I think I'm nearly set, aside from three spots....

    XXX
    TAA, Gvardiol, Mykolenko
    XXX, Son, Eze, Nkunku
    XXX, Isak, Wood

    4.0, Rogers, Robinson, Barco

    Question is, Haaland or Salah...

    A: Raya, Salah, Watkins
    B: Miguel, Gordon, Haaland

A looks stronger on paper, but Saka could be not 100% fresh, what do you prefer?

    A - Robbo + Son + Saka
    B - 4.5m def + Johnson + Haaland

Robbo may still be carrying an injury, Haaland may not be fit. Hopefully last preseason games will confirm them ok before start of season. Then A or B depending on that. But prefer A myself.

Nice win 3-1 for us (Palace) v Wolves in the early hours in the Stateside Cup. Played really well considering 9 of our first team not available (rested due to Euros/Copa America or playing in Olympics etc) our academy players (who won the Prem/International Cup last season) were impressive. Henderson only player to play the full 90mins as rest of team got 45mins each.

Who played on the left wing for Villa last season? Just looking at their squad for this season and can only see Rogers or Ramsay who would likely play there. Unless they plan on playing Maatsen there?

They often played a central midfielder on the left in an asymmetrical 442 - McGinn started there 15 times (per transfermarkt), Tielemans 3, maybe a couple of others. But they weren't exactly playing as a left winger, but rather tucking in to allow the LB to bomb forward. So e.g. in possession the 442 would look more like this:

      ---- RB RCB LCB ----
      RW CM CM LM LB

I was half-watching it. With Szobby in my draft, I was pleased to see Slot using his dual-#10s tactic (Elliot being the other one). For Arsenal Arteta started Havertz in the bad old #8 position, yet he scored a tap-in in the striker spot so I guess the starting formation was flexible. Overall, Liverpool looked to be a week fitter than the Arsenal players, but that is just unexamined observation.

Just watched the 1st half since I read the 2nd was more disjointed by mass subs (I usually do this with preseason friendlies anyway).

Quite an open game, maybe understandably with fairly makeshift defences still. Some very dicey moments for Liverpool playing out from the back, especially in the opening mins (twice Jesus almost scored from pressing Kelleher). But once it settled down Liverpool were utterly dominant.

Szoboszlai did play deeper in the double pivot alongside Jones although it was fairly fluid with Jones even making some runs in behind & popping up in the box. Elliott played a very classic 10 role, staying in the hole, not really running in behind, constantly looking tee up shooting opportunities for others. Beautiful dinked assist for Carvalho. Could easily have had 3 assists as he also created the big chance when Jota hit the post.

Jota did a good all-round job as the 9, sometimes dropping a bit deeper as for the first goal where he laid it off to Elliott while Salah made the run in behind. They used various runners but Salah, Jota & Carvalho mainly.

Salah took his goal well & constantly had the beating of Zinchenko but I think slight doubts still linger for me over whether he will be the clear standout FPL option. One other weak shot & no chances created (1st half at least). If Elliott is Slot's 10 he's going to be very, very popular and rightly so on this evidence

Nkunku seems to be getting the right mins through preseason to slowly reduce the injury concerns I have with him.

Just need to see how both Palmer and Nkunku fit in the Maresca setup.

    — 83 mins vs Club América
    — 90 mins vs Celtic
    — 45 mins vs Wrexham

Did you see the game? Interesting that Maresca is talking about having used him "in the pocket" - I guess he means as a very advanced 8/10:
"He can play in the pocket, in the nine, on the wing. In this moment we are using him in the pocket and he is doing very well"
Though I wonder whether that will be Palmer's role when he returns. Sounds like Sterling hasn't been impressing on the left so maybe Nkunku moves there...?

No, just clocked the mins he played. Yeah I seen those quotes, left side probably is the question mark for Maresca at the moment and could be Nkunku when Palmer is back

He did play a couple of injury-free seasons at Leipzig. It just remains to see how he will fit with Palmer back in, but they played a couple of games together towards the end of last season and it looked good, both got on points

Not sure how often we will see Arteta use Havertz as a left 8 this season. If Arsenal don't sign a new FWD then I think it will be Havertz and Jesus vying for that spot.

Arsenal are close to buying Merino. This will give Arteta the options below as 6/8s:

Rice, Ode, Partey, Vieira and Merino

He is still an option for both LW/RW. I do think Arteta will still consider him for the CF spot as well if Arsenal don't sign a new CF and sell Nketiah to Marseille

Amad Diallo at 5m worth keeping an eye on. Also the likes of Murphy at Newcastle at 5.5m for the start of the season. Throw in Rogers and Bobb and there's a few cheapies that could be worth a punt. Rak-Sakyi from Palace at 4.5m also linked with Southampton. He scored 15 goals with 8 assists for Charlton on loan a couple seasons ago. Refused to travel with Palace on their US tour reportedly.

Watched the full Liverpool game last night. Thoughts:

1/ Salah looked much sharper than the Betis game. Was on it from the start and looked dangerous for whole 70mins he was on.

2/ Harvey Elliott is an interesting option this season. Seems to have been Slots favoured number 10 so far and got 2 assists last night. Could be a very interesting option at a decent price IF he can get his spot in the team.

3/ Bradley & Tsmikas both showed glimpses of how attacking they can both be IF utilised by Slot. Still no sign of Trent or Robertson in training yet.

4/ Szoboszlai was sat slightly deeper last night. Still played very nicely but offered slightly less attacking threat. That could obviously change with the arrival of Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez et al.

5/ Jota was back to swashbuckling self last night. Could easily have bagged a brace last and hit the post with an effort. Remains to be seen who Slot will favour but he's definitely a very tempting differential for Liverpool attack.

Enzo Maresca tells me Cole Palmer will be Chelsea's penalty taker next season. "I decide the taker. And I told Tosin for the first penalty to tell Noni that Christopher Nkunku must take it. I understand Noni's desire to take penalties and that's why he took the second one. But I am the guy who decides. And when he returns with us, for sure Cole is the taker."

Is a defence of a 4.5m keeper and x3 starting 4.5m defenders and 2 x 4m subs asking for trouble?
It could give a midfield and attack of
    Salah, Odegaard, Nkuknu, Eze, gordon
    Haaland Isak
Is this the best 7 in a 352 or can anyone do better!?

    The cheap enabler draft.

    Sanchez 4.0
    TAA Gvardiol Burn Konsa Barco
    Salah Rogers Bobb Amad Nkunku
    Haaland Isak Havertz

If all those mids start it's actually kind of great. But there's no way it's gonna work.

Amad looks good to start GW1 against Fulham.Bobb's status less certain.
I'm not jumping on the Nkunku bandwagon.

    Here’s 3 drafts I’ve made…

    A) Salah draft. (Currently on)

    Miguel
    Trent / Andersen / VDV
    Salah / Palmer / Son / BrunoF / Hwang
    Isak / Muniz
    4.0 / Konsa / Barco / 4.5

    B) Haaland draft.

    Miguel
    Trent / Munoz / VDV
    Palmer / Son / BrunoF / Hwang / CHO
    Haaland / Muniz

    4.0 / Konsa / Barco / 4.5

    C) Haaland + Salah draft.

    Miguel
    Trent / Andersen / VDV
    Salah / BrunoF / Hwang / CHO
    Haaland / Isak / Muniz

    4.0 / Konsa / Winks / 4.5

Hwang is my favoured 6.5 and will be in my team unless injured. Not popular, but he’s always got a goal in him and he’s on pens.

It’s quite nice to have 3 options, but the trouble is, which one?

Preseason will hopefully make the decision for me…

Not sure a 4.5 striker is a good idea. I do like B though

        4.5 striker is basically fodder.

Going to be interesting to see if 2 weeks of preseason will be enough for those coming back late from holiday will start in GW1 especially with teams that have big squads.

    BB1 WC2 squad...
    Pope / Onana
White / Maguire / Van de Ven / Burn / Porro
    Salah(c) / Son / Jota / Szoboszlai / Amad
    Isak / Havertz / Wood

Triple Man Utd won't go down well here but for one game only home to a severely weakened Fulham (no Palhinha, Willian and Adarabioyo)...
Triple Liverpool, Newcastle & Spurs against the newly promoted teams.

Would 80points be a reasonable expectation for this team?

Banking on a clean sheet from Utd feels like real pie in the sky stuff. First game of the season. It's got Utd 0-1 Fulham written all over it.

Fulham will be fine, they've strengthened their squad since selling Palhinha and it won't be a walk in the park

The only signing they have made is ESR, they haven't signed any replacements for Palhinha or Adarabioyo, their two key defensive players. If Amad can get a goal and an assist against Newcastle then I'm confident he can do something against Fulham.

Feel like they always show up at Old Trafford. Beat us there in February and could have been 2-0 up early doors the year before if not for a terrible Mitrovic pen. Would have beat us in the FA Cup game if they weren't down to 9 men too.

We could easily be lining up with Sancho up top, Magalof at the back, and a pair of ghosts in the middle. I'd rather triple up on Southampton than us, as it stands.

I've got nothing against the Amad pick if you think he starts. Double defence would be my issue. Man Utd still haven't signed the DM they need, and are effectively back to square one on the CB situation with Yoro out. Fulham attack looks pretty strong to me. I think there'll be goals for both sides in this game

Slot on Jota playing number 9,
"I think it helps to have someone that naturally plays in that position.

"It helps if you have a striker who is smart, intelligent and knows when to make the deep runs and how to hold the ball."

What about a striker that misses consistently from inside the six yard box and giggles?

    A.
    Pickford
    Saliba Gvardiol Porro
    Salah Son Nkunku Garanacho
    Havertz Isak Watkins

    Bench Turner Harwood-Bellis Faes Winks

    Or

    B.
    Pickford
    Saliba Gvardiol Porro
    Salah Foden Nkunku Eze
    Havertz Isak Watkins

    Bench Turner Harwood-Bellis Faes Winks

So it's just Foden Eze vs Son Garnacho? I'd take the second pair

Would I be correct to say this is the long version of:
      A) Son/Garnacho
      B) Foden/Eze?
