With a blazing Gameweek 33 cooled off we check out the stats that matter in the Sky game using the usual info, including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 34.
Gameweek 33 Man of the Match Awards
Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man of the Match award.
Fixture | MoTM |
Man United vs Aston Villa | Wayne Rooney |
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea | Cameron Jerome |
Southampton vs Newcastle | Adam Lallana |
Stoke vs Hull | Asmir Begovic |
Swansea vs Norwich | Wayne Routledge |
West Brom vs Cardiff | Steven Caulker |
Arsenal vs Man City | Santi Cazorla |
Fulham vs Everton | Steven Naismith |
Liverpool vs Tottenham | Luis Suarez |
Sunderland vs West Ham | Andy Carroll |
Five of the ten awards went to forwards this week with midfielders chipping in with three and defenders and goalkeepers claiming one each. Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez delivered for us after we backed them last week as our preferred captain options – Suarez is now joint top with Eden Hazard for MoTM awards with nine each whilst Rooney is close behind on eight.
Gameweek 33 Bonus Points
Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – Tim Howard and Robert Elliot were the top performers with seven saves each. Vito Mannone also managed bonus, as per usual, and sits head and shoulders above the competition on 26 additional points.
In defence, only five players gathered bonus, three for tackles and two for passes completed – full-back John Flanagan was a good player to own this week as he gathered tackling bonus, a clean sheet and an assist to bring home a tidy haul of 12 points. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 26 extra bonus points.
In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – seven for tackling and six for passes. Sunderland’s anchor man Liam Bridcutt was the closet to achieving both, missing out by one completed challenge. Cheik Tiote is the games top bonus-earner with 40 extra points.

Alvaro Negredo’s stock continues to decline after a lack of first team action. Emmanuel Adebayor is back for Spurs on Monday night, though Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscienly are still sidelined. Olivier Giroud’s lack of consistency also sees 3.31% of Fantasy managers part ways with the Frenchman.
Top Transfers In
Name | Team | Value | % of Managers |
Sturridge | Liverpool | 9.2 | 4.85% |
Rooney | Man Utd | 9.6 | 3.88% |

Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney continue to rise in ownership due to their impressive form. As per usual Liverpool assets are being targeted once again, with Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard also featuring for the Merseysiders this week. Jay Rodriguez’s two-goal display against Newcastle has brought him to the attention of a further 3.69% of Fantasy managers.
Gameweek 34 Proposed Captain Strategy
Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 34, there is an option for three captains if you wish to use a transfer.
Our Strategy:
Wayne Rooney (Newcastle Away) → Luis Suarez (West Ham Away) → Emmanuel Adebayor (Sunderland at Home)
For the fixtures on Saturday April 5, we’re backing Wayne Rooney to produce the goods once again against a lacklustre Newcastle side – Man United have been strong on the road, and with Rooney not only likely to be fielded up top but also with penalties added to his repertoire, he looks a solid option.
For Sunday April 6, a switch to Luis Suarez is the obvious choice once again as Liverpool travel to Upton Park.
For the match played on Monday evening, using a captain change or transfer to give Emmanuel Adebayor the armband looks a canny move, as not only does it mean we can get three captains this week, but it serves to set us up for Gameweek 35 when Tottenham travel to The Hawthorns on Saturday the 12th.
