FFS UEFA Hockey World Cup – Matchday 1

Here’s our regular update on the competition, featuring a look at our friendlies that took place over Gameweek 4, the Live Scorecast and a look ahead to the start of the tournament itself when Matchday 1 kicks off this weekend. Please use this article for all tournament chat.

Friendlies

Over Gameweek 4 players got a taste of the Hockey World Cup team format with the friendlies being held prior to the real games.

The final results have been updated in the Cup spreadsheet

Live ScoreCast

Pratik has now launched the Live ScoreCast Tool, which lets you view the scores in real time as the Premier League games are on. So as Chelsea’s Diego Costa bangs in a goal and his four FPL points are added you will now be able to watch your hockey team’s scores rocket. Remember to bookmark this link.

Update on TFF’s Quiz

If you haven’t checked out The Fantasy Freak’s new quiz initiative to further fuel the team spirit in this arena, do so now – TFF’s Quizzes are back with a twist. He conducted a couple of quizzes over the week and here is what the Hockey World Cup leader board looks like:

Lineup Submission

All managers are requested to email me their four substitutes and their FPL IDs before the deadline of Friday, 19 Sep, 2359 BST. In case he or she fails to do so, the autosubs will be the last four players on the Squads Page.

Managers may also be likely to post any pressers on this article here. So be on the watch for latest team news, especially from your enemies. As previously, please keep all the match day banter on this thread.

belgium, we can be proud in defeat. neutrals and spectators will remember our match for years to come as the highest scoring of the tournament. if we divide our scores by our respective populations we did pretty well 😉
we leave with our heads held high and a signed photo of sachin tendulkar each, thankyou india for those. hockey sticks down and to the absinthe bar we go.

Since all us Aussies are seemingly staying Classy and keeping mum, I'll shed some class and hog some of that spotylight on our win last night.
First and foremost kudos to our Skipper JK for filling in the shoes of our Manager for the week. You'd have forgiven him for any lapse in the Manager's rating for the week instead he comes up with as optimal a selection as practically feasible.
Our VC Notorious leading from the front with yet another top score.
Mention to our week's top performer Captain Shirokov, two solid weeks for him as well.
Finally big cheers to our entire squad, bringing home the goods against a formidable Malaysian side boasting names as big as they come in Fantasy Football, on the back of such a strong preseason as well.
I can't help but picture our gaffer SW6 hoping with joy along with the 'roos somewhere in the Kakadu Down under.

Good Morning Ladies and Gentleman, We awake today bleary eyed with pounding heads after last nights wild celebrations. From the Kyocera stadium to the centre of the capital, The Hague, the streets resemble the aftermath of an explosion at a bog roll factory. Trees lining the boulevards look like ghostly willows as the bog paper cascading down from the branches flutter gently in the cool morning breeze. Gauchos stumble along swaying merrily arm in arm swigging the last drops of their flagons of red wine. The home nation wakes in mourning. Sullen looking street cleaners shuffle along filling bag after bag with tattered Dutch flags and shattered dreams.

Going by the U.S police codes it's Argentina: Reckless Driving, Holland :Theft but to you and me it's Argentina 505 Holland 484. There was certainly nothing reckless about the way Argentina robbed Holland of victory this weekend! It was Argentina who took the early initiative in the fixture and Holland bravely tried to keep up with the pace and put up a great fight showing real spirit but from early on Argentina never looked back and despite a nervy finish held their lead right until the end.

We would like to commiserate the home nation and we wish them the very best of luck for their next two games. We would hate to be party poopers and hope that they make it through the group stages for the good of the tournament. We hope to do our part as we aim for a clean sweep in the group.

For now we focus on Germany. We don't underestimate the challenge ahead and our preparations are already underway.

We're delighted with this victory, it's a fantastic platform to build on which is exactly what we plan to do.
