Having second thoughts about transferring Wilson out after seeing his stats but if you can't score against Villa at home...

bournemouth were a bit meh to be honest. You would expect chances at home to villa with many new defenders.

Maybe it might take him a while to settle but after all the talk about bournemouth being this attacking side I was very disappointed with the number of chances created

Things I've learnt/concluded from the weekend: (Haven't watched any footage from New-Sou yet).

1.) Payet looks class (and West Ham look good to invest in right now).
2.) Chelsea are not firing on all cylinders just yet- perhaps it's the lack of competition for places but they don't seem the same hungry team that started last season.
3.) Despite the big scores for other cheapy mids like Mahrez and Albrighton, I'm fairly confident Ritchie and Johnson (my picks) will pick up goals/assists eventually.
4.) Cech to Arsenal will NOT be worth "an extra 12 points or so this season". I thought that was a ludicrous statement at the time (can't remember what pundit said it). IMO it's Chelsea who have done the better business. Begovic > Cech
5.) Henderson is less attractive playing in a midfield 2 with Milner.
6.) The promoted teams look leaky and defensive rotations involving them should be treated with caution.
7.) Still a lot of uncertainty regarding team selections e.g. Arsenal!
8.) Everton still have defensive issues and their defence should be avoided.
9.) Schneiderlin and Darmian have added steel to the Utd team, who should be stronger defensively this year. Unfortunately, Schneiderlin is not an FPL prospect though, but Darmian looks to be.
10.) FPL is as unpredictable as ever! How you react to the rather freakish gw1 will shape your season. I advocate patience- just think, hundreds of thousands of managers will freak out and make bad decisions. This is when we dedicated FPLers come into our own! 🙂

      good points

especially #10. I'm being patient right now. This comes with experience. I have learned from my 1st season last year that you have to be patient with players and not overreact after one week. You have to trust your plan if you believe in it.

I've thought for a long time that Cech to Arsenal was not the miraculously signing that everyone was heralding it as (very nearly put him done for "worst signing 2014-15" for the Scouts predictions but chickened out.

Did you see the footage from today? Cech was at fault for both goals, which is not promising at all. his positioning for the 2nd was horrific.

No it isnt. That equivalent to saying mahrez is better than ozil based on gameweek. Cech has been world class for years. Begovic has been very good nut not in the same class

The thing with goalkeepers at top clubs is that they can go years in front of a class defence without being properly exposed. For me, Cech is not the same player as he was back in the mid to late 2000s, when he most definitely was world-class. Lots of people think the head-injury incident was a turning point. Just my opinion. Love the debate. Oh and by the way, I do think Mahrez is the best player in the prem at the moment, closely followed by Albrighton! 😉

At one time Cech was a great keeper. Begovic has been very good the past three seasons probably around in par with Cech. He's younger, has less obvious foibles, in ore manoeuvrable and is more athletic. Cech is out of shape and a shadow of his former self. Used to love him but not a fan now/for a while

cech is still a great keeper and for me the best in the division after de gea... for me to say i think he's the best after de gea is perhaps debatable and im willing to have that out with u or anyone.. but on the other hand cech remains a top class keeper and infinitely more able than begovic and that just isnt open for debate

On (2) - Swansea started pre-season a week sooner than most teams and Chelsea a week later than most so Swansea were actually 2 weeks ahead in preparation. It's a bit soon to draw conclusions from Chelsea's level although there may be something missing. Transfer window isn't closed for 3 weeks though and Cuadrado out could herald a major signing.

On (4), it's too early to judge Cech as well. He's a great GK and will show it over time. But he's used to playing behind JT & Co and he will have some uncertainty to start with. Begovic is not a better GK.

      Tremendous post.

      I not going to panic.

      Here is my team:

      Myhill - Hennesey

      Cedric - Jenkinson - Huth - Francis - Coates

      Hazard - Sterling - Ozil - Mane - Surman

      Rooney - Kane - Sakho

Given that and my unwillingness to take a hit this early, would you do Ozil to Payet (the better class player) or Ozil to Mahrez (as a better investment due to price rises)?

      Any feedback is appreciated!

IMO, the main thing to worry about is how you're going to get City coverage (i.e. Aguero for gw4). I'm actually debating Hazard to Payet to free up funds, which I'll use to do Rooney to Aguero in gw4 (I have the same front-line as you plus Hazard too). The question is do I wait until gw3 to do that transfer. If I think Hazard will score more this week than Payet then I should definitely wait, despite Payet's good fixture gw2. I'm yet to properly sit down and work this one out. Saving the transfer is often worth it. Ozil out is also a good way of freeing funds. I wouldn't worry about the defence just yet.

          Thanks for the response.

I actually set up my team with Aguero in mind. I can easily transfer out Mane or Ozil or Sterling for Mahrez and use those funds to upgrade either Rooney or Kane to Aguero.

So we are mostly on the same page.

How to survive a gw1 disaster : a free guide to life in million plus rank

1 - don't panic. It gw1. Seasons are never won or lost in gw1
2 - unless your player is injured (Baines) or clearly out of favour, think again of the reasons you chose him in the first place - surely it was not for 1 gw
3 - treat every transfer as it is for a bit. It will do wanders to your game
4 - curse. Scream. Shout. Let it all out. But stay away from the wc button.
5 - don't jump bandwagons - price rises are important but what really should be your priority is price drops.
6 - form is temporary, class is permanent. Mahrez is not really better than mane.
7 - remember - this was a bad gw for most - when the average score is low, the deviation is low - you are probably only 10-15 points behind a nice score. That's nothing. Having a bad score on a very high scoring gw is much worst.
8 - look at fixtures ahead - mahrez scored well, but his next few fixtures will not be Sunderland at home.
9 - the fact that one of your mini leagues is now led by the guy from the office who used auto complete is annoying I know (true story...) - it won't take long before he drops like a stone.
10 - this should teach you not to lol@ people when they are down.

Good post. It could always be worse. My 29 points are truly turgid (I didn't get below 30 once last year) but my mate has 28 points AND inexplicably played his bench boost

      Let's point and laugh

Oh wait, we can't do that...

I don't see the point in making a transfer for the 2nd GW:

This line up and bench order look ok?

    Myhill
    Williams / Cedric / Koscielny
    Sterling / Hazard / Milner (v) / Ramsey
    Kane (c) / Wilson / Rooney

    (Ruddy / King / Huth / Francis)

    Cheers guys

Funny how we were all struggling to decide between the many 8.5m mid options before the season started.

Turns out all of the 7m's were the way to go.

I actually kept Chadli because I wasn't all that interesting in most of the 8.5m mids, still not.

    @Captain Shirokov

It makes perfect sense for United to get Pedro if he's available. Mata is not natural right sided player in a 433. Whereas Pedro knows the position inside after playing there for Barca!

Just because a forward and CB is needed doesn't mean we shouldn't get Pedro lol

transfer activity vs. price changes has been a moving target every season I can remember. There is no formula available... it needs to be derived before they can guess at it.

(Caveat: I haven't visited either site for months)

FFF says no-one tonight. No-one rising super fast either.

Had Sanchez scored today there would have been a deluge of Hazard to Sanchez transfers. If Aguero scores tomorrow there may be a bunch of Rooney to Aguero switches. But the most attractive players this weekend have all been in the 5.5 to 7.5 range and it is likely not everyone will go for the same one.

There may not be many price changes at all this week.

Asked a similar question on the last page, plus Wijnaldum. Ayew seems to be the most popular choice, Payet 2nd and Cabaye/Wij better options a few GWs from now apparently.

No forget Cabaye, Palace fixtures are bonkers. Might even go super low and get Albrighton. If I want to keep Hazard, Augero and another heavy hitter, gonna have to do that anyway.

Would go for Payet personally, looked good and good upcoming games!

Despite Cabaye's fixtures I'm surprised a few more aren't acquiring him. Proven FPL scorer and at 6.5m offers great value, share of set pieces and goal scoring potential for a midfielder. I know I'm biased but a cheap mans Fabregas is hard to overlook even with the hellish next 4 of 5 fixtures.

Tempted to reorganise my midfield over the international break to consist of almost entirely mid bracket guys. I'm not convinced that Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Sterling are worth the outlay, and I really like the idea of something like:

    Mane / Ayew / Cabaye / Payet / Arsenal 8.5

or swapping for Tadic, Winjaldum, Siggy, Richie, Mahrez, Sinclair, Lens etc.

Freeing up cash for Rooney, Aguero, Costa

Well with Azpil and Kosc likely to always play and my BOU/WAT defenders rotating, at 4.0m it's a risk I'm willing to take! Entirely dependant on whether your bench can support it though, you don't want him to not play and then struggle to find the 0.5 to upgrade him back (in addition to a transfer, 2 total) to a playing 4.5 if you have other bench concerns.

Another thing working in his favour is his opportunity to break the youngest goalscorer record. Whilst I highly doubt he will (last chance is against Liverpool), with West Ham's next two fixtures West Ham might just afford him the opportunity to do so ...

    RMWCT

    Adrian - McCarthy
    Azpillicueta - Darmian - Clyne - Gomez - Oxford
    Hazard - Sanchez - Payet - Mahrez - Albrighton
    Aguero - Gomis - Ighalo

Double Liverpool defense seems silly. Ighalo and Albrighton in a hybrid 343 352 doesn't seem great to me either.

After last season's dark week I had only scored 17 (I think) after everyone blanked, Foster got injured and Coloccini got sent off. Everything got better from there 🙂
    Don't panic

In all serioussness, how many of you are wildcarding or taking more than a 4 point hit this week?

I got a terrible score this week but realistically the only player who did well that I'd want long term is Darmian, and I'm not changing the rest of the team just to accomodate a defender.

People like Hazard, Mane, Cazorla, Chadli etc will still be good picks, just not this week.

      Easy save for me, Pika.

      Save. 3 transfers in GW3 for a 4pt hit.

good post, keep faith with the majority of the team that was good enough 48 hours ago, am taking a hit to get Benteke for Lukaku as a captain choice.

Didn't see the Leicester game but read that they played 442? does that mean mahrez was on the wing not #10?

was thinking of knee jerking him in but on the wing he doesn't sound as appealing and also more of a rotation threat with their options and tinker man?

What options? Can't see him being dropped, most of their attackers play in the front 2. Wouldn't worry about minutes, and on the wing isn't bad either. Big thing is him being on pens

He spent the whole game cutting in and shooting. 6 shots, 3 on target and 4 key assists.

Might take the same approach I took last year and not let price changes (or speculative price changes) dictate who I bring in and when I make the transfer. Made little to no early transfers last year and it resulted in my highest ever finish by some bit. Patience seems to be a great tool when it comes to FPL.

I think that is the sensible way to play the game. I'll be joining you, Indalo.

The only knee-jerky thing im thinking about is maybe Mane to Payet, but I do have Pelle and was maybe being overenthusiastic about Southamptons goalscoring ability. I'll probably stick, but West ham have two good fixtures, and it provides 'coverage'.

Yes I know people hate the term coverage.

Stick, mate. Mane had a few good scoring chances that he fluffed. He'll be fine.
