Update Four is now live, introducing heatmaps as a major new feature, along with another round of tweaks and improvements.
Once again Matz1lla has done us proud with his efforts, as we continue to work at enhancing the site and tools on offer.
Here’s what’s included in this update:
Team and Player Heatmaps
As mentioned in our preview article, we’ve tried to go the extra mile with our heatmaps feature.
I always wanted to ensure that, when these were included in our members’ area, they would work with the ability to slice the Opta data by intervals – eg Gameweeks, matches, home and away etc.
Implemented in this way, they suddenly become more effective as a method of analysing player and team performance, not just in a single match, but in a group of fixtures or over the entire season.
So heatmaps can now be found in player and team profiles and in the player and team comparison tools.
You can also get them in the match dashboard, to view traditional team or single player maps for a particular fixture.
We’ve added maps for the following statistics:
Touches
Passes Received
Shots
Chances Created
Recoveries
Challenges Lost
Successful Take ons
Failed Take ons
Goal Attempts Conceded (teams only)
Chances Created Conceded (teams only)
Fouls Conceded (teams only)
Hazard vs Pedro – Touches – 2016/17 All Matches
The preview movie below shows the heatmaps in action and the options and possibilities available.

Bonus Points System additions
Having added the Baseline Bonus Points System statistics in Update Three, we’ve tweaked this further and implemented the statistics to both the player profiles and player comparison tools.
Baseline BPS is now included as a key statistic when comparing players.
Fantasy Goal Involvement
We’ve always included the goal involvement statistic.
This measured a player’s contribution in terms of goals scored or assisted as a percentage of his team’s goals scored when he was on the pitch.
We’ve now expanded this to offer a new statistic, which takes into account Fantasy assists. This is now found on the player statistic Involvement tables.
What’s coming next?
We’re looking to add Fantasy Premier League prices to our database in order to surface these in our profiles and player tables. The aim is to introduce the ability to filter tables by these prices.
We will then move to include Sky Sports prices in their tables and also build Yahoo Daily Fantasy tables, which will hopefully include player prices for the forthcoming contests.
Expected goals remains a background task as we continue to research and explore options for our model.
Once the season begins, we will also start to address improvements away from the Members’ area and, in particular, look at our HomeCrowd comments system.
You can see our current task list and track our progress through the next update via this roadmap.
You can also send your feedback and requests to me at mark@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk
