It is certainly good and may even win, but Haaland (c) is the clear favourite here.
So clear, I would even take him getting a 10-pointer if offered it before the match as a non-owner.

Don't kid yourself, Haaland is better captain choice for the next one. The gain from Salah was to be made from other fixtures and more funds.

    Sakak Salah Bruno Garnacho
    Solanke Isak Havertz

How many points, over the course of the season would Haaland have to score to make him worth 15m?

Better yet, how many more points than Salah, even Saka?

I would think Salah and Saka (if injury free) should be a lock for at least 220 points

if they all make 2800+ mins

      Haaland 280
      Salah 250
      Saka 220

From a value standpoint H + S dont look worth it but then the gain is x2 for the captaincy

but wouldn't look over the course of the season, for the time being Haaland is 7.7-8.0 points per start, Salah 7.3-7.5 and Saka 6.4-6.6. 1 extra mil is worth in the region of 25-30 points so around 0.7ppg

Haaland becomes really worth it when a 6mil or sub mid/attacker starts getting 4.5-ish ppg, then perma captain Haaland is tough to beat.

    4. nerd_is_the_werd
      • 5 Years
      4 months, 4 days ago

I think his value is always relative to other players.
Imo, if Salah scores say... 220 points, then Haaland would need 265 points to justify his value.

There's also the small details like the magnitude and frequency of hauls, so e.g. if he scored 5 goals v Wolves like last season, he justifies his value more due to x2 captaincy option.

    5. Sgt Frank Drebin

Total points over the course of the season don't matter since you have transfers and can swap between them. Only matters how much he scores when he's available.

Fortunately I have enough self-control to always hold off on the wildcard until Christmas. A wildcard is a very valuable treasure. I cannot understand those who want to wildcard now. Only one matchday has passed. This is not meaningful at all. They will probably not be happy with their team in two weeks at the latest and will want to wildcard again.

A sudden big jump, on FPL Statistics just before 11pm he was at 40% for the drop and alot of others too. This early in the season there are wild swings as the machine learning algorithms adjust. I wouldn't personally expect any falls or rises for at least a day or two...

Would you consider transferring out Quansah only to avoid a price drop even if he won't make my starting XI from GW2 onwards?

    1. adstomko
      • 8 Years
      4 months, 4 days ago

Yes. If he doesn’t get a CS/return vs Brentford, he’ll go down to 4.4 imo because he plays United next

      1. nerd_is_the_werd
        • 5 Years
        4 months, 4 days ago

The thing is he won't be in my starting XI so it's somewhat irrelevant how he performs.
The only reason to transfer out is to avoid a price drop, and considering if that's worth giving up a FT.

        1. adstomko
          • 8 Years
          4 months, 4 days ago

Depends on the probability of using a FT in GW2 to 3.
If you have a saved transfer for GW4, you can bring Quansah back then.

Not too sure since I cannot bring Haaland back into the team without a -8 currently.
It's looking more likely I'll just take the price drop which is a totally different approach to previous seasons.... stacking up the FT up to 5 seems to have changed things.

What if... the line is to TC Haaland this week and then sell him on WC and go without until WC2?

A combination like Salah + Havertz is gonna outscore Haaland + 5.5m mid. You also can pick up Saka and Foden and go super heavy on midfield. It's really only the IPS game that Haaland looks irresistible for and then you bin him on like a WC4.

    1. Mozumbus
      • 3 Years
      4 months, 4 days ago

I've Salah and Haaland both with ESR and CHO because I think it will outscore other combinations
I might be wrong at the end of the day

    2. nerd_is_the_werd
      • 5 Years
      4 months, 4 days ago

The points tally last season showed lots of strong midfield options (Salah, Son, Saka, Palmer) and it seems like having 3 of these outweighs Haaland + 1 of them.

The main question is the timing of when Haaland enters your team... since not captaining him (let alone owning) on a single fixture can be very costly. IPS (h) might just be it...

Do you really to waste a bench spot with a Chelsea player though?

Now that FPL has confirmed the bonus points and scores, made the autosubs and updated the overall positions, here is the official Rough with the Smooth hot topic for Gameweek 1.

          How did your Gameweek go?

You can share your tales of joy and woe here.

And do you think it is right to wait for FPL to make its autosubs and update the overall positions before issuing this Hot Topic, or would you prefer it to come out shortly after the bonus points and scores have been confirmed, which might be a few hours earlier?

            Pretty average week with 67

Think it’s a good thing they wait, because it means they can add points if a goal gets changed? Like the March goal 2 seasons ago

FPL confirms the points approximately an hour after the final match of the Gameweek.

If OPTA changes a goal attribution before this (whether for a goal in the final match or in an earlier match from the same Gameweek) then FPL will adjust the points accordingly before it announces that they have been confirmed.
And similarly for actions that contribute towards the bonus calculations.
But if OPTA changes something after the Gameweek's points have been confirmed then it's too late - the points will not change again once FPL has confirmed them.

There can be a delay of a few hours though between the points being confirmed and the autosubs being made and the overall positions updated.
There may also be small differences between the overall positions calculated by LIVEFPL and by FPL. For example, my own overall rank is 2,164,819 on LIVEFPL but 2,163,219 on FPL itself.

Personally would prefer it at the full time whistle of the final game, approximately. Then people can come here knowing there’s a place, from that time, for them to gloat and winge and read how others did. Goodnight TM

I'm happy with my 70 and 1.3m rank but it's pretty scary that my whole week hinged on Salah captain.

He blanks (like it looked like he would after the first half) and I have an awful GW.

Very happy 72... After coming 2.5k 2019/20 I've had 4 nightmarish years... So it's nice to get out of the blocks.

Did last minute Kulu>Garnacho... Which I thought was gunna bite me... But seems to have got lucky.

70 and 1.3 mil rank. Better start that the last few seasons. Like the look of GW2 for me.
Rough not sticking to Salah and Haaland - would have been a sweet team and score. But its not a long term feasible option anyway.
Other roughs were Murphy and Solanke
            Smooth - most others delivered.

75pts, but 14 of those pts were from BB, Murphy was my main reason to BB but seeing him subbed after 30mins because of another players idiocy wasn't in the script, at least Dunk and Burn got me a cs to make it a better BB than last year 🙂

I got 83. To me, it was all rather meh, despite LiveFPL putting me in the Top 2%. Problem is, I completely wasted my bench boost, with all 4 benchies scoring 2 points each.

It was really the Arsenal double-act of Saka/Havertz who are responsible for my decent start.

The key 'rough' was Quansah, and probably Nkunku with Chelsea making further signings.

97 points, Bench Boost. So happy with that. Especially as I didn’t have Salah, Saka or Haaland..

            Smooth - Every GK/Defender returned

Rough - Feels like it could have been a lot more, with Bruno + Diaz very unlucky to blank + Murphy hooked early

Played BB and got 96 points but ended up with a rather bitter taste in my mouth after my 'punt' picks all failed.
I was debating Quansah, Rashford + Jesus against the 'safer' picks of Martinez, Saka + Wissa... this cost me 26 points! :O

Happy enough with my 65. Last year got 32 and had to chase the game after that, 65 at least puts me in a reasonable position to build on.
The good: Defenders all did pretty well, accumulating 19 points. Saka and Salah off to a good start contributing 26 points.
The blah: Son and Kamada blanked, forwards did nothing.
Hopefully Mateta and Solanke can get rolling this weekend.

Pleased with my 82 (225k, no BB) from a RMT-inspired draft without Haaland, but thinking of it as a buffer to protect against missing out on Haaland next GW.
Rough was going against RMT for Isak(C) not Salah. But I had good reasons (didn't think RMT was allowing enough for Isak being at home and Salah away). I'd do it again.

Smooth; Reasonable start on 67. Isak(c), was on Salah first draft but I thought Ipswich might have given a bit of a fight being an early kick off at home and Toon seemed to have the easiest game. Went Saka over Palmer too. Haaland goal, Gvardiol and Martinez shut-outs all good. Took Guehi out for Robinson late doors as the transfer hadn't gone through and started Barco. Nearly brought Hall in but went Robinson for GW2 who subbed in for Barco so at least it was 2 points more than Guehi got.

Rough; Captained the wrong one of my big four! But at least I owned them all. Went without Toon or Arsenal defence, but if I would have swapped Martinez for Hall I'd have gained nothing and maybe have a transfer waiting to happen now. Also Gabriel had to go to fund Haaland but Martinez got the clean sheet in his place so kind of got away with it.

Rough: Got Andersen zero for Barco, Isak captain like most and no Salah
Smooth: Saka Jota TAA and Haaland.

Average score of 57 so could be worse

            Big rough/smooth in defence

On one hand I’ve got Barco, Quansah + Johnson. Need to make a transfer on that in gw1 so not great!

Other hand my two big boys returned - TAA and Porro.

Rough: No returns from my midfield of Son, Gordon, Gibbs-White, Rogers. Actually started Barco so disappointing to miss out on the clean sheet.

            Smooth: I have Håland (C) for GW2.

I knew what I was getting into going without Salah/Saka. No problem with Gordon, Rogers looks good for the price and I'll play Smith Rowe in GW2.

I haven't loved Son on the left under Postecoglou but thought it was worth targeting the first two fixtures. He'll get at least one more game but easy to move to Saka/Palmer/Foden. Gibbs-White not the sort of player I usually go for, reminds me of Maddison for Leicester in that he sometimes dominates games but can also drop a bit too deep. Not panicking yet.

Smooth: Havertz, Saka and Salah gave me my highest ever rank.

Rough: Kulu, Nkunku flopped, along with Barco's surprise benching. Might have been on for a single digit rank!

Pretty OK start with 74 points, Salah team but followed the masses with captain Isak.
            Porro did me proud.
            Worse player was Bailey.
I went light upfront with both 6.0 strikers that rotate well.
Wood scored and Muniz looks good for the future.
Kicked myself for not having wissa who last year I had in my team and made a massive rank difference.

No barco or quansa to worry about. I have Harwood and Johnson perms benched

Hoping Palmer smashes it next week.

Happy with my team going forward but come Gw2 I will be hiding behind the sofa watching haaland

Tinkering with a no Haaland build and my goodness, team looks so good without Haaland in taking up 15.0

Put Solanke in that spot for a front 3 of Havertz - Solanke - Isak. If Solanke could just close to mirror Haaland output the rest of the team would outscore the Haaland build imo.

"If Solanke could just mirror". Of course youd be better off if he did. £7.5m goes a long way to upgrading elsewhere. He cant and wont mirror him but you have got me thinking if the sum of the alternative parts could outweigh the current whole.

People with Quansah should just calm down, no need for panic moves. He may as well play vs Brentford, he was subbed off because he lost too many aerial duels and Brentford front 3 isn't the tallest in the league. Even if he doesn't start you have decent bench, right?

I mean, you if you had Quansah in your team, I guess you had some back up in case he eventually loses his place, right?

Totally depends on your team’s structure.
            I’ve got 4 x 4.5m, and a 4m who all start for their teams.
Had to transfer him out, otherwise I’d have to play an Ipswich defender vs City

Always do better when I go old school and get the pen and paper out and do my own table of fixtures and targets. It just works better than looking at a screen with all the data in the world.
