The Watchlist – Santi Cazorla

Since arriving at Arsenal from Malaga during the summer, Santi Cazorla has added his name to a raft of attacking midfielders Fantasy managers have been keeping a close eye on. As with the likes of the Premier League’s other new attacking recruits such as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa, though, there was always an element of doubt before the season got under way; could these prestigious talents sparkle in the English top-flight and, as the old saying goes, were they able to cut it on a rainy Tuesday night match at Stoke?

Certainly from his opening two games, Cazorla’s talent was no longer in question as his slick passing and eye for goal from distance left Arsenal fans delighted and Fantasy managers licking their lips in anticipation of a flurry of points. From a Fantasy perspective doubts still remained, though, as his magnificent attacking play failed to unlock the Sunderland and Stoke defences as the Gunners registered back-to-back goalless draws.

In the Gameweek 3 trip to Liverpool, the flood gates opened and at last his potential as a key Fantasy asset was realised when the playmaker produced a goal, assist and two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points to amass a Gameweek total of 13 points. A further assist for Cazorla followed in the Gameweek 4 demolition of Southampton, with yet another assist, plus two FPL bonus points, in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at the Etihad. By now the writing was well and truly on the wall for Cazorla, who has arrived in a burst of Spanish flair as a proven force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.

For the savvy Fantasy managers, who have been watching Cazorla’s underlying attacking statistics closely during the first part of the season, Gameweek 7 has long been pencilled in as Santi day, when Arsenal’s tough opening fixtures come to an end. After this weekend’s home clash with Chelsea, the prospects look full of promise for strong attacking returns for the Gunners throughout the rest of October (whm, nor, QPR).

There is even strong argument for drafting him in ahead of this run to catch Cazorla before his price rises even further. Initially costing 9.0 in FPL, he has already climbed by 0.3, with over 28,000 Fantasy managers snapping him up this week. There is every chance Cazorla, who is Arsenal’s top points scorer in the FPL game with 30 points, will also be able to unlock a resolute Chelsea defence.

In the Sky Sports game, where he is priced at 6.7m, he is also set to be a key asset having already amassed 43 points, the second highest among the game’s midfielders. In the Sky game Cazorla is arguably even more desirable as bonus points are awarded for successful passes, just one of a number of attributes the bedazzling little Spaniard possesses.

My gut instinct was to do Kagawa > Cazorla last night to avoid the price rise. I didn't do it.

Probably worth holding onto Kagawa for this week now? I've got a bad feeling that Cazorla is gonna be the man behind a good Arsenal win...

I am seriously thinking of getting rid of RVP and Tevez and getting in Berba and Aguero... And along with that upgrading Michu to Cazorla... But, once you sell RVP it will be very difficult to get him back again at his price, unless he drops a lot due to some long term injury...

All these transfers would require me to WC as I have already taken a hit to get in Baines and Felliani...

My team at the moment is:

      Jussi (Federici)
      Baines Rangel Demel (Clyne Hangeland)
      Michu Hazard Felliani Yaya (Kaca)
      Tevez Ba RVP

Is it worth it to WC?

You could always get RVP back in with the January WC and just be prepared to go without him until then.

If you're going to want RVP back before January then there is no point in getting rid right now IMO as it would be a faff releasing the funds to afford him back.

Wouldn't move Zab until rotation starts to bite, unless you are doing it to find the Pienaar purchase, in which case that makes sense. I took a hit this week to get in Baines, so that would probably be my choice, but think hard about whether it should be Tevez to fund it. I don't know how much you bought him for, but sad to lose a 0.5 investment in him just to fund the Baines purchase.

Nope, you're just flat wrong. The standard of proof AND the nature/definition of the wrong are different in criminal, civil, and non-formal settings. Workplace dismissal decisions do not even need to satisfy the balance of probablities--just a reasonableness test. Guilt in a criminal proceeding is a MUCH higher standard than just establishing whether he did it or not. That is why OJ Simpson escaped a murder conviction but still had to pay fr wrongful death in a civil action.

It's OK to disagree with the ruling, but don't talk rubbish about the preclusive effect of a not-guilty verdict.

That kind of talk makes a lawyer's skin crawl. "Not guilty" in a criminal court is among the most meaningless, and least understood, rulings in the law. And furthermore . . . .

                  Woahhh.

So you're saying after a court finds someone innocent of a crime. The workplace can sack him for exactly the same offence.

A lawyer of over 35 years told me the exact opposite.

Well, the problem is that the offences are not "the same". First, no civil offence has the same nature as a criminal offense, and then each civil or criminal offence is described in its own terms. That doesn't even begin to go into workplace offences, which are usually just elaborations on the concept of misconduct or gross misconduct. I could go on about this all day, but the point is they are different offences, and JT was found "not guilty" of a specific offense theoretically punishable by the deprivation of either liberty or property. Within the FA, he is involved in civil relationships in which he agreed to subject himself to a separate regime from the criminal courts, and in which separately defined offences, with separate burdens of proof, could be punished by fines. No relationship, then, between the two rulings.

i understand it a bit better now so thanks. I still don`t know how comfortable I am with the FA trying someone for basically the same thing as they have been found innocent of in the law courts but that`s just me.

And a civil action is still through the courts so completely different. This wasn`t a civil action it was the FA trying a man who was found not guilty in court.

If you're ok with that then fine. My opinion is that after you're found inncoent in court you are in effect innocent and that normally is and should be the end of the matter.

Last response: "not guilty" just means that the elements of a specific criminal offence were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. It does NOT mean that he has been proved innocent. The opposite of guilty is not innocent, it is merely not guilty. He can be proved liable, or cupable, for a lesser civil or even (in this case) contractual wrong as long as the evidence satisfies the contractual standard of proof and the dfinition of the offence. There is no finding of "innocence" out there that can protect JT; only the finding that a very different standard of proof and definition of offence was not established in the cirminal court.

Now I will go back to being an FFSer. 😉

I completely understand they are not the same. The FA is also not a court. He was found not guilty so whether you and I or the FA think he is guilty shouldn`t matter.

In the eyes of the law he is innocent, the FA should have accepted that.

It's not "effectively being re-tried" - it's a professional dispute, rather than a criminal prosecution, two very different things.

If I called my boss a fat b*stard and spat in his coffee then I probably wouldn't face criminal sanctions, however I'd expect it to have fairly major repercussions at work.

If you call your boss a name and spat in his coffee and they did take you to court and you were subsequently found not guilty it would be illegal for them to fire you for that because legaly they would be firing an innocent man.

              It is effectively being re-tried.

As i understood it if youre work or trade organisation took you to a tribunal they could find you guilty and punish you, fire you, whatever.

                    BUT

If you went to trial in a criminal court and were found not guilty then your employer, trade organisation could not then find you guilty of the same offence.

                    Is this incorrect?

                (a) that would be fairly unlikely to get to court
                (b) you don't have to have broken the law to be fired, or to face professional sanctions. To use an equally silly example, it's not against the law to spend my working day on this forum, but it's probably frowned upon by my employer.
