The Chelsea and Aston Villa double Gameweek 1 proved to be this week’s biggest news as the community was deafened with the sound of ripped-up draft teams. We take a look back at the subsequent discussions and the other hot topics to catch our eye in the past seven days, and keep up to date with the latest from the community leagues taking place this summer.
Hottest Topics
Chelsea looks to the main source of investment for community members during this early double Gameweek, with few keen on Aston Villa’s assets. Lateriser21 was on hand to come up with a solution for those looking to acquire a trio of Blues options, the game’s two most expensive players Gareth Bale and Robin Van Persie, and avoid an early wildcard. However, this task will become much easier should Bale’s rumoured move to Real Madrid become reality.
Among those urging caution before investing in Villa’s assets was Triggerlips. He warns that for every double Gameweek player we invest in, the likelihood of points hits grows as both Chelsea and Villa are set to miss Gameweek 3.
Thinking of picking up a West Brom player? Maybe you will reconsider after reading Dino’s critical assessment of their chances. It proves grim reading for Baggies fans and those considering Nicolas Anelka as a cut-price striker option.
Second season syndrome was the inspiration behind this detailed post from Demi, who has analysed those players who may be primed for a far better second season in the Premier League. A certain Aston Villa striker is amongst those he suggests could have an impressive 2013/14 – perhaps investment in the midlanders’ attacking assets for the double Gameweek may not be a bad idea after all.
Meanwhile, Gimli Son of Gloin has taken an epic trek through the main captaincy options to help those looking at heavy hitters over the first few weeks. SW6’s Home and Away analysis was another post to catch our eye, especially his look at West Ham’s shockingly poor away form.
Finally, Camzy was on hand to wrap up some other key decisions that have been vexing the community over the last week, such as Anelka versus Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez as a cheap striker option. Whether to invest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet and a non-playing goalkeeper, as opposed to picking up two rotating keepers, was another key question analysed in this post.

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) reached the second round of bidding for midfielders over the week. Man City, owned by Messimerized, went on quite a shopping as they acquired the duo of David Silva and Javier Martinez. Meanwhile Fulham, under PeppieandFelix, still lead the game, with Norwich, led by The Shadow, and 4vets’ Liverpool inching closer to the lead. The deadline for submission of bids on strikers is Saturday 23.59 hrs BST. Anyone interested can still sign up here.
