Saka/Foden/Palmer placeholder (worst case scenario)

          • 9 Years

I appreciate this is illogical, but there's always something about that last match in GW1 that offers something completely left field

ie can imagine an underwhelming GW1 and then bam, Spurs blitz Leicester. I mean from what I've seen on the likes of Faes/Vestergaard, it's not beyond the realms of impossibility

I think I will have Son if I don’t start with Haaland, if I somehow get both Salah and Haaland, Johnson might be the one

Can’t argue with the logic. Based on fixtures and Ange-ball, it’s a safer bet to go Son and Johnson over Palmer & Nkunku over first few fixtures (new manager uncertainty at Chelsea etc).

On the other hand, it’s Spurs. They just blow so damn hot and cold all the time

    4. GreennRed
      • 13 Years

On Johnson for now. Also have Porro. Son isn't bad value for 10 but he's splitting points with Spurs attacking threats and there's potential in mids from 6.5m to 9.5m. Plenty of time to change my mind yet.

One narrative may emerge as well, is everyone fixated on the 2.5m saved on going Salah over Haaland

What about the 2.5 saved on going Son over Salah?

Agree with the logic, but Spurs attackers burnt me bad last season, with the exception of Richarlison.
I was lucky enough to bring Rich in at the right time, but Son & Maddison were "tear your hair out" guys for me. When I jumped on they blanked, when I jumped off they went big.
I currently have Porro as my only Spurs asset at this point.

      1. Ser Davos
        • 9 Years

I wonder if Son is a sit and hold given his pedigree/heritage?

He's the same price whilst everyone else has had a significant price rise. When he's priced 9-10 that seems his sweet spot of reliability (if you can hold)

He went up in price too. He was 9m last season. I don't think people realize how bad the pricing was last year. Everyone was way cheaper than they should have been and it was super obvious even right from the start.

No Haaland or Salah which definitely helps the budget.

Plenty of value in mids and forwards and will try no fodder for first season in a long time. Hopefully can push FTs to 3,4 or 5 GWs.

other than Arsenal defence and/or Gvardiol, 4.5s look great to start with. Personally, Arsenal defence/Gvardiol supersede the 4.5s, but that's my subjective take

My problem with the 4.5s is determining which ones to actually go for? And is rotation all that? Often not. But as 1-2 point cheap enablers I see the logic

A few years back (2021), all the rage was with Veltman, Ayling and one other (much smaller 4.5 pool). For all the excitement, they were pants

but now rethinking with his rest & GW1 against a new Chelsea

They won't be as bad as under Pochettino. Maresca looks to have Jorgensen deal nearly done which will help them. Apparently the keeper is vital for his tactics.

It's not about how he has played. It's what Marseca can do with him and who he picks in the Chelsea defence. He could be brutal and he could be good. Same as a lot of keepers new to PL.

      looks great

      potential suggestions:

is Flekken that good of a goalkeeper? Bit like Sanchez; in that I think the best FPL GKs are all-round competent. I'm looking at Henderson atm (if anyone has any info re CPA)

MGW - cracking player, but not sure he's worth 1m over CHO

Havertz - this one area that's up there with death and taxes. Converted CAMs re-classified as FWDs 99% struggle. I did some thinking and I found a couple of examples that oppose that notion. Firmino 17-18 and Antonio start of 21-22 though did fall of a cliff v quickly

Foderingham is terrible. Unless Fab is now definitely a geriatric then he's still no.2

I'd honestly go for the best 4.5 even if the reserve isn't a 4

In Palace's case we don't even know if Henderson is no.1

Many years ago there was a Pulis 4.5 debate between Begovic and Sorensen. It was actually pretty obvious that Begovic was the main man and he absolutely bossed it that season

Havertz as an 8m mid I'd be all over, but as a forward. Logically and historically it doesn't work, but as an Arsenal attacker at that price I can see why there's a temptation. And you never know, he could be immense

A couple of examples that cone to mind are when Zaha and Arnautovic were classified as forwards. Everyone scrambled to get them as they were cheap... only they were forwards and now therefore terrible options

      No palmer

Possible two heavy in deference - I like Saliba but opening five fixtures
not great possible Arsenal defence afterwards

Different to strength some of fodder on the bench

    Sanchez (Iversen)
    Trent Gvardiol Burn (Mykolenko Barco)

without doubt Muniz will start the season, baring injury. Jimenez might take 15mins here and there, but during Muniz's real purple patch back end last season Silva just kept Muniz on for almost 90 most matches

Anyone worried about Havertz being a RR with Jesus having a good preseason?

Also why is everyone going for Gvardiol, arent MC defenders a RR too? (Ake also plays his position)

Any value GKs popping up on the preseason games chart?

Good question on City defenders rotation. On Gvardiol for now. Had a good run in to the season, especially attacking sense, but never can tell with Pep.

I would love some clarity on Gvardiol. I can't let him go, but if I knew he was roulette-no-go then I can move to another roulette: picking a decent 4.5

A brown cow was a nickname for a barrel of beer, specifically in the early 18th century in Scotland. “How now brown cow” was a way of asking for another pint. Since the late 19th century, it has been taken over as part of elocution lessons, as it is full of vowel sounds.

      A price point setup.

Ignoring exact players, how many of you formulate a template of values to fulfill for your team?

I think there are certain price points in particular positions we'll want to switch between based on fixtures and form.

Goalkeepers: As I see it the most value here is at 4.5. The 5m keepers have 4.5 defensive counterparts. Or aren't playing for particularly 'good' defensive teams.

Defenders: Huge value in the 4.5 market here. Great historically good defensive options to choose from. I would choose 1 premium 7-6. 3 x 4.5. 1 x 4.0

Midfielders: My preferred value setup here is 2 premium 12.5 - 9.5. 2 mid 7.5 - 6.5 and 1 cheap 5.5 - 4.5. The possible value of the 7.5 - 6.5 market here looks very appealing. You have some known quantities, such as Gordon and Eze at the higher end, but when you get to the 6.5 point we see some possibilities of absolute bargains. Players playing for typically very attacking teams, but brining with them the fear of a lack of minutes, or unknown system changes due to new management. I feel, if we have the values covered initially it allows us to hop onto the early performers quickly without restructuring.

Forwards: The price point I'm interested in here is the 7.5-7m bracket. It's difficult to cover initially, with our cheaper forward options coming in at 6m currently. But it's definitely one I'll be keeping a close eye on.

I pay no attention to price points whatsoever tbh, just pick individual players, roll the first FT and take it from there.

Maybe a bit later in the season when I have planned transfers I pay more attention to remaining budget & impact of certain moves on others, but not initially.

Spurs are looking really good preseason settled making me feel even less likely to go Salah AND Haaland. And ditch Salah.

Liverpool seem all over the shop preseason. Even starting to think will Liverpool get a clean sheet v Ispwich and moving to White instead of TAA?

I would then need to rotate white though, or suffer poor fixtures bench not big enough for that, I think. So stuck with three options.

      .5 itb
      Pickford (Sanchez)
      --
**TAA** - Gvardiol - Porro - Burn (Konsa)
      --
      Hudson-Odi-Gordon-**Johnson** (Rogers-Andreas)
      --
      **Watkins** - Haaland - Isak (C)

      Basically it is

      1) TAA - Johnston - Watkins - plus .5 in the bank

      or

      2) TAA - Son - Wood

      or

      3) Mykolenko (double everton defence) - Salah - Wood

      --

But the spurs ones look better particularly the Johnston one given that my bench is Sanchez - Rogers -Konsa which I can rotate nicely.

Can you see that happening though? I think he would need to score a penalty, could get lucky I suppose.

But Ipswich will be tearing into Liverpool 100 miles an hour first game PL etc.
Plus Liverpool have a lot of their players coming back late, seem up in the air, new manager new ideas. To me it is the type of match that could be an accumulator buster.
