FanTeam: Creating an All-Time XI with EPL Unlimited

Sponsored by FanTeam

We’re now in the final few days before the Premier League campaign kicks off, which means it’s not long until our initial EPL Unlimited squads are locked in.

As this season-long FanTeam competition comes without a team budget, managers can build a dream team of current stars. No debating whether to start with Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah or both.

While tinkering with drafts, we started thinking out loud: if we had the luxury of creating an all-time Fantasy XI, who would make the cut?

Ten minutes later, this was created.

FanTeam: Creating an All-Time XI with EPL Unlimited

Building this squad was a nostalgic thrill. It’s not every day you get to put together the perfect team, unrestricted by player pricing.

Of course, trying to squeeze in Leighton Baines as a makeshift centre-back raised a few eyebrows, but who could resist the temptation to pack in more set-piece potential? Although our front line practically picked itself, the midfield was a battlefield of legends.

FanTeam all-time XI breakdown

  • Forwards: The combination of Thierry Henry and Haaland is a Fantasy manager’s…. well, fantasy. With several historical scoring records shared between them, it’s hard to argue against their inclusion.
  • Midfield: Meanwhile, gathering Salah, Frank Lampard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Son Heung-min together represents the best in creativity and goal-scoring prowess from midfield.
  • Defence: It’s a 4-4-2 formation here. Baines, John Terry and current Liverpool duo Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were known not only for their defensive solidity but also for their attacking contributions. Essential qualities for the Fantasy world.
  • Goalkeeper: For both Chelsea and Arsenal, Petr Cech was a rock between the posts and racked up clean sheets year after year. He currently holds the record for Premier League shut-outs.

But enough about the past – let’s bring ourselves back to the present. FanTeam’s EPL Unlimited game gives you the chance to draft your ultimate XI for 2024/25, with the twist being that there will be no budget restrictions.

Managers also receive a weekly free transfer, alongside a captain’s armband and the option of Wildcard activation.

Whether you want to stack your team with current superstars or take a gamble on up-and-coming talent, the possibilities are endless.

Personally I wouldn't muck about with any of that and would try and find the extra £0.5m for Gvardiol tbh...

As little money as possible if 8th. Rogers if you really insist on having a strong bench but I'd just go Winks or Sangare.

What if I’ve got ESR as well… thinking of rotating Minteh or Rogers with him… any idea in that? Another option is to sell TAA and get for example Gordon.

This is my main conundrum. On Saka + Quansah atm.

Trent has the potential to be the best pick in the game. There’s only really him and Porro at above 4.5 that interest me.

But I’m concerned he doesn’t seem to be nailed on any more & at that price I don’t think you can afford benchings.

Liverpool fans - will Bradley get starts? Or am I overrating him based on a few good games as a stand-in last year?

I really wouldn't worry about Bradley. My concern with Trent is his relative lack of preseason and the new system under Slot. Although all indications are that he'll be just as good if not better under him.

I feel like going Quansah - Saka is a bit safer. You still have Liverpool coverage in defense and you get Arsenal's main man for a decent first 3 fixtures.

    A or B?

A, less risk , more minutes, lower ceiling, more pen takers, better longterm fixtures
B, more risk, minute risk , potential for way more points to start season, worse fixtures from week 3

    A) TAA, Quansah, Fernandes, Armstrong
    B) Gabriel , Hall, Gordon, Solanke

    Rest is set :

    Henderson
    Porro X X
    Eze Saka Jota X
    Haaland Isak X

Im back and forth all the time
My one issue with B is i feel like it makes me do early WC in week 3/4/5

Whereas A gives the same team as everyone who will WC in week 4 or 6 and i save WC.

Easy to map out moves in A:
Week 3: Salah + Watkins in for Jota + Haaland
Week 6: 2 extra Arsenal players in to join Saka
Week 7-8 : Foden / Haaland / City defender in

B i have no clue or path what to do from week 3

Hard to plan not to WC. It nearly always goes the way we didn't expect. And note that there could be big price differences on for instance Haaland and others when you plan to take them out/in.

Hall l like for weeks 1-2, on some set pieces also

I checked and Ipswich scored in every home game this year bar one (near end of season when promotion was almost wrapped up)

I expect them to score this weekend. I also expect Newcastle to win big and keep a cleansheet

    I think I am set:
    Hendo
    Trent/Gvardiol/Quansah
    Salah/Saka/Gordon/Smith-Rowe
    Solanke/Havertz/Isak

    Fabi/Nkunku/Barco/Harwood

Nkuku to rotate with Smith-Rowe and have two playing bench defenders covering Quansah if that goes bad quickly

    Thoughts welcome

Don't think there's any need to double up on Liverpool defence especially with someone far from nailed, even in good fixtures their defence wasn't exactly brilliant last season
