FFS Cup

The Fantasy Football Scout Leagues and Cup Round-Up

For the final time, we assess the Scout leagues in a variety of Fantasy games after the campaign drew to a close at the weekend, with leagues in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Ultimate Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports to look back on. In addition, we reveal the winner of the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI Final and find out who was the champion of champions in our Scout Picks Community Challenge.

FPL, Fantasy Football Scout League. Winner: Simon March, Overall Ranking 1

Simon March, known to many on FFScout as Dufflinks, won the Scout League and Members League and was also crowned world number one in the FPL game. Since claiming the number one spot in Gameweek 23 his sensible approach to transfers, which involved saving his wildcard until Gameweek 34 and taking no hits, was enough to see him over the finishing line. A goal from his captain Sergio Aguero, allied with a commanding lead going into the final Gameweek, proved pivotal and made up for the fact that his final transfer of the season (Seb Larsson to Yannick Bolasie) failed to pay off. Simon finished on 2,470 points, 21 ahead of his nearest rival.

Jon Sumner (aka Jinswick), rose from fourth to second in the final Gameweek of the season thanks to an audacious pair of transfers involving a hit. Out went Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard and in came Theo Walcott as vice captain and Diego Costa as captain, with his new recruits scoring four goals between them. In the end, his final Gameweek net score of 69, which gave him a total of 2449, was just short but cemented a place in FFScout folklore for his bravery and a second place finish overall.

Kev Gleave dropped from second to third and finished with a respectable final Gameweek score of 46 points, thanks to a goal from Jamie Vardy and his captain Aguero. Hanging onto Eden Hazard, who claimed an assist and two bonus points, also helped secure a final points tally of 2439. He also matched his league placing in the overall rankings.

Mariusz Fyrstenberg retained the fourth spot after drafting in Walcott and Christian Benteke for a hit. With a net score of 52 Mariusz finished sixth in the overall rankings with a final points tally of 2427, also thanks to goals from Aguero, Harry Kane and Esteban Cambiasso.

In fifth was Stuart Shingler, who was another non-mover as the season came to a close. He finishes on 2406 points and an overall rank of 13. Santi Cazorla, Aguero, Vardy and Jeffrey Schlupp were his stars in Gameweek 38.

FPL,FFS Members League. Winner: Simon March, Overall Ranking 1

As mentioned above, world number one Simon March also won this season’s FFS Members league. In second is Jack Wain, who comments under the name Jawain. He finished on 2415 points and ninth in the overall rankings, while Stuart Shingler took third place in our Members league.

Ultimate Fantasy Premier League. Winner: Damian Lindall – Overall Ranking 3

Damian Lindall clung onto first place to win our UFPL league and finished third overall with a total of 2,847 points. This came despite his Gameweek 38 captaincy of Romelu Lukaku letting him down. In second is Milanista on 2837, while Sean Tobin climbed to third place and finished on 2782. Amongst the top ten was fifth placed Alex Bowers, who won the Beta version of the game last season and remains one to watch in our UFPL league next season.

Sky Sports Fantasy Football. Winner: Geoff Pryor  – Overall Ranking 1

After finishing fifth overall in last year’s Sun Dream Team, Geoff Pryor has done even better in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game, taking first place in our league and the overall rankings. His score of 2432 points was 37 ahead of second placed Katie Burgin, while John Eaton, with a score of 2432 took third. Katie’s score was enough to clinch fourth spot in the overall rankings, while John finished in fifth. Geoff scoops the top prize in the game of £30,000.

Fantasy Football Scout Paddy Power Cup XI. Winner: Mark

Mark’s sensational end of season run, that saw him claim an overall rank of 42, also earned him victory in the final of the Fantasy Football Scout Paddy Power Cup XI. He defeated faux_C by seven points thanks to drafting in Ulloa and keeping the faith in Hazard’s ability to recover from dental surgery. Mark wins £125 worth of free bets with Paddy Power for winning the Cup and gaining the highest score of the round. He can also treat himself to a £100 Amazon voucher as winner. Faux-C picks up £50 of free bets and a £50 Amazon voucher. Meanwhile, Hutton Dressed as Lahm won the third place play off against Hammers XI 46-43 and wins £50 of free bets and a £25 Amazon voucher.

FFScout Community Scout Picks Champion of Champions: Kings of Lyon

Kings of Lyon has won a £100 Amazon voucher after gaining the highest Gameweek score of the season among our Community Champions, who are selected each week by the community to help compile our Scout Picks. His Gameweek 36 score of 77 proved unbeatable. In our Scout Picks Challenge, Jonty (that’s me) emerged with the highest total over the season with 2011, followed by Paul on 1946, Mark on 1933 and the community champion’s final overall total was 1893, after Andy85wsm’s Gameweek 38 tally of 41 points was added in.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Our official Champions League game this season is the Fantasy iTeam (FiT) offering – a free, reliable and easy-to-use Fantasy football app. With just the final remaining, Adriel Cheung leads the way on 852 points – 26 points ahead of Gavin Rolston, whilst Juan Garcia is close behind Gavin in third, on 825 points. There’s an iPad mini on offer to the winner – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 11155.

I think instead of calling it United or City or whatever XI, we should call it the World XI. Here's mine:

    Neuer
Dani Alves, Ramos, Thiago Silva, Baines
    Schweini, Iniesta
    Robben, Messi, Ronaldo
    Zlatan

    There. Beat that.

Bernat isn't first choice at his club lol.

I think Baines is underrated and would compete against those guys for a place. It's just that he is at Everton, he is looked over mostly. His delivery is good, he can take free kicks and penos. He is decent defensively. He makes overlapping runs to support wingers ahead of him. Don't really see how he is a bad option.

Bernat plays every week. And he's better than Baines.

Used to play an SPL one in work (Im Scottish).
Was rubbish. Simply picked Celtic striker, Rangers striker and that was half the work.
This was back when Rangers existed before a Sevco trading as "Rangers" took their place in the league setup of Scotland.

Plenty of sayings make little sense if you scrutinise them. Like someone being a 'natural striker'. Nobody is born able to score goals. Apart from Benteke.

Pretty much all of them. Margaret Beaufort thought in some quarters to have had the brothers in The Tower topped so only Dickie the third stood between Henry Tudor (exiled in France) and the throne, whereas had Henry come over and defeated Dickie the boys would still have been king in succession to each other.
All the royal women were well at the conspiracies (evil bags) with everyone and then selling them out when it suited them.

They've all been detained. Surely they'll need to cough up anyway. They may even be awarded lesser sentences for spilling the beans on Blatter. Either way, there will be plenty of cold hard evidence against Blatter, the 18 and 22 World Cup bids, and loads more.

Also, I don't think I know one person who thinks that Blatter is doing a good job. Does anyone you know ever been pro-Blatter? How it's taken this long even, is beyond me.

+1. Was Qatar awarded the World Cup because it's a beautiful country with ideal temperatures for football, a massive following of the game with fantastic stadium infrastructure, excellent labour laws and work conditions?

The World Cup is going to England in 2018 and USA in 2022.

Those would be fine choices but perhaps the USA one might be a little tricky. As the country that has been prepared to take FIFA to task, for what we all knew anyway, it may appear a little self serving if they hosted one. I'm not sure it would be the best of diplomatic moves.

Well England did that as well, to be honest. Or our newspapers at least.

But the way I see it, the USA are just cleaning up FIFA.

If the host nations are not found guilty of anything, and I mean the host nation and not a citizen of said nation, then the host nation could claim damages against Fifa if they stop the tournaments.

Hence I wrote indirectly.....Payments by vested interest of the host nation pose the same problem. As it stands then the losing nations from those bidding processes would equally be able to sue FIFA.

However, the losing nations have not spent the money on building stadiums. Its much harder to quantify how much losing the bidding has cost them, whereas its easy to quantify the costs of the stadiums.

That would be under Qatar laws rather than National, so I doubt it.

And if those indirect payments by individuals just happened to be with the knowledge of the state, either in full pr in part ?....albeit on the quiet...

Bit further to that those questions of sueing FIFA only arise if the competition is cancelled. My point was that nations should take it upon themselves to boycott any corrupt bid. Nobody can force them to take part.

I mean, would any PLAYERS actually be up for Qatar? I think all the major football leagues would pay their players a little bonus to stay and play league football, meaning the England team is filled with Conference players.

Agreed, it is horrendous how little a life matters to them in the scheme of getting stadiums built. I wouldn't trade a world cup for one life, let alone the number Qatar are willing to sacrifice by the time everything is built.

How exactly will you boycott the events?

Not travel to Russia/Qatar? well would you have gone there anyway? most fans couldn't afford to even if they were minded to.

Not watch on TV? I can't see FIFA or the organising committees being swayed by you not watching on TV.

Not buying Coke/Adidas/Gazprom/Hyundai products? Not sure about you, but I don't really spend much money with those companies anyway, and it won't impact the organising committees in any way.

Boycotts are such a blunt instrument. By all means take the moral high ground and feel good about yourself by boycotting if you want to, but if the intention is to change behaviours I feel you may be somewhat disappointed.

It'd be up the the FA and other international organisations though. Somehow I doubt they will want to boycott the tournament. Individual players may boycott playing for their national side though in protest

Indeed. The only way it might work is if UEFA collectively decide to boycott the events, which would reduce them to glorified Copa Américas. But would they really want to skip 2 world cups in succession, particularly given how much money they would be foregoing?

It won't. Or at least not financially. They've already earned their cut of the monies whichever players turn up to play.

It would hit their future sponsorship deals. But I agree a boycott has to come from Uefa, and it wont.

We need international engineering firms to be able to work in the middle east and breed a culture of safety rather than being too scared for their injury figures to take a nosedive. Its not helped by the no bribery laws being extremely difficult to uphold in these areas.

For the record, middle east is a generalisation here that isnt fair to all areas of the middle east.
