Eliteserien Fantasy 2024 guide: Odds, fixtures, chips + more

Welcome to Eliteserien Fantasy 2024! It’s brilliant to see so many newcomers to the game, so I thought I’d try to put together a beginner’s guide of sorts to help get you oriented. Just bear in mind that I am very much included in the ‘beginner’ bracket myself…

I won’t spend much time covering the game format here as it should be immediately familiar to FPL players, with just a few twists on the chips:

  • ‘Attack! Attack!’ – double points for all your forwards
  • ‘Rich Uncle’ – a free hit chip with unlimited budget for that Gameweek
  • The self-explanatory ‘Two Captains’

The main aim of this article is to provide a basic orientation with Eliteserien’s top (and bottom) clubs and an overview of the initial schedule, which features early blanks and doubles.

BOOKIES’ ODDS TO WIN TITLE

So, first up, let’s have a look at the odds of winning the title this season, to give a rough idea of the expected hierarchy:

  1. Bodø/Glimt 2.15
  2. Molde 4.00
  3. Brann 4.50
  4. Viking 15
  5. Rosenborg 21
  6. Lillestrøm 25
  7. Sarpsborg 30
  8. Tromsø 100
  9. Odd 150
  10. Strømsgodset 150
  11. Haugesund 300
  12. HamKam 300
  13. Fredrikstad 300
  14. Sandefjord 300
  15. Kristiansund 500
  16. KFUM Oslo 750

Bodø/Glimt and Molde, fresh off their European adventures during the offseason for Norway, occupy the top two spots. A Bodø/Glimt victory would secure their fourth title in the last five seasons, while Molde won in 2022 & 2019.

Brann have had a much more turbulent recent history: third in 2018, relegated to the First Division in 2021, promoted in 2022 and second on their return to the Eliteserien last year.

Of the three promoted sides, minnows KFUM Oslo are making their first-ever appearance in the Eliteserien and this is clearly reflected by the bookies’ odds. Kristiansund return after just one season in the First Division, while Fredrikstad are fancied to be a slight cut above at joint 11th.

FIXTURE DIFFICULTY

Next, let’s have a look at a fixture ticker for the first eight Gameweeks (source: https://www.viewfantasystats.com/eliteserien/fdr-planner/)

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The predicted top three – Bodø, Molde and Brann – also sit atop the fixture ticker for the opening eight Gameweeks.

A Double Gameweek 3 for Brann and Molde, aligned with appealing fixtures before and after, makes these two clubs an excellent place to begin your draft. If your initial strategy is to attack the Double Gameweek, you might also want to consider supplementing Brann & Molde double/triple-ups with the mid-priced options from Odd and HamKam.

EARLY CHIP?

The early Double Gameweek also presents an opportunity to deploy one of your chips. Since Molde and Brann players are quite expensive, Rich Uncle could be an option to enable a frontline that includes last season’s top scorer Bård Finne (BRA, 11.5m) and Molde talisman Fredrik Gulbrandsen (11m).

Alternatively, ‘Rich Uncle’ could be held for Double Gameweek 10, which includes Bodø, Brann, Rosenborg and Tromsø.

‘Attack! Attack!’ is another option for Double Gameweek 3, as the current template frontline appears to be Finne, Gulbrandsen and Kirkevold (HAM, 6m). Odd forward Børven (7.5m) looks a promising alternative to Kirkevold if you want to triple up on doublers. Viking’s Salvesen (8.5m) has been banging in preseason, although tough fixtures Bodø and Brann in GWs 2 & 3 may be slightly off-putting.

ATTACK V DEFENCE

As always, when using a fixture ticker with just one colour per game, it’s worth considering where defensive difficulty and attacking difficulty are flattened.

To help identify the teams which might be, for example, a good fixture for your attackers but a bad fixture for your defenders, I’ve also put together a colour-coded chart of goals and goals conceded last season:

Eliteserien Fantasy 2024

The left-hand column presents the team in order of goals conceded to highlight fixture difficulty for attackers, while the right-hand column orders teams by goals scored as a metric for defensive fixture difficulty.

It’s worth noting that Viking and Sarpsborg 08 look like quite appealing fixtures for your attackers but much less so for your defenders. At the opposite extreme, Haugesund and Strømsgodset appear to be pretty solid defences but struggle in attack.

WHERE TO FIND STATS

As for the players, I’m far from the level of familiarity required to write a comprehensive watchlist. However, the official Fantasy site does allow you to sort by goals, assists, clean sheets, bonus points etc, which can be supplemented by further data from sites like Transfermarkt and Whoscored.

I’ve also come across a massively helpful pre-season minutes tracker here (it also notes goals and assists).

COMMUNITY MINI-LEAGUES

That’s pretty much it from me.

I’ll just conclude with a couple of mini-leagues to join (thanks to Mullered in Maenam and Mince N Tatties for running these):

See you below the line!

WC20 still proving a bit of headache. I think the list of players I want who are unavailable this week is growing too long - Nuñez, Aleesami, Evjen, Horn Myhre, maybe Finne. Could be a bit of a rough week with no Molde & no Glimt mids but I might just hold out. Alternatively, my WC21 draft is starting to look a lot like my Rich Uncle 22 team so I might even just blow the RU this week.

Caught up on the Fredrikstad v Brann game and it was a lot tighter than the scoreline suggests so not really worried about FFK defence, but Myhre was brilliant and Finne does seem to be finding form (although the benching last night & long trip to Kazakhstan next week is a bit of a concern)

So many doubts on possible WC, will Zinc be another Haug, Eikrem likely to be rotated with new forward...

I'm sure Moe will start Eikrem as much as physically possible (and he's the perfect pairing for Ihler I think), but the schedule is quite intense and can't rest anyone in the 2nd leg v Elfsborg midweek at 0-1. Think I'm going to leave him out on Rich Uncle this week then WC him in 21. RU also handy to take a couple Glimt punts without committing since I'm not entirely sure on anyone bar Evjen right now

Just have wc and 2C left myself...

Might wait a week for more info, though not sure if there's much more to get. If Zinc starts might just hut button, can easily downgrade...

Could get Ihler instead of Eikrem, not many great mid field options anyway, and TLO, Saeter not doing much

FWIW there are suggestions on the Rosenborg (fans) forum that there's a good chance Sæter is back on Sunday. I'm not keen on hanging on for him anymore myself but if you're delaying WC and don't want to take a hit, maaaybe you get 30mins

    Rich Uncle on.

    Fischer
    Løvik Stenevik Norheim
Tripic Svendsen (K) Nypan Eriksen Saltnes
    Helmersen Nordås

Hoping this is a rare week where the Molde WBs are nailed (with Linnes/Haugen flagged), and my Glimt picks last more than 45mins. But mainly just hoping this adds value to my WC next week

Looks good , done well so far.
I forgot it was a early kick off today and was still tinkering with my WC and ended up with Zinc as my captain oops.....
Luckily enough off the bench 2 assists eases the mistake 🙂

It's going to be tough to catch India's number 1. He appears to have WC, Rich Uncle and Spissrush all still available.

Another Skjeldal masterclass today is inevitable of course.

Oh it's KK he has still.

Thinking of Spissrushing 22 but there must be a chance that'll be outranked by a normal mid K

Hmm this is bad news. Eriksen Eikrem KK22 feels more of a threat than spissrush at the moment. But I would probably still go for it in 22 with Nuñez, Finne + Nordås/Lien in your spot

He's back and with Løvik suspended it's virtually guaranteed to be Stenevik LWB / Linnes RWB v FFK. I'd guess he gets rotated / plays short of 60mins in the Wednesday game as they've been quite careful with him usually and will have 3 WB options again (plus KBK is a pretty restable fixture)

Just the 6 flags for me after WC last GW 😳
Eriksen, Løvik, Norheim (plus a bench fodder) red; Dyngeland & Eikrem orange. But I think I can scrape by... this probably cements substantial rotation for Molde & I still have a nice 11 if Dyngeland & Eikrem play

Was just trying to figure that out actually (see below). I think Brynhildsen is more of an Eikrem type...?

Eriksen less of an option this week by virtue of suspension, but will probably stay for me even if playing in midfield

Hmm looking at bringing in Bryn/Eikrem and likely 2K, but need to sell Eriksen as also have Lovik,

Last game Ihler/Brynd started up top with Eriksen in midfield

Something about Eriksen in quarantine also...

Got so lucky with the blanks from GW15-20, in the end I went from 2.5k to just inside the top 500 despite a totally sideways Rich Uncle. Managed to field a full XI every week, was expecting to only have 5 players in GW20.

Using my final chip this week. Attack Attack with Nuñez and Ihler, waiting for the Glimt lineup to see if I fancy their striker or Lien for the third spot.

Brynhildsen seems to be gaining traction among the Norwegian lot (diskutopia), with less so for Ihler lately. You see much of him previously? My guess was Brynhildsen would play the Eikrem role, and Ihler more the Eriksen role (or rather, more of a poacher - no one is quite like Eriksen)

It's more that I've already got Ihler and I'm maxed out on Molde with Eriksen and Løvik. Not going near the Brann strikers. Never heard of Ihler a couple of months ago but the goal against LSK was from an Eriksen=esque position. Think he's good for at least one start which is enough for me.

My instinct was actually that Brynhildsen (K) could tank with Eikrem fit, and that Ihler is the better option this week anyway. But I'm just guessing...

Locked and loaded for the week... how does this look?

    Henderson
    TAA Gabriel Dunk
    Salah Jota ESR Rogers
    Haaland (C) Isak Wood

    Valdimarsson Winks THB Barco

Fingers crossed can save a transfer next week too

Hauge Høgh Määtä front 3 for Glimt. Fet starting over Saltnes

Høgh feels like a high risk, high reward pick on Attack Attack (saw some chip teams on Twitter and I don't think he was in any, he could outscore a lot of the doublers) but I'm going sensible with Lien with two doubles coming up and frees up some budget.

Feeckk...what a mess...-8 to bring in Eikrem/Bryn with planned 2K , then switched half of 2K to Tripic last minute due to doubts over Brynd mins..

    Last weeks WC a disaster...

Damn, missed the deadline ... the issue of being in Asia and games played at source on a Friday and listed on a Saturday.

3 non starters in Løvik, Eriksen and Gundersen all set up by a previous Wild Card.

Attacking returns for 10 Molde players 😯

Maybe playing 2x #10s is the way to go, making space for the entire defence to get in on the action!

Looking forward to Runde 24, do you think either Double Kaptain on Eikrem + Høgh, or even Attack! Attack! On Høgh, Brynhildsen + one other, would be a good idea?

Although I was targeting Tromsø defence earlier in the season, I think they've really sorted themselves out since & I would rate them as one of the most solid in the league now, so my expectations from Molde attack next week are fairly modest. Glimt should smash KBK, but they do have a tough UEL fixture against Porto tomorrow so keep an eye on Høgh's mins there.

Would probably lean Attack! Attack! over 2 captains if you want to play one, with the DGWs for Lien & Sigurdarson offering some nice budget options for 3rd forward. Molde v Sandefjord in 25 could be a good opportunity for 2 captains (Eikrem/Brynhildsen/Eriksen; or Tripic v Odd)

Thank you for your reply. I decided against playing a chip this Runde.

I ended up bringing in Høgh and (K) him. VC'd Eikrem and have Patrick Metcalfe CS coming in off the bench so it was a +21 point swing in my favour once I saw Høgh didn't get any minutes!
