The ScoutCast – Episode 132 – Climax

The final ScoutCast of the season found Granville and I take on the might of Hall of Fame legend, Evs, top 300 ranked Applebonkers and our very own high flyer – Jonty. We certainly know how to make ourselves feel inadequate.

In a mix of retrospective naval gazing and forward thinking speculation, my co-host and I tackle the usual ScoutCast regulars, before we’re joined by our guests to take on another raft of community questions. We talk Gameweek 38 punts, the deadball divas that are Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure and consider the lessons learned from the past nine months.

You can listen in on the edited Podcast version of the show via this link or the player immediately below, or get the warts and all Hangout version – complete with childminding and Jason Puncheon toilet breaks – via the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Pretty much the same for me. Although it's the same even at the start of the season, as I don't really have any friends who play FPL seriously 😆

      For me, the motivation has been to have some fun in community tournaments and secondary objective of trying to improve on my own rank.

      I'm duelling with rohn. I'm currently 11pts ahead but I'm taking a HUGE punt this week. Should be interesting

    Ok. Final game showdown. I am 5 points behind my league leader before any transfers. He has 2 free transfers 0m in bank.
    I only have 1 transfer and 0.6m in the bank so was thinking of getting Mannone for Adrián.

    Not sure who he will choose for his captain this week but I am worried about the difference of his Gerrard to my Mata.

    Would anyone go for a -4 hit for someone or just play it sake with a simple 5m or under goal keeper change only??

        Cheers, not particularly happy with Aguero or Sturridge but I don't want to take a hit for Aguero and I can't find anyone better than Sturridge that I know will play and has a nice fixture.

        In an ideal world my team would be:

        Schwarzer

        Yaya Hazard Silva Sterling Eriksen

    I think the burning question is which secondary striker to have.

    Have both Suarez and Aguero (as I'm assuming most others) but having a hard time picking between Dzeko and Sturridge.

    I'm betwixt and between about what to do to cover my rival. I'm second, seven points behind in a league of 75. Our mids/front lines are identical (Yaya/Mata/Nasri/ Saurez/Dzeko) apart from he has Gerrard and Bony, to my AJ and Rooney...

    Options.

    a. AJ>Gerrard and hope Rooney plays to match Bony or else Jedinak subbing in?

    b. Rooney>Sturridge to cover double Liverpool and hope AJ matches Bony? (unlikely!)

    c. Get both for a 4 pointer

    Any thoughts?

    Then there's the captain choice!

    Does this seem too boring for a final GW transfer?

    Evra ---> Ivanovic

    My rival has double Chelsea defence and I don't have any and he's 9 points ahead of me... I think if Chelsea were to keep a CS I'd lose to him... seem like a solid move?

      If he's ahead, you'd probably be better of using the FT on a player who has a higher upside I think. Someone like Hazard or Eriksen or Dz.

        These are the current differences between out starting elevens:

        Dzeko, Eriksen, Koscielny, Evra and Speroni vs Borini, Nasri, Cahill, Vidic and Mannone

        I feel like he's going to bench his other Chelsea defender as his defence is pretty strong, I think Eriksen and Dzeko vs Nasri and Borini favours me but I don't know where he's going to make his transfer...

      Tell the missus you want to go off and buy her something nice. Go to H and M, buy a reduced £4 jumper (discard price tag and receipt), make your way to the food court/bookmakers, 3 hours later meet up with her and tell her you've spent all that time finding the perfect present. That's what I've done a few times, works a treat!

    A) Rooney + Mata -> Sturridge(c) + Hazard (-4)
    B) Rooney + Ramsey -> Sturridge(c) + Gerrard (-4)

    Chasing a rival who has both Mata and Ramsey and doesn't have Hazard or Gerrard, so I'm definitely going to make one of these moves to give me a chance, even if the hit doesn't look too necessary. Which one would you go for?

    Should I do Ramsey or Eriksen to Sterling for 2nd hit? Or to go with this:

    -----------Speroni----------
    --Coleman--Demi--Azpi--Alonso--
    --Nasri--Eriksen--Ramsey--
    --Suarez(C)--Aguero--Lukaku

    Bench:Harper - Mata - Puncheon - Vlaar

    Last question for the night.

    Let's say am going to Captain Aguero or Dzeko over Suarez as a differential (am in 2nd place in my league. 3 points behind).

    Which one. Have been burned by Aguero one too many times, am thinking it's Dzeko

      Is it worth doing Aguero->Dzeko -4 to fund Ramsey->Gerrard?
      Could go Sterling but rival has him and chasing. Rival also have Aguero.

      Eventually could do Rooney->Cheaper than Sturridge.

        Can someone check Sergio's twitter account ?

        Just been told he tweeted he's not fully fit but the "excitement of the day" will carry him through.

        If true he's clearly on the bench.

              The stats say it will be a low scoring game, add to that the amount of CS Southampton have kept recently and the uncertainty over the amount of game time he will get, I can understand why people want him out.

                  To be fair though Goggs was on a mission to give game time to a wide range of players. Well he's done that now. Surely the right Ning now is to go out on a high and play the established players.

                    The game in which Mata started in the DGW, United were very poor and he Mata did not play particularly well, so I am not as confident as you that he will play and perform well.

                    Of Course I may be completely wrong but his stats for the last 4 GW are less than 4 points per game.

                  No, Mata was on the bench against Norwich because Rooney was fit (and Giggs gave a game to Welbeck) and then he was rested against Hull because Giggs played the youngsters. So for me he is a key player for the future of United and he has to play

                        I know why he didn't play, that is not the issue. The issue is will he play against Southampton and if he does will he perform well. Looking at the data, I just feel that there are two many unknowns on whether he will play or not and even if he does the stats do not indicate a high scoring game.

                        Yes I realise the stats don't always get it right but I am staying clear of Mata as I feel it is too risky to have him but it may be a gamble you are willing to take and it may pay off for you.
