The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Five – Kolarluv

Aleks Kolarov is a legend around these parts. Two seasons ago I backed the Serbian to shine, only to be left eggy faced as he City man huffed and puffed without impact. Now he’s back and this time it’s personal.

Having crashed the party with a 20-point haul in his last Etihad encounter, Kolarov is being lined up for a start this weekend and even Granville’s taking notice. Having ridiculed my affections for the player and gloried in his failings, the Mancunian has got himself a crush and he’s struggling to fight it off.

This week’s ScoutCast features a lot of Kolarlove, along with the supporting cast of regulars as Granville steals a mini-league march and starts to sound cocky.

Listen in on the Serbian swooning via this link, or stream the episode via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          Walked into that one... 😉

I just think there's a better chance of a Swansea goal than a West Ham clean sheet, and if Swansea score, Michu will probably be involved.

Yay or nay on this 4 point hit:

    Saylor to Wilson
    Michu to Maloney
    Lambert to Ba

if nay I'll probably just do Saylor to Wilson and hold on to my two transfers.

In all honesty, Liverpool's fixtures/defense aren't good enough for me to gamble on buying him when there's got to at least be a chance that Enrique wins his place back at some point.

Toying with the idea of Oscar as ultimate value. Stats show him as a match for Mata and Hazard - same number of goal attempts as Hazard (12) according to the table Mark cited. 12 is a LOT of goal attempts for a mid, let alone one at his price. A regular in a potentially title winning team.

He won't even need to exactly match Mata and hazard being significantly cheaper.

He's already exploded against juventus in the CL. Just waiting for the explosion in FPL.

See the previous page.. I might just be able resist Kolarov and ship him in and have Huth, Oscar and Ba.. Though he might get rotated once Marin is back and Moses starts finding a place in the first 11..

Good point about rotation risk. Oddly enough the big games coming up might help him start because he is a big player?

In general the return of Marin and possible rise of Moses are negative factors against Chelsea coverage. Will they affect only the wide midfielders? Oscar apparently is now the central one so ironically may be the safest. That said Chelsea roles change every bloody week!!!

Thing is, Mata and Hazard can pretty much play on the wings as well as behind the striker, while Oscar is limited to the latter. I wouldn't be surprised if Mata plays behind Torres and Marin/Moses and Hazard play on the wings. Though, I don't want Oscar to be dropped, he's probably the only player who likes to shoot in that team, apart from Luiz of course. 😛

The pros for Mata for me and the thing that's making me think he's worth it is he's on set pieces/corners and he is of the three the most experienced and naturally creative. Hazard has had some seriously lucky assists so far...I mean taking the p*ss assists if you include winning penalties 😀

Anyway, Mata is certainly showing himself to be the best value right now. Oscar may be even better value over the few months...It would be nice if he is as it would be an incredibly cheap way into their attack.

I think the fact that he's the one with the most defensive responsibilities puts me off a bit. Seems ironic for a Brazilian but I think his potential might be stunted by the obligation of subservience he has to the other two. Mata and Hazard are the superstars...he is the understudy...but I agree he may well provide value for money if you decide to not go for the big 2 Chelsea mids.

From watching some Chelsea games I noticed he is doing his defensive duties well and it seems appropriate as RDM would want Hazard and Mata dictating the attacking play as much as possible. I've heard on a few occasions commentators praise Oscar's ability to perform these duties...so it's mainly based on that.

Having skimmed through comparisons between Oscar, Hazard & Mata a few things jump out. It's only really worth comparing from GW5 onwards when they all play together. Oscar is generally the most central. But Hazard and Mata are not incredibly wide, they want interplay so can't get too far apart. Oscar is slightly withdrawn in GWs 5 & 7 and very withdrawn in GWs 6 & 8. He also loses the stats comparisons to Mata massively and Hazard on a clear majority.

One to watch in a team like that, but a bit borderline even if he is cheaper.

(In GWs 6 & 8 Oscar's average position is on the halfway line while Mata and Hazard's is about normal, around 20 yards more advanced. Quite surprising but it's all about how RDM chooses to use him in particular games. Would be interesting to see if they played teams with strong CAMs in those GWs that Oscar was assigned to neutralize.)

Finally, looking at Oscar's shots relative to Mata's, Oscar does have 12 goal attempts but they come from considerably further out, mostly outside the box. Many of Mata's are in the box.

All in all, Oscar has a tendency to play deeper and more central. I will not commit the cliche of calling him a Modric... 😆

demel shipped out by 1,263 today according to totalfpl. i think his price won't drop until next week so anyone that got him for 4.0 will probably want out for the .1 profit early next week. west ham's fixtures are terrible after wigan this weekend so i think all west ham players need to go, i've got demel and jussi to deal with and only one free transfer next week that i would rather use on getting gibbs out.

Just some info for future reference, in a very recent QPR report, it is rumored that Fabio may be ready to make a return. What this does indicate is that even if he doesn't, he should be involved in the following game. Probably not on peoples radars, however should they improve defensively, for an attacking full back, he is now very cheap. Won't post link as its a long article.

Not sure what to do for this week, was targeting Hazard and Fletcher out for a -4 to set up Michu--->Mata for GW10. I would then have enough for Wilson in GW11.

Given my defensive problems with Demel out is it worth bringing forward the Wilson transfer to this week or just play Nelsen given Arsenal have not scored in last 2 games..

Irrespective of when Wilson comes in, I am doing Hazard--->Bale this week so the Wilson move is for a hit over long term

so Hazard and which defender would you remove for Bale and Wilson for -4

Would it be worth throwing in Fletcher--->Holt for another -4? Otherwise I need a -4 next week to get Mata in for Michu as I will be 0.7 short.

I would have no Chelsea coverage for home to United and then bring in Mata for Swansea trip. I have 3 options..

I am now leaning to just playing Nelsen this week at Emirates and taking -4 for Bale and Holt in. Then Mata in for free for GW10. Wilson in for GW11 OR

a whopping -8 for Wilson, Bale and Holt this week. Mata in for free GW10. Guthrie out in GW11

OR -4 for Bale and Wilson in this week. Then a -4 Mata in GW10

hey guys, just looking for a general look at my team, got 9 out of 11 players at home this gameweek, pleased with that. Anyway, team is:

    Begovic

    Baines, Wilson, Ivanovic

    Mikel, Cazorla, Hazard, Sterling

    Ba (c), RVP, Jelavic

    Subs; Foster: Gorkss, Pienaar, Demel

Radically took points hits to form this team after epically failing on my wildcard, so leaving as it is for a while.

    Comments appreciated.

hey man, yeah i know i thought that, but just thought well he plays every game and ya never know he may chip in with assist/bonus now and then, his place originally is for the bench but we all know what happened to pienaar lol.

well, with hazard, i got rid, he scored points, bale, he scored points when i got rid, so now hazard is in my team for a while now and regardles of what bale does, he's burned me, and he's never coming bk in my team lol.

mata to upgrade mikel is wise though.

Tevez for this GW; hard to know for the future given City rotation, but I reckon Aguero will play all the remaining CL group matches, so Tevez should be in for the next several PL fixtures.

I'm thinking the third striker spot is the one that most are still unsure about at the moment. If most have a Manchester striker or two and Ba at the moment...who is the best one to go alongside them? It's still so up in air...Fletcher/Berb/Lambert/Holt?/Long?/Defoe?/Crouch?

Will there ever really be a definitve answer? Maybe not...maybe it's the one you keep using a transfer on for good fixtures?

Nearly in a position where I can rotate a cheaper striker playing at home, other issues slowing me down, for eg defiantly getting Kone in for attractive home games.

I don't think the pattern is that clear. So many are going only for one Manchester striker and two "third strikers"--because so many of those strikers are good. If you do this you can afford some pairing of Ba/Jelly/Berb/Giroud/Pod/etc. That is where I am.

Yeah this kind of combo could be great. Tbh if Jelavic was say 7.5 he'd be in my team right away. It's that extra 1m that's killing me. But like you say...going with this strategy allows you to have the likes of Jelavic...instead of having say RVP/Tevez and have no funds to get someone at that price without compromising elsewhere.

i think there are good cheap options and its a decent strategy to flip that last striker spot for the on form/good fixture players, but then that has the potential of using up your free transfer every week. i started the season with that idea putting graham in that spot then switching to berbs for 2 weeks until his hip injury then switching to fletcher. now i've dumped fletcher for ba this week so i've got rvp, tevez, ba up front. very top heavy team but i am expecting loads of points from those 3 this weekend.
