Just a general point of caution about odds like these.

They don't only represent how likely the bookmakers think the various outcomes are. They also represent how popular they think the various bets will be with punters.

For example, you can almost always get better odds backing England abroad than you can in England. In England the bookies shorten those odds because they know a lot of people will just back England anyway. Same with boxing - when Lennox Lewis used to fight in Las Vegas (for example) you could always get better odds backing him in the USA than in the UK.

So the odds above represent what the bookies believe popular opinion will be. They are in no way a neutral assessment of probabilities. Bookies exist to make profits, not to provide a service to FPL managers. 😉

I'm aware and thanks for clearing that up, these are just a general indicator, certainly not a decision maker. Betting exchanges websites are probably better, this is just the most popular one on here

Sure. I'm not decrying it, I sometimes look at anytime goalscorer odds myself. Just offering a caution about reading them the wrong way.

apparently the bookies also think that Alexis doesn't need to be the focal point of the team to keep scoring goals

No. They think punters (especially Arsenal fans) will carry on backing him regardless.

Then how come Alexis managed to score 21 goals last season playing alongside Messi and Neymar?

Please don't tell me there is no defense in La Liga, because in Premier League last season Liverpool and Man City scored 100+ goals.

What has that got to do with this thread? If you want to discuss Sanchez' performance last season start another one. This one is about bookmakers' odds.

I asked you the same question on an Alexis related thread earlier, but couldn't get an answer. (You probably didn't see it.)

You make solid skeptical questioning comments here, so I wanted to challenge your recent Alexis comments with a factual counter argument to see how you'd respond.

    One last time, maybe...

    Foster Panti
    Clyne Lescott Wolly PvA! Baird!
    Wally! Caz JWP! (Haz Eriksen)
    Aguero Giroud (Costa)

    2FT & 1.8m ITB

Settled on Costa> Rooney but not too sure after that.

    A. Wally/Eriksen>Silva
    B. JWP>Moses
    C. PvA/Baird>?
    D. Two of the three for a hit?
    E. Something else

Two mid moves. With three playing defenders you are ahead of the pack this week, so hits should be for big payoffs.

I think it has to be D because you have so many uncertain starters . You also can't swap out Wally or JWP because you have so few starters PVA might get back into the team too so you can't swap him . Eriksen and Baird < Silva and Naughton/Wolly

      1. Not Irish
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

Baird could start with Morrison injured though. JWP>Moses in that case?

    4. Ruth_NZ
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

      OK, here's my two pennorth.

I think Walcott will play. In which case the Costa to Rooney transfer is the one that offers by far the biggest upside. I also think Rooney is the best captain option this week.

If you don't think Walcott will play then Walcott to Silva is also good. Another one that offers a good upside although I don't see an enormous amount of goals in that game.

JWP to Moses I would discount because it unbalances your squad, do you really want 5.2 tied up in a 5th mid?

PVA and Baird need sorting at some stage but it's less rewarding. However Baird to Naughton (rotates perfectly with Wollscheid) can effectively be done for -2 as a 2nd transfer seeing you'll only play 9 or 10 otherwise.

Eriksen I would keep as you have him. He might do well in DGW and after Sunday Spurs only have the PL to focus on. Their upcoming fixtures are generally good.

In summary I would do Costa to Rooney (c) and Baird to Naughton if it were my team.

        Cheers.

The thing is I think I would prefer Ivan for the run in so if I ditch Terry now I can bring Ivan in as we approach the DGW.

This makes the most sense in the long run, I think. Bert and Ivan will be the duo to have.

My squad is no better or worse off if I get rid of Terry or PVA. In fact, I am better of keeping PVA as at least he has a fixture.

            This is my problem too.

Terry to Berty allows an extra player should those suddenly not play, plus getting Ivan seems the priority

Was always on option A but suddenly have doubts over Eriksen for DGW.......just don't think he'll get both games. What do you guys think?

    A) Terry + Dawson + Eriksen
    B) Bertrand + Zouma + Di maria (or Eriksen + cash)?

      A

I think eriksen is the 2nd best player to have for next week after Kane. He 3rd top scoring Mf overall brings both goal threat and assist potential. Takes direct and indirect free kicks and corners. And has only not started one game where he came on at half time because we were sh1t without him. He does get dragged early sometimes but that's how he generally gets his rest. I'd expect between about 120 - 170 minutes for him overall with 2 decent fixtures.

      What is not to like?

1 week punt for Oscar, who do I go with ?

I'm thinking Walcott, he's a cert to start and play the full 90. also think arsenal may turn it on after their loss to Monaco.

    What you think?

this. id stay cleear of walcott as arsenal has anarray of attacking options like sanchez cazorla ozil giroud welbeck ox and there will be rotation

As a pool fan, Id be worried. Obviously the usual Europa league issues taking it out of players, but thats 120 minutes of backs to the wall play, plus 90 of a hard fought win over southampton.

Augero could cut through the tired defence if we are not careful

Maybe Sterling felt fatigue from playing a whole 120 minutes compared to Lovren.
Taking a penalty isn't THAT hard. Professional footballers should hit the net everytime.

Just seeing Lovren walking up with the ball he should have done a Mario and ran up and grabbed the ball off him.

He can't really kick a football properly though. Scuffing a shot so that it trickled directly into the keeper's hands, as is de rigueur with him, would not have been effective in a shoot out.

    Rodgers on the Lovren's penalty:

“Dejan was happy to take a penalty – you see the five penalties takers were all confident,” he added.

“The four before had experience before in a penalty competition this season – and they were confident.

“We are disappointed for him because he had played really well in the game but someone has to miss, and unfortunately it was us.”
